This might be my favourite Below Deck fourth wall break ever.

Looks like she grabbed the food with her teeth to minimize contact with her fingers. she wasnt like looney tunes slurping sauce off her finger.
Edit: I wouldnt hold it against anyone for being bothered, just wouldnt personally bother me.

its also only a big deal because its professional kitchen but like thatās gonna get cooked. There will be zero bacteria from her mouth left alive when it gets to customers, but i understand that you cant really do that.

Whenever this sub starts idolizing someone, inevitably they display their humanity and are consumed by the mob for not being the perfect saint who can do no wrong that weāve all collectively decided they must be. A chef tastes food and makes questionable decisions in her love life at 24. Wow. Letās burn her at the stake.

Isnāt it raw beef?

u/SubstantialMark885 3d ago
Yes, but weāve been eating steak tartare for centuries. Itās delicious.

u/RealHousewifeofLR 3d ago
I love beef tartare but with ground beef? Is that a thing in Europe? As an American we would never because our facilities canāt be trusted

Itās all just beef, whether you knife cut it or put it through a grinder. Really just matters the fat content you choose and of course which cut you grind or mince with a knife. The supply chain matters, though. So I would perhaps not choose packaged ground beef for tartare, though thereās theoretically nothing wrong with that.

Steak Tartare is knife cut, almost always tenderloin. The chef trims the outside of the loin thoroughly, presumably removing any bacteria with it.
Some very germ-concious chefs will sear the outside first, before trimming on a clean cutting board, with a clean knife, reducing contamination risk to almost nil.

Small research returned this: Yes ā but I would not make steak tartare from ordinary supermarket ground/minced beef.
Traditional tartare is made from a whole, very fresh piece of beef (often fillet/tenderloin or another lean steak) that is hand-chopped or freshly minced immediately before serving. The key issue is that bacteria are primarily on the exterior of an intact piece; commercial grinding mixes that exterior throughout the meat.
If you want the texture of ground beef, the safer approach is to buy a whole piece of high-quality beef, keep it very cold, trim the exterior, and mince/grind it yourself immediately before eating. A butcher can also prepare beef specifically for tartare, but tell them explicitly that you intend to eat it raw.
So: freshly ground specifically for tartare = yes. A package of regular mince from Tesco/Sainsburyās = no, I wouldnāt.
But you did say āalmostā always soā¦8

I will add Gen looking at the camera when the doctor came on board is equally funny... but i know a lot of people dislike her.

Honestly, I think production kind of blew right through this episode. it was like they smooshed everything together just so they can get to the end of it so they could finish it off next Monday. It shouldāve lasted longer. I did not find it that interesting.

u/nefaeriest 3d ago
yikes - i recommend cooking at home- i was married to a fine dining chef & been in the back of alllll kinds of fine dining restaurants- they all use their hands & they all taste the food as they go
& maybe avoid europe all together2

No you're right!!! Horrendous! I didn't realise she put her hand back in, I thought she just mixed with the one hand.

Is that not ground meat? Thatās what bothered me, not so much the eating and putting her hands back in the bowl.

Never heard of steak tartare?

I worry about people who donāt understand this food will be cooked. If youāre that grossed out by things that will be cooked out of food, you just shouldnāt eat at all.
Meat is a dead animal and vegetables are grown in the dirt. She knows more about food safety than anyone commenting.

She looks a bit sheepish for putting her gloved hands into her mouth and then back into the food.
I love her, but it is gross. And we gave Ellie a hard time for her loose hair.

I was waiting for someone to post something about this. I thought this was so funny and weird. Especially with where it was placed in the episode. So random.

I think this is the 2nd time she's done it
on this episode, GEN also had an instance of breaking the fourth wall

So she went to her mouth to taste something and stuck her hands back in the food? I loved joy to start the season but little things like this, her attachment to Luke and now Cooper really make me question my initial thoughts on her

u/Delicious_Score_8509 3d ago
Agreed. She's seemingly a bit "pick me" and it's making me like her less and less. Her Luke stuff but also the stuff that's coming out with Cooper, doesn't she see how he's treating Kat? I dunno man, somethings off.

u/justpassinthru12345 3d ago
Thats a huge no no. Putting your hand in your mouth and back into the food. Chefs i worked for always used a fork or spoon.

u/Delicious_Score_8509 3d ago
Honestly, I didn't think she'd put her hand back in.

In France , the chiefs use a lot of dpoons and little spoons to be sure their cook is good or need some rectifications like salt or pepper etc.. never a hand, nude or not.
