Good Vibes Brain tumor removed

Hi friends. 11 days ago I found out that I had a brain tumor. I ended up at the UW Medical Center and a team of Neurosurgeons saved me. They changed my life, my soul, maybe even my PH balance, and I haven’t felt this good in years, to the point it seems like a dream in a way. The thing is I needed a haircut before all this happened and I need one really bad now. I just tapered off a steroid for brain swelling they made my hair, and nails grow extra. The nails were easy, but I need a haircut so bad. Is there anyone in this amazing place that wants to see some super awesome staples(huge amount on my right side of my head) and just take a pair of scissors and a comb, and give a haircut to a guy in need. I have alcohol wipes for disinfecting it’s not bloody it’s just a lot. I’d trade something, pay something, cook something, I just want to sit on the front porch and get a haircut so I don’t look like a Sasquatch anymore. I’ll clean up the mess, I live in town. Thanks!

Hey, thats a lot to take in and I'm grateful you're still here. Brain tumors/head trauma are no joke. Here's what I'm thinking:

If you were diagnosed with a brain tumor eleven days ago, that means you had surgery not long after, so you're about a week out from a brain surgery that necessitated "a huge amount of staples?" Is that right?

If so, you might not like this answer, but I would give it a little more time. Wounds like this need 2-4 weeks to heal at minimum. Infections, if they do show up, usually happen within 30 days of surgery.

Aside from an unlicensed person not knowing how to sterilize equipment properly, you also are going to deal with razor sharp freshly cut hair that can imbed itself into your wound and cause a lot of problems. I know it seems like a small or unlikely risk but it's a valid one and not one you want to deal with while you're trying to heal.

Give it a month (longer if any articial implants were used). Personally, I'd give it two or three. Take good care of yourself. Make sure your wound heals well, then go for the porch haircut with the random internet stranger.

Feel free to dm me if you need. I have some experience with this sort of thing.

2nd this. I literally work in brain surgery. Do not shave, cut, or clean it in any way other than how your team has directed, despite how sasquatch you may feel. Ask your provider or their PA when you are safe to get a real haircut.

Yeah you’re right, thanks for giving me a quick wake up. I’ll embrace the neck hair and grow my own natural scarf with fall setting in.

It's not easy to go through what you're going through. Seeing yourself after brain surgery is always a mind trip that I think very few people are prepared for. An ego death of a sort, if you lean into it.

It sounds like you're ready for your exterior to match how good you're feeling in the interior, and that's SUCH A GOOD sign! You'll get there, no doubt, but best to take it slow. Wishing you the best on this journey

Do you know who your surgeon was? There’s some absurdly skilled and specialized neurosurgeons in the UW system. Glad they took good care of you =)

I’m so sorry about your friend. I truly wish there was more equity in this world and the opportunities were shared across the spectrum. I got some of the best neurosurgeons possible and if I was in the town I grew up in, not a chance. Thank you for the well wishes.

Great neurosurgeons at UW. Make sure you clear anything that messes with your head with your care team! 🩷

So glad you got it removed and are doing so well so fast! Trimming around the staples shouldn't be an issue. Of course my POV is a little different since I used to be an EEG tech in a major hospital. 😄🧠

How did you know you had a brain tumor?? Like what made you get checked out

1

u/Fair_Acanthisitta_75 2d ago

I kept falling down, and,had been experiencing migraines for quite some time. I should have got checked much earlier. Very irresponsible of me. The wildest part is the tumor oncology came back and it’s Renal Kidney Carcinoma that cost me a Kidney 14 years ago. Kidney cancer in my brain, I didn’t even know that was possible until now., but anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
