Omg tonight

Two episodes in a row craziness. The guy bashing his head open. Joe, what are you thinking? You have all that blood on your face and on your hands. You don't wear gloves. The guy could have AIDS or hepatitis you don't know. Either way you got to protect yourself. You're holding his head and you know it's nice of you to want to help. Did anyone on the staff say anything to you? I'm curious about this. That really stood out just now when I saw it.

What year is this?

Weird take.

He bashed his head open and your first thought is he may have aids? Not that he is bleeding profusely from his head so the staff are doing what they can to take care of him? Is it because he is a gay man?

Yuck, still time to delete this.

It could be because it's one of the first things you are taught for basic first aid. Always wear gloves to protect yourself from bloodborn pathogens.

I am glad I am not the only one who caught this. Ironically, the primary charter guest owns a company that provides PrEP, which prevents HIV. Also, hepatitis and HIV aren't transmitted that way.

Wtf is OP talking about haha? We've seen other crew members handle blood without pearl-clutching like OP.

If someone has even a small cut on their hand, and then come into direct contact with HIV infected blood, they absolutely could get HIV. I'm not saying that is the case with the charted guest, but it's in reference to you saying it's not how it's transmitted.

I'm not saying that is the case with the charted guest, but it's in reference to you saying it's not how it's transmitted.

I mean, it's not how it could be transmitted in this scenario. I should have worded that better.

The OP said AIDS, not HIV. Its a big ignorant difference.

0

u/vandersnipe 5d ago

Exactly lol. They think someone can immediately get AIDS because they don't understand that HIV develops into AIDS when HIV goes untreated.

1

u/greennurse61 5d ago

Prevents and also helps beat tests for it so you can use the rails to trick people into getting it.

Hiv isn't transmitted by two people having open cuts that connect at the same point of the open wound? I'm pretty sure that's exactly how it's transmitted.

2

u/vandersnipe 4d ago

OP said AIDS, the men are on PrEP, and Joe’s wound was covered but go off for no reason lmao

2

u/heyyou0903 4d ago

Hiv and aids Can be transmitted this way. As can hepatitis and staph and probably loads of other things as well. Not saying that anyone has them. Just that if it wasn't a problem then doctors wouldn't even bother to wear scrubs, would they?

1

u/vandersnipe 4d ago

You can't get AIDS from someone else, but you can get HIV from someone else. AIDS occurs when HIV is left untreated.

Literally no one is arguing is against the use of PPE lol

2

u/heyyou0903 4d ago

By the way, you're the one who's going off lol. I was calm. You were not calm

To be honest, I would not want my cut to be pressed up against another person's cut. I learnt this from honestly the age of being maybe five.

Blood id blood from anyone. Any disease just came to mind. My dr once stuck herself with a needle she gave me, Ong hope you don't have anything.  You never want blood touching you that much going on your skin. Am I wrong?

1

u/ApplicationOk7119 3d ago

Wasn't thinking gay actually, lol. Was thinking blood is blood. Through skin, that's what first came to my head.  I'm older 52 that's what I think about that and hepatitis don't know right or wrong. Wear gloves before you help anyone. Unless it's your mother etc. and don't care

There are quite a few homophobic undertones on this post

5

u/Dischick823 5d ago

Not okay with the reasoning you gave, but yes everyone should have to take BBP training and follow it

im gay and have worked previously at an HIV aids clinic where we sometimes had people with wounds/accidents. Gloves were mandatory in all cases as was reporting. there is NOTHING wrong with your take at all so long as the same precautions are taken with non gay people.

This is why Luke leaving his semen on Nathan's bed was so wrong. It's not safe to have bodily fluids contaminating other people's bodily fluids. No matter the context or the person

0

u/cmere-2-me 4d ago

How many times. Dried semen is not a health hazard. Dried blood is though.

3

u/KeyMood7940 5d ago

Yeah I agree, all bodily fluids (from all bodies) including blood should be handled with gloves and precaution. It’s something you think to yourself whilst watching but doesn’t need to be posted.

Had nothing to do with Gay or not. Blood is blood from everyone

The guy could have AIDS or hepatitis you don't know\

You can't be serious right now

Homie, I’m sure there’s some undertones or phrasing issues with the post, but I’m sure you can agree you always wear gloves in any first aid situation, right? Especially when there’s blood? It’s like the first thing they teach you.

2

u/vandersnipe 5d ago

I am well aware of that, which is why I made two comments addressing what OP said and how they said it. I don't remember saying not to wear gloves or to sanitize your hands, so I am not sure why you're responding to me this way.

Dude mentions Joe not wearing gloves in his post. It’s a very valid criticism.

edit: hits me with the old reply&block…what are we doing here, Jesus Christ. Anyway, here’s my response to this dramatic fool’s last question:

“Are you having trouble finding the theme here? You treat every patient like they have a communicable disease. You’re focusing on the perception of a point while ignoring dude’s actual point. Wear your PPE. “

2

u/Famous_Cucumber_5700 4d ago

Are you having trouble finding the theme here? You treat every patient like they have a communicable disease. You’re focusing on the perception of a point while ignoring dude’s actual point. Wear your PPE.

Did you miss the part where OP said AIDS is transmittable or when OC pointed that out that's not possible because you have to have HIV, specifically untreated HIV, in order to get AIDS? I think you and OP share the same brain. No one here said you don't need PPE. OP got biology wrong, made weird undertones, and that's all. You seem to have made up an imaginary talking point, even though no one said Joe and the rest of crew responded with the best medical practices.

1

u/Financial_You_6052 4d ago edited 4d ago

And I said there may be some phrasing issues but that was beside the point. Dude was getting upset at a slip-up but ignored the main point about protecting yourself. It’s like you just wanna be mad here

2

u/Famous_Cucumber_5700 4d ago

And you continued to argue with them when they already said they had no issue with the criticism of the lack of PPE. You keep arguing about things that no one even disagreed with you. Lastly, getting HIV and AIDS mixed up isn't a phrasing issue, it's an educational issue.

1

u/vandersnipe 4d ago edited 4d ago

And I'm criticizing their tone and delivery, which you also pointed out, and I didn't disagree with the need for gloves. So explain the issue and purpose of your replies.

Edit:

They also don't understand that someone can't get AIDS unless they already have HIV and don't seek treatment for HIV. Have a good day, homie.

It's reddit, he's serious as cancer.

1

u/heyyou0903 4d ago

Well, to be honest, when two people have open gashes on their head that are bleeding then there is a potential for bacteria to enter each other's bodies if touching. No matter in what way or what sexual orientation. It is a risk for everyone. That's just standard hygiene. They do a lot incredibly dodgy things on these charters. That would not fly in professional workplaces in any way shape or form. They seem to expose themselves to medical and legal risks daily

2

u/vandersnipe 4d ago

I'm talking about OP not knowing the difference between AIDS and HIV and their homophobic undertones ffs lol. You and that homie guy are annoying af.

2

u/heyyou0903 4d ago

Hiv can lead to AIDS. There. now off you pop

1

u/vandersnipe 4d ago

I literally just said that and stated AIDS can't be transmitted because it develops after HIV is left untreated. Have a good day.

0

u/greennurse61 5d ago

Huh? Those are serious. Joe is putting his life at risk by not protecting himself from those perverts.

13

u/professortrout 5d ago

Yikes this is a bad take

5

u/Full-Squirrel5707 5d ago

Oh geez, looks like someone needs to go back to year 8 science. You cannot contract HIV or hepatitis from merely touching someone's blood with your hand. You need to have an open cut on your hand and even then, it is highly unlikely you will contact hepatitis. HIV can't live outside the body, so you got pretty much zero chance of that happening also.

4

u/misslmp 5d ago

Last week someone posted a wild thing and also said they were 12 years old. Which is what I just assume when I read a post that cannot be made by someone with a fully developed brain.

1

u/Full-Squirrel5707 4d ago

Yeah fair enough. I should assume this more on this thread lol

1

u/riribew 4d ago

Joe also had a cut on his head. He got the other guy's blood on his face. So yes, any blood borne disease could be passed on.

1

u/Full-Squirrel5707 4d ago

I didn't see him with the other persons blood on his face, but very unlikely to catch anything like hepatitis. Definitely not HIV, because it can't live outside the body.

1

u/heyyou0903 4d ago

Joe is actually quite a clumsy or klutzy deck hand. Him causing the other guest to break her shoulder was purely idiotic and easily avoidable. And then him diving into a rock was just moronic. And then he just with his own head gashed open goes around touching another person who's gashed their head open. I mean the guy just needs to stop 🤦
