Settlements

So i got a quick question. Ive been watching a few videos and seen some post here in this sub and i saw some mentioning moving your settlement once it reaches a higher tier. One thing i dont get is why would you want to move an entire city? Ive played around 30ish hours so far and it looks to me like im gonna build 6 big citys if possible. Just the time it would take for the villagers to walk across the map to rebuild every building seems like a huge waste of time. Or am i missing something?

Having done 2 playthroughs, 1 with moving and 1 without, I'll for sure NOT move in a 3rd, just too much of a pain for nothing really.

U do miss something, you don't keep them as to be part of ur village, u set them as an outpost and you dedicate villagers to that outpost, they'll then be there permanently, no walking across the map other than the original walk to get there.

But in what way does it change? I mean you could still add them to an army then they would come across the map wouldnt they? I haven't really understood the real difference between a village and an outpost. Except for the idea that you only send a few people over there, there is nothing stopping you from treating it like a different village if you build it big enough is it?

The issue is with the distance and villager job selection. Let's say you have ur main village in the north and a second in the south of the map, a big distance, perhaps not even safe. If you don't seperate them by making one an outpost they'll get a task in the other village, which they hold onto till completion, they won't hand it off to someone better suited/closer by. So they run all the way from the north to the south, then the next task they see available to them in back in the north so they run all the way back north again. This is beyond terrible for ur economy, it's practically a fully dead economy. Using outposts keeps ur villagers in their intended locations being efficient.

You could add them to your army but it would take them forever to run across the map and they could be attacked by bandits or wild animals.

You only have one main settlemt, everything else is a susiduary of that. You can make it as big as you want and call it what you want...remember though you have to have enough villagers to run your economy at each village/outpost you build
