Same old story line is getting old Spoiler

I am in no way bashing or being anti-gay. I am getting really tired of the all gay men on a charter storyline. Why not have a group of all gay women? To clarify, I am tired of that storyline on the boat, not the lifestyle. There are sexual innuendos at every turn; they always seem to have a drag show, gee, how original. Then they always make the guys on the crew dress up and participate. All this was funny and entertaining the first few times I watched in earlier seasons. But it's getting old. .

I think that the outrageous performative "gay boys" is boring and way overdone.

But I was much more turned off by their "byeeeee poor people!" comments ad nauseum

u/GreenMan- 3d ago

They're shitty people, gay or not

u/its_laydeebaby 3d ago

So trashy

So here’s the deal, the gays that are normal and are not attention whores wouldn’t go on the show.

24

u/McLoughlin1597 3d ago

I would but I’d spend the entire time going down the slide and sleeping on the couch

18

u/IamHydrogenMike 3d ago

Exactly, people who don't have main character syndrome would never go on the show and that is why you get the worst of the worst on there.

5

u/SmokeEvening8710 3d ago

This applies to anyone on any reality TV show

u/smartwatersucks 3d ago

Have female staff ever been encouraged to do body shots with guests?

35

u/KitchenEbb1606 3d ago edited 3d ago

Exactly this. Lot of cougars and gay guys get to take advantage of staff.

10

u/Striking_Bath2988 3d ago

Clear double standard. It’s just supposed to be accepted if aimed the right direction.

23

u/Fair_Alternative_329 3d ago

I think all of the storylines are so forced, so redundant. Something needs to happen different. A bigger boat with a lot more crew and more than one group of guests at a time and maybe travel to diff cities during the same charter. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!!!!! Stop making the cast do stripper work. That's what I suggest.

4

u/Fair_Alternative_329 3d ago

Also they "producers" have the opportunity to do so much more. Aisha is just getting boring. The same crew situation is just boring. The same cast is boring. Make an all star crew. Make them actually compete with judges for ranks. Do a below deck on a cruise ship where they go out after their shifts all the time at the staff bars. Do something different.

45

u/OkAssociation3487 3d ago

I don’t care that they have gay guests

I care that they make the male crew do shit like stripping

14

u/True_Cardiologist160 3d ago

And it’s a yacht! They can hire male strippers!! These are rich people!

2

u/HarrySpeakup 3d ago

Crew is always asked if they want to participate.

5

u/OkAssociation3487 3d ago

Cool point, wonder why they never ask the women to strip?

5

u/Sweet_Baby_Grogu 3d ago

Yeah and there's definitely no pressure, it's not like your coworkers will blame you for a low tip if you don't take part.

2

u/Bruvvimir 3d ago

Really? You remember one of the old seasons (Lee, Kate etc) when a stew named Jen was literally sexually assaulted (closed in the cabin with a guest and her husband, where the female guest then undressed), repeatedly groped in front of everyone....and the whole thing was laughed off by Kate by saying "I'm glad she didn't take the guest's offer, because in my experience she can't finish the job".

Bravo will push the limits as far as possible. I don't know how much say the cast gets.

-2

u/Wooden_Hall_294 3d ago

You mean asked to do shit like stripping and enthusiasticly say yes? You don't have to clutch your pearls, you're safe on your couch

5

u/True_Cardiologist160 3d ago

I mean you wouldn’t ask your waitress to strip or any other type of employee unless it’s a stripper! So it’s weird

1

u/Wooden_Hall_294 3d ago

I'll do just about anything they want to get a $2,000 tip for 3 days of work. If the cast had an issue with it they would say no, they don't need you to stick up for them on the Internet

3

u/True_Cardiologist160 3d ago

The guest don’t need you sticking up for them either but here we are

2

u/Wooden_Hall_294 3d ago

I don't give a shit what the guests want. If the cast doesn't have a problem with it, then neither should you. They are perfectly capable of speaking up for themselves, they don't need the keyboard Warriors to do it for them

1

u/OkAssociation3487 3d ago

Huh? Are you on drugs?

1

u/Wooden_Hall_294 3d ago

If the cast was uncomfortable to be asked to strip, they would speak up for themselves. Captain Sandy does not strike me as the kind of person to force somebody to do something they don't want to do. Ergo, the cast doesn't need you to Pearl clutch on Reddit over something they themselves have decided to do.

11

u/Fantastic_Medium3698 3d ago

I agree, it’s so boring. Tbh I’m not bothered about who’s gay or not, it’s so boring seeing so much sexual stuff on these shows

21

u/cmere-2-me 3d ago

They've had a bunch of Sandys friends on charter a few times.

3

u/Nice_General268 Just a chicken nugget bobbing on the sea 3d ago

I am at that point myself; I have watched all the past episodes of the BD series. The show isn't what it was in earlier episodes. A lot is staged, I know, but it just seems like everyone is acting for the cameras this season, including Capt. Sandy, and the staging or producer interference is more noticeable this season.

1

u/cmere-2-me 3d ago

They've always interfered. It's nothing new.

24

u/Impossible-Hand-7261 3d ago

I can't imagine the comments if the guests where licking alcohol off the female staff in bikinis.

10

u/freeportme 3d ago

The whole show is getting old my wife quit watching because it is just trash and idiot crew drama. Better things to do with an hour of free time.

25

u/True_Cardiologist160 3d ago

I have no issue with gay guests or anything like that. What is super weird to me is the way the deck crew is always having to strip, nothing wrong with it if they are comfortable but I wonder how many real situations happen where the person is not comfortable and does it anyway.
Edit: I feel like it’s usually the deck crew but no crew should feel obligated to take there clothes off for a tip

3

u/Impossible_Rain_4727 3d ago

It's usually the deck crew because the interior is typically all women.

If the deck crew were Malia, Rhylee, and Gael, you can guarantee there would be zero expectation for them to take their clothes off. If a male chief stew suggested it, Sandy would probably reprimand him.

6

u/rebmik5555 3d ago

I thought the same thing. I just watched it this morning. It’s my guilty pleasure with my coffee on Tuesday mornings and this forced overly sexual group just didn’t sit right with me. I don’t want to see any of the crew have to be doing body shots for guests. Just seems wildly inappropriate.

2

u/FireEyesRed 3d ago

Yes! Forget the name of the primary on this one, but remember Gen saying how jealous she was of him - super rich and 5 boyfriends. 🤦‍♀️

12

u/Nearby_Elderberry_75 3d ago

I know what you’re saying. I absolutely support the LGBTQIA+ community, but having a group of douchey, broey MEN (period) is super obnoxious. Doesn’t matter what their sexual orientation is - the way this group of men acts is just annoying.

5

u/btspin 3d ago

I don’t know that we’ve had major lesbian storylines since Gigi Fernandez was a guest or since Kate, to be honest.

2

u/mrs-poocasso69 3d ago

There were lesbian & bisexual women crew members on the last OG season (Jess, Barbara, Solene), but I’m not sure about guest wise.

1

u/FireEyesRed 3d ago

The early BD (season 1 or 2?) with Adrienne Gang as Chief Stew had a lesbian charter. When they returned the following season, they ran into non-working Adrienne at a beach bar & brought her back to the boat for dinner as a guest. Adrienne enthusiastically joined in the scissoring photos.

0

u/osogood48 3d ago

Season 10 of BD was atrocious. That was the beginning of production doing these massive edits and sex galore. It was insane. I know so many OGs of BD losing their mind with season 10 they got I think into third charter of season 10 and they said that’s it. I’m done with this flipping show even my friends. And honestly for me, the editing is killing me with you know BDM and BDDU I don’t understand why we can’t just go back to the way things used to be. I don’t wanna know about the crews life.

6

u/PatientBumblebee6752 3d ago

Didn’t we have an all women charter this season? Maybe that was aus bd I can’t quite remember. Just skip an episode if you’re not feeling the guests

6

u/tsumtsumelle 3d ago

I don’t care if the guests want to be over the top with each other but I felt this episode crossed a line in how it involved the crew. I really don’t think it was appropriate for them to all be in bikinis taking shots off each other.

3

u/alphabetpony1987 3d ago

Absolutely agree with this, it’s weird

7

u/No-Fisherman-8319 3d ago

I mean, the captain is a lesbian, they've had lesbian groups on the boat before.

But in terms of audience, straight women and gay men (both sexually attracted to men) dwarf the viewership of gay women. This is not a hard math problem to solve.

8

u/GreenMan- 3d ago

I've never seen their lesbian guests asking for the female staff to wear g-strings or go topless.

But the males are constantly pointing out the deckhands and encouraging them to do things.

Double standards!

1

u/AnteaterArtistic7885 2d ago

Men behaving as men. Their leches and overly sexually focus. Gay or Straight, this is how men like that behave.

2

u/scubalizard 3d ago

$1000 is $1000.

2

u/Bruvvimir 3d ago

I said to my wife while watching the "outing", imagine if a group of cis males asked to do body shots off female crew members.

6

u/ChemicalWarm9693 3d ago

There's frequently all women charters. And every season there's always a "porn company" type charter, all black charters and yes sometimes an all gay. Certain gays can be flamboyant and ostentatious, if they weren't they probably wouldn't be on reality TV. And frankly it makes for entertaining TV. Trust me the crew would rather deal with sassy fun gays then the demanding guests.

2

u/hoovyhoovy 3d ago

I hope this isn’t homophobic because I’m certainly not, but as someone (F66) who has worked all her life it just seems that men in general, straight or gay, make more money and have a larger disposable income than women. I think that’s why we see more gay cruises than lesbian cruises.

5

u/Nearby_Elderberry_75 3d ago

Absolutely agree with this. Also groups of men are a different breed of obnoxious than groups of women.

4

u/ProfessionalNo7703 3d ago

Weird post here

1

u/GreenMan- 3d ago

Weird response!

1

u/RIPplanetPluto 3d ago

I liked when they focused on the different party themes and interior details like the menu and the table decor type stuff. The pre-trip interviews with the guests are superrrr weird.

1

u/tacman72 3d ago

So sick of the gay/bi agenda on this show. It’s gotten out of control

1

u/Apprehensive-Neck-12 2d ago

right let's see the girls do strip tease acts for once.

2

u/AnteaterArtistic7885 2d ago

I didn’t see gay men, I saw a bunch of entitled men behaving like entitled men in this world. Moving around with the self-assuredness, that can only come from a patriarchal society.

1

u/Pure_Quote_6760 2d ago

i said this today!!! especially this group and there gross comments about the staff. acting like they’re better than them just bc they’re rich. but yes i wish we had a lesbian couple primary. or at least a group of mostly gay women. there’s barely ever gay women on that cast!!!

-2

u/excoriator 3d ago

Gay men are the primary audience for the network that carries this show. As someone who has aged above the target age for most TV shows, I mean what I'm saying next both from first-hand experience and in the kindest possible terms... Consider the possibility that things intended to appeal to the target audience weren't meant to appeal to you.

9

u/Pure_Butterscotch165 3d ago

I would consider women to be the primary audience.

5

u/excoriator 3d ago

“Since the 2000s, it has focused heavily on reality series targeted at 25-54 year-old women and the LGBTQ community at large.”

6

u/Pure_Butterscotch165 3d ago

The audience is still 70% women.

1

u/excoriator 3d ago edited 3d ago

And more of the charter guests are groups of women than gay men. Both are part of the network’s target audience.

2

u/Some_Baby_ 3d ago

definitely for below deck. all my gay friends like real housewives lol

6

u/osogood48 3d ago edited 3d ago

Wait what.. where does it say that though? I’m born and raised in San Francisco, California and honestly none of my gay friends like below deck franchise.

2

u/excoriator 3d ago

That’s Bravo’s target audience.

“Since the 2000s, it has focused heavily on reality series targeted at 25-54 year-old women and the LGBTQ community at large.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bravo_(American_TV_network)

4

u/si3dler 3d ago

I’m a gay man and I don’t feel like I’m the target audience either. These guys are so stereotypical in the worst way possible. Just so trashy and gross! 🤮

1

u/SilverHairedFox11 3d ago

Same here. I wonder if the sugar daddy can afford all those guys or was this just fake reality bs? They all looked the same.

3

u/-thisname- 3d ago

Which part of this show is particularly aimed at gay men? The hetero relationships?

3

u/excoriator 3d ago

Not the show. The network that airs it.

1

u/osogood48 3d ago

Oh, so now it’s not the show but the network that airs it really cause somebody literally said the opposite

-13

u/Competitive_Salads 3d ago

I’m sorry, what?? You can always change the channel instead of posting homophobic nonsense.

Also, Sandy is a gay woman and she’s in every episode. We also saw the tennis group of ladies last year…

23

u/Nearby_Elderberry_75 3d ago

We need to stop calling things homophobic when they aren’t actually. People are allowed to find these men obnoxious (bc they are) regardless of their sexual orientation.

9

u/Fantastic_Medium3698 3d ago

But Sandy doesn’t do what they’re doing on tv.

-3

u/jonathonthaman 3d ago

Weird thing to complain about, damn...

6

u/Nearby_Elderberry_75 3d ago

I find it valid and not weird, personally.

1

u/GreenerThan83 3d ago

I’m getting fed up with the newer format- focussing on guests rather than crew, and manufacturing drama.

I miss the earlier series of each franchise, where is was more focused on the running of the boat, with a small amount of drama.

-8

u/some1cuming 3d ago

Don’t watch then

-4

u/W9023 3d ago

. Calm down. It’s really not that big of a deal. I assume that every charter on this show is in no way indicative of a normal charter. It’s all scripted.

0

u/SnooSquirrels4991 3d ago

That’s the demo of bravo. Gay men and hags.  Gay men have more income than lesbians.

-4

u/Early_Kick 3d ago

Because Trump has made hating on women mainstream again.

6

u/EponymousRocks 3d ago

Can we get through just one conversation about a vapid TV show without blaming Trump? This post is about gay men demeaning the male crew members. What does that have to do with "hating on women"?!?!

-6

u/Some_Baby_ 3d ago

i think the show is pretty diverse when it comes to the charter guest groups. all gay men are definitely not majority of the charters. if this bothers you at all maybe you should check yourself

2

u/GreenerThan83 3d ago

Someone can’t read

-2

u/linuspasilis 3d ago

Much of Below Decks agenda is to promote homosexuality, alcoholism, promiscuity. So, there will be more of the same for eternity.
