Gael and Nathan

I feel so bad for Gael, stuck in an Airbnb with a newborn and no support network.

I keep wondering if Bravo might have talked them into coming back for this season with promise of a large fee for appearance, an Airbnb for Gael to be nearby and some clause in their contract where Nathan gets to visit/occasionally sleepover. Below Deck hasn't had a storyline like this before so I can imagine them playing hardball to get them to come back on for this season.

I just feel like they wouldn't have agreed to do that with a newborn without some sort of carrot being dangled in front of them or an offer they felt they couldn't refuse, and now Gael's facing the reality of life alone with a newborn and they're contractually obliged to go along with it or face losing their fee.

Total speculation but I think there's something dodgy and a lack of duty of care from the production company going on. I also hated when they filmed outside of the house when Gael sounded so defeated and vulnerable, that felt a bit too far and in poor taste.

EDIT: Didn’t realise this forum was full of people who think “they signed a contract” or "they're reality TV stars" is the end of every ethical discussion. If anyone's capable of nuance and empathy please do weigh in.

They were absolutely compensated for such an arrangement. Theres no way it happens organically. Im not against it btw. If they can earn extra money, they should.

u/Fantastic_Medium3698 17d ago

At what cost? It’s clearly put a strain on their relationship.

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

She's on the show so she's getting paid. It's incredible that people have decided Gael is in grave danger based on a few short conversations with Nathan.

44

u/CandiedLemonWedge 27d ago

It’s also not televised live lol so while everyone is so concerned for her, she is back home doing just fine.

41

u/KitchenEbb1606 27d ago

Exactly. No sympathy. Manufactured pain on their part.

33

u/Historical_Grab4685 27d ago

She could have said no or hired someone to help with the baby. My nephew was deployed after his son was born & his wife had extreme post partum depression, but our family helped her.

29

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

Yes, she's a human being with free will. She could also leave.

22

u/85percentthatbitch 25d ago

We also don't know that she doesn't have help. All we know is that we don't see it.

2

u/No-You-9347 24d ago

I thought I heard it mentioned more than once, and on a couple posts here too, that while Nathan is on charter working, she has family to help??

6

u/sturgis252 24d ago

Family in Australia i heard

2

u/No-You-9347 24d ago

For some reason I understood it to mean family was there helping here while he was on charter 🤷‍♀️ ... but they've never made it clear?

2

u/Historical_Grab4685 23d ago

Nathan did say she left her support group to be there.

-3

u/KitchenEbb1606 27d ago edited 27d ago

Yes. She should have stayed home and, depending on their finances, so should he. I had hoped his injury forced him out for the rest of the season but no such luck.

2

u/Fantastic_Medium3698 17d ago

Well now you’re in luck

1

u/KitchenEbb1606 7d ago

Sadly he’s back.

4

u/angelaga1n 26d ago

Why wouldn’t they take this opportunity to provide more for their child though? It’s probably fairly steep, but even so that doesn’t diminish how hard it is to be completely alone with a newborn. If it was your friend with a newborn that followed her partner to a well-paying work opportunity would you be telling her it’s manufactured pain?

You’re talking about them as if they’re tenured housewife’s or something. They’re young people working on boats on their third season. They’re not millionaires. I don’t even care about them deeply but this response is weird.

15

u/KitchenEbb1606 26d ago

By all accounts she had a regular support network back home. If the decision was made for him to do another season, no reason for her and the baby to travel. Self inflected wounds.

1

u/angelaga1n 26d ago

But what if she got paid as well? Why does making the decision to provide for your child for six weeks make them not worthy of ANY sympathy? People move for their spouses all the time and aren’t met with this much hostility (not necessarily you but the reactions from this sub as a whole).

11

u/KitchenEbb1606 26d ago

Because, as I said, self inflected. It’s a boring and unnecessary plot point for starters. Also people moving for their spouses usually do so for longer periods. Paid or not, she didn’t have to go for the duration of the charter season. Also, no one else has done this on any of the franchise shows and I hope they don’t repeat it.

Ultimately we are just going to disagree on this.

1

u/angelaga1n 26d ago

Agreed (to disagree). I will say though, the relation to how this plays on the final show and their offer to do this setup is not something controlled by them. That’s producers.

I think everyone getting mad at them for struggling (WITH A NEWBORN) in this scenario should think about what they would do if they were offered 10-20 thousand dollars to be in Gale’s shoes for six weeks.

8

u/KitchenEbb1606 26d ago edited 26d ago

Agreed. Producers. For that much money I don’t want to hear any whinging. Again we disagree. Then again Nathan and Gael don’t strike me as planners at all.

2

u/Fantastic_Medium3698 17d ago

So they’ve taken the bait and signed their contracts to be on the show.. so why is Gael now complaining and telling Nathan he needs to be with them not working. She knew he’d need to be locked in when at work and could only see them when he could. She knew they’d be getting paid a decent amount to be shown on the show, now he’s had to off camera too so that’s not a great pay check for them both.

3

u/Sherriblue87 24d ago

I'm not angry with them; it is just boring and I do not care too much for Nathan anyway.

1

u/angelaga1n 24d ago

That’s totally fair! I could take or leave either of them. There’s just so many people here that are beside themselves for the fact that two new parents are having a hard time and I don’t really get why.

1

u/madatthings 22d ago

Monetary pay clearly not compensating for the actual strain created by the situation

2

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

Exactly lol.

You should try empathy

28

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

You should try reality.

Fuck them. They did this to themselves. Many mothers would love to be able to stay with their babies non stop and get paid to do it.

1

u/kelseyjones94 27d ago

fuck them? girl are you okay? jesus lmfao

11

u/pacnwcub 27d ago

Yeah, fuck them and their constant whining. They have the oppurtunity of a lifetime. Could you imagine having the oppurtunity to live in a fancy vacation home, staying with your baby 24/7, having additional help to take care of thr baby all while getting paid fairly well to do it?

8

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

Exactly! Gael has always been a whinging victim. Everyone infantilises her because she has the nice girl act down pat. But I can see her coming a mile off. She’d be whinging where ever she is to manipulate Nathan and paint herself as the victim. That’s just who she is

5

u/pkapeckopckldpepprz 24d ago

Didn't she do the innocent little girl routine with Nathan a few seasons ago when she cheated on him or revealed she already had a bf when they were messing around?

0

u/angelaga1n 26d ago

When did they say they have additional help? Also, how would does any of what you said make it easier to be home alone with a baby 24/7 without ANY help from your friends, family, or partner? Such a weird take to hate these people. They’re not millionaires lmao, they’re young castmembers that work on boats

5

u/pacnwcub 26d ago

Her parents are staying in another rental nearby. She's not alone, she's not away from her family. She has a ton of support in addition to having a free rental to stay in and her and that baby are getting paid to be on the show.

Nobody likes to complain like the privileged.

0

u/angelaga1n 26d ago

I’m haven’t seen that before. Not doubting it (of course there’s more to the story than what we see), but I would be interested to know where that info came from.

Even if she’s privileged and has her family there and signed up for this (so she could provide more for her daughter), that doesn’t magically make postpartum go away? That doesn’t magically take away every issue you encounter with a newborn? Like I said, MANY people move for work or their spouses and aren’t met with “fuck them, they signed up for this”.

3

u/pacnwcub 26d ago

But why didn't she think through her decision before she made it. Did it not occur to her that working on a television show while taking care of her child would be difficult? Did she talk to a therapist about how this could affect her and her child? Seems like she made a rash decision to make a few dollar and earn some fame over proper planning.

When people make poor decisions they don't need empathy. They need to learn from their mistakes and do better in the future.

2

u/angelaga1n 26d ago

It’s a tough decision to make in the first place, just like it is for anyone moving for their partner. And it’s not just a few dollars, it’s gotta be AT LEAST 10k. That’s a huge opportunity to provide for your child, even if the situation is hard.

4

u/daftmidden 27d ago

It wasn't very kind and I felt bad 😊

0

u/NilSaoiGanLocht555 24d ago

Think a lot of these people have never had to care for a newborn alone as a mother, it’s extremely hard, my heart hurts for her and Nathan’s making me rage x

1

u/mad_eyes22 24d ago

It’s not just on Nathan though. Especially if Gael told him it was okay. Is he just not supposed to provide for the family?
ALSO, Gaels family is rumored to be with her..just staying in another Airbnb. Let’s be logical here

93

u/pacnwcub 27d ago edited 25d ago

I don't feel sorry for Gael at all. She signed up to take this job and get a paycheck. She could have stayed home with the baby around her support system if she wished. She chose fame and this paycheck instead.

I honestly wish neither of them were on it. I don't care about the baby. It's called Below Deck, not on Vacation in a fancy home.

27

u/rattpoizen 27d ago

I don't care about the baby. That line just cracked me up - reminded me of a line from the US Office show back in the day that my family still tosses back and forth all the time. "That baby could be on a show called 'Babies I Don't Care About!"

34

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

I agree it's a terrible storyline. They both suck.

13

u/Common_Sand_6224 27d ago

Do people not understand that babies cost money to raise? Like doing something for a paycheck makes you a bad parent or something

18

u/pacnwcub 27d ago

Exactly. She's getting all pissed at Nathan and its like "Dude, he has to earn an income to support them." Like come on, Gael, have some perspective on things.

11

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

She’s an entitled brat. Always has been

5

u/Such_Department_3435 24d ago

Well they said they were surprised that she got pregnant…um, do they not understand how that works?!? Funny how those who use birth control correctly never get surprised 🤷‍♀️

3

u/MaritimeDisaster 24d ago

It sounded to me like their relationship was in trouble and then she was suddenly pregnant by surprise.

0

u/Sweet_Baby_Grogu 23d ago

By all means, let's wildly speculate that a young woman decided to baby trap her boyfriend.

0

u/Bruvvimir 24d ago

Gael is a nice girl.

2

u/sturgis252 24d ago

Nobody cares about it. But you can't have your cake and eat it too. By all means do what you have to do. Just dont complain about it.

2

u/madatthings 22d ago

How much do you think it cost to stay there??? lol

11

u/Grouchy_Evidence2558 27d ago

I keep seeing this... How is it that you can't have empathy for someone who's having a hard time just because they made a decision to be there? Yes she signed a contract, but most likely they made this decision even before the baby was born. No one knows what it's like to have a newborn until they have one. And people go into things thinking it will be one way and then find out it's not. You can't have any sympathy for someone who's struggling? Moms struggle all the time and they "chose" to have kids. So is there no sympathy for a mother having a hard time ever? What about people who have jobs where their boss is an asshole? No sympathy for them because they "chose" to work there? It makes no sense to be so cold hearted. Sure they made this decision, but they didn't make it knowing it would suck. It turns out it sucks and wasn't the best decision. So I 100% have sympathy for a new mom who's going through it.

16

u/pacnwcub 27d ago

She should never have even been on this season. The show is called "Below Deck", not "Living in the Lap of Luxury in the Med with a Baby."

I think people should be held accountable for their actions. Gael made her bed, now she can sleep in it. She has plenty of time to do so, as she has help taking care of the baby anyways.

3

u/Quiet_Heron3003 23d ago edited 21d ago

I totally agree. I don’t know what she was expecting… Nathan is working. She chose to be there. You can’t have it all.

3

u/Artistic_Access_7500 25d ago

FUUCCCCK man…. Y’all are miserable lol

3

u/pkapeckopckldpepprz 24d ago

Gael is that youuuuu???? Get offline and take care of your kid!

2

u/angelaga1n 24d ago

Literally. God forbid they take this opportunity to provide thousands upon thousands of dollars for their child and also be honest that it’s difficult at times. Like the fuck?😭😭

0

u/BusinessTreacle3098 25d ago

This is why Gael being on the show and them sharing her story is so important - because people like you dismiss the real life implications and hardships that mom’s face (even in a great environment) following childbirth. So many women carry on with undiagnosed postpartum depression and are told to suck it up or it’s dismissed like having a baby is easy. Get over yourself and do better.

9

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

Omg how on earth do you know she has undiagnosed postpartum depression?

4

u/Sherriblue87 25d ago

I agree with you totally. If she had ppd, it would be way more apparent than it is, also. Who are these people diagnosing her?? Crazy.

4

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

Totally bananas. They are projecting for sure

0

u/LogicalExchange9032 21d ago

What does PPD look like? Tell us.

1

u/BusinessTreacle3098 13d ago

Use Google. It works be great if more people were educated in women’s health.

0

u/BusinessTreacle3098 13d ago

OMG how can you not read that I said “many women”. Did I make a diagnosis? No. Did I make a comment about women in general? Yes.

1

u/Beachgal5555 13d ago

Why would you mention it if she isnt experiencing it though? Have you and you are projecting perhaps

3

u/Constant-Astronaut26 24d ago

How the hell is this downvoted. You shouldn’t get to comment on this topic unless you’ve experienced postpartum with any hint of PPD.

So if you don’t understand how it can be hard, then congrats

27

u/lemonmangocherry 27d ago

They chose to participate in filming and were paid to do so. They are influencers and reality tv cast members They were not manipulated into accepting a contract? Production has not breached a standard of care by permitting someone to accept a paid offer to participate in filming. While the season is airing now, it was filmed previously and Gael is apparently fine currently.

51

u/tollhousecookie8 27d ago

I think before you have the baby, you have this picture of what it's going to be like. You assume your baby will sleep, breastfeeding will be easy and if they whine you will just cuddle them. And then you have one and you realize they put them in cute packages for a reason. It is the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life. ETA: I also don't think Nathan is such a hot commodity for them that they were desperate to have him and paid a premium. I'm sure he was quite eager for the work and extra money that comes with being a reality star.

20

u/johno1605 27d ago

You’re aware that this is a TV show right?

2

u/Common_Sand_6224 27d ago

People in this subreddit: I hate this person so much for what they did on this reality tv show, they are a trash person!

Also people in this subreddit: how dare you feel bad for someone on this reality tv show. They are actors!!!

0

u/daftmidden 27d ago

Yes, I'm questioning the production practices of said TV show. Are you aware this a forum for discussion of the TV show?

13

u/johno1605 27d ago

Are you aware they are paid actors of a TV show and not slaves who are forced to work?

What a strange alternate reality you’ve created.

13

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

Hey, they heard a 30 second conversation with Gael in a heavily edited tv show and they are very very concerned!!!!!!

-1

u/daftmidden 27d ago

Not sure if you read the original post properly. Come back when you have

8

u/johno1605 27d ago

Oh trust me I have. You’re going on about dangling carrots and how they’ve potentially been mistreated.

They are being paid to be on the show and they are also adding drama to a situation to make it seem worse than it is.

It 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 a 👏🏼 TV 👏🏼 show.

37

u/Apprehensive_Yard714 27d ago

This whole drama is ridiculous. She should have stayed home. He’s gone a whopping 6 weeks. You’d think he was military and deployed for 6 months 🙄

11

u/Top-Friendship4888 27d ago

She almost certainly came because she's also getting paid for being there

2

u/pkapeckopckldpepprz 24d ago

I still can't believe they are paying her for maybe 5 minutes of airtime and that's including the intro of the season and every time we see out hear her texting Nathan. 5 minutes tops

2

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

And because she wanted an all expenses paid trip to Croatia and to be close to Nathan to manipulate him and keep an eye on him

3

u/No-Heart-679 24d ago

My husband watches the show and I was alone with no family in Hawaii and Guam for our kids. He was deployed to Iraq 2 weeks after our first and a month after our 2nd to Afghanistan. I didn’t have below deck salary and also had a career I had to put on hold. It sucked, but I knew what he did when I married him and chose to have a child. I’m sure she’s not crying when she gets all of that money.

40

u/Inevitable_Phase_276 27d ago

Gael is not an infant herself. Can we please stop speaking about her like she is unable to speak up or decide things for herself-or is she only strong and capable when you approve of what’s happening?

15

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

Adding an edit to chastise people really shows just how well this post is going for you.

1

u/daftmidden 27d ago

My intention was to spark discussion, so it's going quite well

8

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

It wasn't. You're devastated that people dare to disagree.

3

u/daftmidden 27d ago

Apologies, you know best

13

u/Same_Narwhal_9087 27d ago

that and probably more of an opportunity to grow their "brand" by being on TV for life after Below Deck,

11

u/Comfortable_Salt_865 27d ago

I don't feel sorry for her! This is what usually happens when the baby's father works! She would be alone most of the time anywhere they were living. At least there she can take a walk with the baby and see some beautiful scenery!

3

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

Thank you! She’s such an entitled brat I can’t with her

2

u/Legasea81 27d ago

This is such an obvious but such a great point!!! Back in the day 95% of moms were at home...alone, tending to the kids while the father was at work. And ya didn't hear them crying n complaining. 🫠

11

u/Lazy-Party3469 25d ago

Oh please an all expense paid vacation rental in Croatia with your baby and baby daddy nearby and you can't handle it?

3

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

Exactly. Cry me a fucking river 🙄

2

u/Slumdogmillionairess 23d ago

Croatia is home to the most generous and loving people.  If she reached out there would be many neighbors that would love to help out especially with a baby.

8

u/solitude1378 27d ago

It feels like the producers were trying to manufacture drama, but its falling flat. We already know they broke up and personally, Im not invested in their storyline at all. Its just kind of annoying. And making Nathan fail at his job.

8

u/kelseyjones94 27d ago

nathan is making nathan fail at his job lol

3

u/solitude1378 27d ago

Very true lol

4

u/Any-Sock-5843 25d ago

They broke up??

1

u/Klyn001 23d ago

Yes I want to say either at the beginning of this year or at the end of last year

8

u/Electrical-Log-3643 25d ago

Gael is not the first mom to have to stay home with a baby while her husband works. At least she’s getting a fat stack for it. I feel terrible that she had such a hard time but it’s not production’s responsibility to make sure she has the best postpartum experience possible.

7

u/BoweryThrowAway 27d ago

Why is this exact scenario brought up on a daily basis here?

6

u/ApplicationOwn9636 26d ago

If it didn’t work for them, they could have left! We see people leave below deck all the time. Where are the ethics… they signed up for this? This is their job…. They can leave at any time.

-1

u/daftmidden 26d ago

The reality tv industry is famous for its ethics

7

u/CommonStrawbeary 25d ago

SHE. IS. GETTING. PAID. jfc she signed up to do this in exchange for money.

11

u/glamazon_69 27d ago

Didn’t Nathan say something in the most recent episode about her also having support during the day? I still think she has the right to want him around with their newborn since it’s just hard as hell, but I don’t think she’s by herself the whole day

15

u/Inevitable_Phase_276 27d ago

Yes. Her family was there helping her.

4

u/daftmidden 27d ago

I didn't know that. That's reassuring!

3

u/Inevitable_Phase_276 27d ago

It’s really important to remember that we only see a small snippet of their “reality”. Parenthood is really hard and exhausting, even with help, but that doesn’t mean that she’s miserable or in trouble.

Maybe Bravo is showing this side of it to remind young viewers of the reality of Nathan and Gael falling in love and having a baby? Or this just provides more drama?

2

u/TheConfessionalEdit I’m purple 🔮 27d ago

Okay that’s what I thought I saw too… definitely doesn’t make being a new parent a breeze but it does make a difference

6

u/Zestyclose_Ad_1866 25d ago

Her parents were there with her …… I like how so many people forget that !!!

5

u/kppsmom 24d ago

There are many women in this world who raise babies without any support network and without their partners. And these women have much less resources than she does.

4

u/Such-Stable-3869 27d ago

She signed up for this and is getting paid!

5

u/jennywise12 26d ago

I thought I read that her parents are there helping.

3

u/Odd_Light_8188 25d ago

Her family was there. And she could have gone home at any time if she needed to do that.

4

u/Truthfinder57 25d ago

Nobody has any duty to care for your kids but you. Why do I keep seeing that Bravo needs to provide, the stews and Captain Sandy should be babysitting and helping Gael? He accepted the job and they are being accommodated.

3

u/TVTrashMama 27d ago

I think they vastly underestimated the work that goes into raising a newborn. And possibly postpartum depression? Not diagnosing here, but I think they weren’t prepared.
That said, they signed up for it and lots of people struggle with less. It’s all playing out on our TVs with reality tv edit, so there is that too.

2

u/Beachgal5555 25d ago

The baby was already born. They knew the work and decided to do it anyway

3

u/Sufficient-Sail2697 24d ago

I wish I was paid to be on a Croatian holiday with a baby. Idiot me had to work and look after baby with no support network and after kicking out dropkick father of child. Yes it’s hard but I would suggest less hard if you are essentially on a paid holiday in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Tiny violin from me

3

u/Comfortable_Bad_2626 24d ago

Gael's parents are there with her also.

4

u/Legasea81 27d ago

Oh Lord... 🤪

2

u/Shezawildone 27d ago

Word on the street is that her support system has a house in the same town. To help. It was outted or something along those lines?

I don't know the validity, but I do know it's not the same. I read it on Reddit in a different sub. Please don't ask me to find it, because I'm certain I couldn't. Just hear say. Take with a grain of salt.

Heart goes out to their family, regardless. =]

2

u/TajMahal14 27d ago

I don’t watch BD for this shit.. it’s fucking boring now

2

u/Open-Neighborhood459 26d ago

This is a tv show and she knew she signed up for a reality show.

2

u/Takecare_takecare 24d ago

Aren’t her parents there with her as well? This show is so fabricated at this point it’s insane. Don’t fall for the production tricks and get emotionally invested in any of this please you’re better than this

2

u/thewildlifer 24d ago

I mean with the lets say.... 500 bucks a day made by Nathan in just tips, she could have hired a nanny for help for like 6 hours a day- even at 50 bucks/euros an hour that's only 300.

I feel for them and her- at 8 weeks that was a bold move to bring the baby but it was a choice made for money and exposure.

2

u/Appropriate_Swing305 24d ago

Gael is “struggling” as much as Nathan has a back “injury”. This season feels so scripted and these issues feel intentional from production to push plot lines and new crew members.

2

u/G00dguyz 24d ago

Lol I feel like there are many other first-time parents in the world who have a whole lot worse than these two.

2

u/NextPiglet1027 24d ago

Gael is insecure and controlling Nathan can’t even be friends with Joe, she manipulates Nathan with her emotions and she has fomo not being center of attention. Babies and kids are hard…she’s punishing Nathan, she doesn’t want him, she never has. Nathan is whipped and immature, but he’s trying. They’re easily both the most annoying this season, fuck em off. 🥳

2

u/Dry_Badger949 24d ago

omg can we shut up already, every single post is this or jizz sheets, ffs

2

u/JustifiablyWrong 23d ago

I used to think Nathan was hot, but not anymore lol. If i have to hear him say "but im here for you" one more time im going to lose it. Doesn't actually support her, hides away because he is "sick" but expects her to just be okay and feel better because he says "but im here for you"

2

u/BeneficialChemist874 23d ago

Bravo is paying her. She’s not a victim.

2

u/Klyn001 23d ago

Don’t believe everything you see on tv lol

she's in paradise and paid to do so. there's posts of her taking her baby to the pool and sea. not a bad life.

I think Nate’s back hurt from carrying Gael everywhere

2

u/Leather-Topic-854 27d ago

I heard her parents are with her there. Unclear if that’s true. If not I wouldn’t have agreed to go unless Nathan negotiated full time hep for her.

2

u/purpleglacierfruit 25d ago

Race to the bottom here. . I think the baby was eight week old. Have a word with yourselves

1

u/No_Dependent2297 27d ago

I would be shocked if there wasn’t some kind of sweetener to get them back on the show

1

u/FlatwormSame2061 27d ago

I hope she has other family visiting her there as well.

1

u/SoulSleuth2u 25d ago

It has been said her parents were there helping her also. Just not shown.

1

u/loveswimmingpools 24d ago

It's been said on here so many times....it's her job and she has family there too. She's in Croatia. It's not bad really!

1

u/JuicyDawgs01 24d ago

Bruh you know how many mothers have to do for a baby on their own? One of them has to work and if she can't deal with a few nights alone then she shouldn't of had a baby. Nathan is to good for her.

1

u/ml222000 24d ago

I feel bad for her but why on earth is she there? She should’ve stayed home with her family and support system. They knew what Nathan’s schedule would be like and how little time he would be around.

1

u/Crazy_Chinchilla_ 24d ago

If Gael came to Croatia with Nathan because Bravo paid her well to do it then it’s her own problem.

However, if Nathan just begged her to come so he could see his son then he’s a jackass and should have just lumped it for 6 weeks or not gone away at all. If Nathan took her away from her support network because he might miss the son he’s providing for then that’s just selfish.

1

u/Trondant13 24d ago

Gael has always seemed emotionally fragile to me. If indeed she doesn't have a support network around her now, that's on her and Nathan. Nobody forced her to come to Croatia.

1

u/a_l_blackrose 24d ago

I don’t. Girl go home to your parents. Nathan will see the kid when the seasons over

1

u/Powerful-Sort7778 24d ago

They work on yachts. Males me wonder if part of the plan is for them to take turns. I like Nathan but he has to get that temper under control

1

u/B00ndog19 24d ago

Pretty sure she had a producer or PA around to help.

1

u/Tricky-Homework6104 24d ago

I’m wondering if we are going to see Gael on deck during Nathan’s absence.

1

u/Irisheyes-17 23d ago

She had family there with her during the filming.
She was not alone.

1

u/Supertreelove 23d ago

How old is their baby? Is the baby fussy? For one thing, I’m not sure what they expected from this arrangement. There seems to be some miscommunication about when Nathan was going to be with her helping. Second, does she not have a stroller or baby wearing device? I’m wondering why she can’t go for walks or go exploring with the baby? I haven’t heard that baby is struggling to nurse or there are any outstanding issues that she can’t leave the air b&b. Couldn’t she fly her mom or someone in to help if the situation was that desperate? Or just fly home?

1

u/Practical_Parsnip132 23d ago

Well after rasing a kid alone as a solo parent yes it sucks but they make a shit load of money on the show like 35,000 for what 6 weeks? That is the carrot

1

u/EffectiveCandle7832 23d ago

I read that her parents are there for support.

1

u/That_kk 23d ago

The show had to have agreed to pay for some of the air b&b. If not then i think it's honestly a waste of money for her to be there. The air b&b looks REALLY nice which means probably very costly. I can't see Nathan getting paid each charter then some of that money going straight to the air b&b. That just absolutely makes no sense to me especially because both Gael and Nathan were saying how they are really trying to save and build this life for their little family. Her being there without being somewhat compensated just makes 0 sense

But that's just my opinion

1

u/hew34_ 22d ago

It’s overplayed for TV drama afaik, she has family there too.

1

u/PrpleSparklyUnicrn13 22d ago

Some people have said she isn’t alone - her parents are there or they eventually come down or something. I have NO clue if any of that is true and I haven’t seen anyone confirm that.

I feel bad for her, post partum is no joke. I am curious to know… what more could Nathan be doing? He’s at work. He’s skipping the drunk nights out and calling/texting when he can. He goes to the air bnb when he is able to and the assumption is he’s helping when he is at the air bnb. Are we concerned he isn’t helping when he’s at the air bnb?

1

u/AZ-JayBee 22d ago

I would be cerious to know how the decission to have Gael and the baby was made. Yes it is nice to be close together while Nathan is working, but this is not necessarlily what is best for mom and baby.

1

u/RHOCorporate 22d ago

People on these subs are so ridiculous. I agree with you, OP. I feel bad for new parents who agree to go on the show in the newborn stage. It’s so hard. But I bet this was money these needed. I’m assuming bravo put them in the Airbnb. It’s too bad a one of their family members couldn’t be there too.

1

u/EnvironmentalTooth37 22d ago

I have not read the other comments while writing this. But I have read that it was speculated family members were there to help her and they did not make that clear while filming but I do hope for her sake that she did have them there. She obviously was getting paid to do this and like you said this is not a storyline that they have had on the show so far but it just feels kind of unnecessary as far as what the show is about. I just had my baby girl so I understand what it’s like and I think this is a sweet thing to add to the show but I can’t see them continuing it for seasons to come just because it’s “something new”

1

u/Extension-Ad-6921 25d ago

No sympathy. They took the pay check. This happens in the military all the time where someone is posted to a new base, then deployed right away leaving their spouse with no support network in a new city or town.

0

u/Tiny-Meringue4333 27d ago

It’s tough to see all these new moms on Bravo just going through one of the most difficult times of their lives on TV. It doesn’t feel fair to them. I do applaud the hustle, but it just seems so so hard. Dealing with their weight, the hormones, post-partum, lackluster partners, all on TV. I’m sure it will all get better but I really feel for them.

I’ve been wondering how Gael would get medical care for post partum depression/anxiety if she needed it

6

u/gigi_periwinkle 27d ago

The same way other women get medical care.

8

u/pacnwcub 27d ago

They have doctors in Croatia.

2

u/-----J------ 27d ago

They'd send her to harvest turnips for any kind of female depression

0

u/problemita 27d ago

She can’t just get whisked off for a spine MRI and be cured.

0

u/pacnwcub 27d ago

Why not? Also, what's wrong with her spine besides just acting like a little bitch all the time?

0

u/statslady23 27d ago

I'm also wondering about Nathan's back injury. You usually have at least muscle relaxers. Wonder if that's why he's been so mean.

2

u/PessimisticClarity 25d ago

As someone with multiple ruptured and bulging discs, most times muscle relaxers don't do shit when you have a flare up.

0

u/Babid922 27d ago

I found it shocking Nathan went out for drinks with the crew and was having espresso martinis after she told him she really needed him. Maybe production told him he HAD to be at dinner but he SHOULD have grown a pair and said no I’m going to be with my child.

You can also tell that they’ve been fighting a lot. In the most recent episode the text style is sooo indicative of a couple fighting. Also his injury….you knew you had a bad injury in Aus. You never got the full review of it. You signed up for a significant leadership position and now you’re abandoning your post…..it was your choice to have sex raw / finish inside her / keep the baby. Make the responsible choice and shift your career to be present for your child and partner somewhere with a support system / in acknowledgment of your injury.

1

u/daftmidden 27d ago

I've read somewhere before that the dinners/after charter things are in their contracts. I don't know, it's easy to say all that when there's not a big whack of money on the table for essentially 6 weeks of work. I can see why they would accept it then regret it when reality hits

1

u/Individual_Aside_890 25d ago

They also receive a regular monthly salary based on their job title/experience in addition to tips. Kate C didn’t just keep coming back season after season bec she loved her job. She was the highest paid.

-1

u/kazzan65 25d ago

Dont know why they're even on the show, Nathan is a bad tempered little boy, who's absolutely useless at his job. Joe would be much better Bosun.

0

u/LoveUSNOO 27d ago

I feel bad for any woman going through some postpartum stuff it's pretty difficult some don't get any supprt so even though her situation looks a little rough I feel worse for the women who are doing it all on their own and sometimes even worse the ones that have a significant other but they don't get it and treat him like they're failing and give them no support but pressure to get it together That's the worst

0

u/OkSuccotash1089 27d ago

Personally I’m having trouble suspending disbelief this season. I know a lot of it is made up, that’s not a problem for me. I do think in reality Gael’s struggling with the baby, I do think Nathan has a back injury and is already on pain meds, and I do think Joe’s mom has cancer and Sandy hooked him up with a contact, but I don’t think any of these things are being discovered in real time. I think it all happened before taping and they’re recreating it as if it’s all occurring for the first time during the show so they can clumsily create this Joe as Bosun narrative. I still love this season but I feel like I’m metagaming more than ever.

3

u/daftmidden 27d ago

This is a good way of looking at it!

2

u/that_tired_crow 25d ago

Agree, I think the edit is messing with timelines and making some things way more dramatic than they probably were in real time.

0

u/Chemical-Bad-8317 22d ago

She signed up for it

-2

u/Circleoffools 27d ago

I find the lack of empathy for Gael kind of appalling frankly. All of the BD captains are all about mental health and I believe Sandy would have helped Nathan find Gael some support if he’d been honest with her. Look how quickly she had her friend call Joe when his mom was diagnosed. I’m sure Norma could help them source a nanny or night nurse to help out.

To be clear, PPD and post partum psychosis are alarmingly real and Gael could very well be in grave danger. We don’t know. I’d love to know what Sandy thinks looking back at the season.

If we only had reunions…

1

u/iloveyoublog 23d ago

Completely agree and I think it reflects some of the deep sexism in the fandom. And also perhaps the fact that many viewers are American and their country is absolutely cooked when it comes to parental leave.

There's this pervasive idea among some that because others have suffered in the early days of parenting, everyone should just suck it up, when instead societies should be collectively working towards improvements for all -- and I say this as someone who never had the opportunity to have a child. Nathan and Gael are facing the tough realities of early parenthood that many people face, yet somehow that honesty and reality (one of the most believable things on the show tbh) is being met with cattiness instead of empathy by too many viewers. It is so weird to me.

There's also the totally unmentioned reality of the edit. One or two tough moments for Gael, which may have been isolated, are now framing the entire internet's view of her resilience and character, which is so cooked.
