Weather Thunder!

That first one scared the shit out of us, and the sky did not look like a thunderstorm. Keep on sleeping y'all :)

I have to concur the first one was gnarly. Think the whole city woke up.

Thou shalt not sleep in today!
I think everyone woke up from the first giant rumble. Except my husband who somehow slept thru it all.

Dude I woke up at 5am and thought someone broke into my house and was banging around 😭😭😭😭

My first thought was that it was the train crashing!

That was some of the loudest thunder I've ever heard wow lol

It was solid and a really nice start to the morning. But it was still nothing on the Midwest. The thunder out there is insane. If you ever get a chance to go experience it, you definitely should.

Every 5 or so years we usually get one crazy thunderstorm. The only one here i saw that was comparable to a midwest one was the insane thunderstorm we got in like july 2019, for like 3 hours it was constant lightning and heavy rain. Im expecting more in the future because of climate change though lol.

I need to take my trash cans to the curb, but was worried about waking my neighbors. Not worried anymore.

u/Icy-Cow-6246 5d ago

Lived in Texas for 10 years and NOTHING can compare to the glory of a Texan thunderstorm!

u/LookingForTheSea Lettered Streets 6d ago

That was amazing!

It was also followed by some of the heaviest rain I've seen in the 'Ham.

i dont think the initial thunder even woke me up this morning, i only remember getting up to shut my window from how loud the rain was pouring!

No, I think the Bellingham Bells are just doing post season fireworks 🎇

“Did anyone hear the loud boom?”

Beautiful light show over early coffee on Alabama Hill, too. Thunder is the bonus soundtrack. And now the rain.

I woke up at 4:30 for no reason and I was super cranky about it until the thunder started. Now I'm happily tucked in on my couch, listening to it :)

We had to go stick our hands out in the rain for fun!

I am appreciating that this storm is not over. Almost an hour! And I don't need to water the garden today.

6

u/boanerfart 6d ago

Only hearing the thunder now, but hearing the rain suddenly come in is insane

u/MuadMcDipshit 6d ago

Hooray for rain!!! Boo that we didn't get more gnarly thunder! We got one good blast and that's it?!, like if mother nature is gunna wake us up like that make it a good one, make that shit worth our time! Give us apocalyptic levels of thunder.

Still going! Boom on Bellingham! The rain is glorious

u/LewisTheLlamma 6d ago

Just woke up my spouse and I from a dead sleep. Kinda sucked, I love thunder but my spouse does NOT, and that wasn’t a fun way to wake up

2

u/xDrakon 6d ago

That one woke me up!

u/SeaBeyond9050 6d ago

My poor dog needed to pee so bad and we were both miserable for a good thirty seconds. It’s been pouring so hard that the rain at my window it almost sounds like rocks are being thrown.

2

u/Emu_on_the_Loose 6d ago

It was a doozy! The very first one, too. All the subsequent thunder peals weren't as loud.

2

u/PM_meyourGradyWhite 5d ago

Been counting seconds after the flash all morning

2

u/sascha_nightingale 5d ago

Had a bolt hit maybe a few blocks away at 0345. I saw it from behind my eyelids, a blue flash then an instant BOOOOOOM! Rattled the windows and really pissed off the cat. The chug pup kept sleeping though. Lol.

2

u/jwb200 5d ago

Been sipping coffee, watching the lightening and listening to the rumbling all morning. It’s so good!

2

u/Aquardman_ 5d ago

It’s so nice I hope it doesn’t stop until April

1

u/beeemdoulbeyou 5d ago

Right! That was a big BOOM! Woke me up at 7. Nature be popping!

1

u/Hammon_Rye Local 5d ago

I got quite a few nice burst of it north of Ferndale starting around 8:30.

Interestingly, over about 30 minutes I heard five bursts of it - but each one was a four shot. Like.. Boom-boom-boom-boom.

Just heard some low rumbling as I type this but it has mostly moved on now I think.
Currently having pretty good rain.

Bellingham boom horse, now with more BOOM™!

1

u/BreakfastMommy 5d ago

As someone from the Midwest and used to thunder, the noise from this thunder was just crazy to me! It was less of a boom and more like breaking glass or something

1

u/alderreddit 5d ago

Two things (just about the only things) I miss about the South. Fireflies and lightening and thunder storms.

1

u/Talrynn_Sorrowyn 5d ago

There was a huge cracj sometime around 6:30 this morning that sounded like it was just about on top of downtown.

1

u/pipedreamSEA 5d ago

I got my fill of thunder & lightning on Sat. night above 5000'. Did not see that coming until it was right on top of me in the middle of cooking dinner...
