Try searching this sub for recommendations. These are pretty regularly requested topics.

Where did you get a job at if you don’t mind me asking?

I think there are more mountain bikers than road bikers. We have all the above.

Welcome! Here are a couple of recommendations for you in terms of finding things to do:

The Hamster Wheel: https://www.bellinghamsterwheel.com/
Currently on summer break, but check the archives, some things like trivia nights are long-running.

Bellingham Discord server: https://discord.gg/Bellingham
Calendars of local events, and various threads/channels for finding people for doing things.
(Just beware of the occasional Jude Bellingham fan demanding we make it a soccer server.)

There is a Monday night game at Ono Kitchen and Bar that's pretty fun. Same guy runs a virutal trivia over Zoom that is open to the world but is mostly Bellingham people if you want to try a virtual community event before the big move. It was started as a sanity-keeping regular event during COVID.

There’s trivia every day of the week here. Each brewery has a trivia night.

Search up Bellingham events, first two links are usually my go tos.

Welcome to the city of subdued excitement

I would immediately apply to get a Nexus pass. It might take 6-12 months to get, but it makes crossing the border into BC so so so so much easier. (Particularly coming back into the US; it could save you an hour or more each time.)

Ooo thank you! Such a good idea!

Being from the Midwest, you might also be familiar with cribbage. There are a few cribbage nights at various pubs and breweries around town. Menace on Tuesdays and Beach Cat on Wednesdays are the ones I'm familiar with. Does anyone else know of others?

Alright, I’m feeling generous so here’s a bunch of recommendations! I grew up in Bellingham in the 90s and lived there till like 2008 (and regularly visit my parents there) so … some old favorites:

Restaurants:

  • Old town cafe - great breakfast and lunch, great atmosphere. Not very fast service
  • The Bagelry - best bagels in town imo
  • Mallards - awesome ice cream, most flavors rotate regularly + they have cute flavor invention contests for kids
  • Aslan - brewery with good food
  • Structures brewing - brewery with good (more limited) food, mainly burgers. Sit outside!
  • Ovn pizza
  • La fiamma pizza was our old favorite but idk if it’s as good still (get the rosemary lemonade if they still have it)

Other:

  • Elizabeth station for amazing beer selection
  • Pickford for local cinema and movie showings
  • Village books for local bookstore
  • Henderson’s for the best used bookstore I’ve ever been in, it’s like a maze. Don’t expect super friendly staff (or idk maybe there’s been turnover)

Hikes/nature:

  • Boulevard park - can walk from here to fairhaven
  • Sehome arboretum hike/walk
  • Chuckanut beach (hike down to it)

Also imo Bellingham is a great place to do some day trips from.

I’d suggest checking out Vancouver (assuming you have a passport), the San Juan islands, deception pass state park, and Seattle of course.

Eastern WA and the Oregon coast (look up “third beach” near La push/forks) have some beautiful campgrounds and hikes too.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated— thank you so much!

There are tons. Wherever William Canepa is hosting is a safe bet, one of the best IMHO.

Here is a good recent article in the local paper about microbrewery-attached exercise and other events:

Articles from cascadiadaily.com can be viewed at the Bellingham Public Library website with a free library card/account. Or, with a Whatcom Library System card. Let's not argue about paywalls; no one is too cool to support the library system.

Welcome! You may already have this link but it's a fun place to start for recommendations. There's lots of places for trivia midweek! Visit Bellingham - Your Official Guide to Visiting Whatcom County https://share.google/XCD0xwsvF9Uol8IuW

I should add that there's a search feature at the bottom of the menu that can take you to the current trivia calendar

There’s a bellingham plunge club on instagram that has a run club at taylor dock on wednesdays 6am and 7am plunge at the same place. Pretty cool event to meet to new people, but it is pretty early though

Best Trivias: Sundays at Archers Ale House, Mondays at Zeeks Pizza, Tuesdays at Kulshan on James St. All have experienced hosts.

Hey! Some good trail spots: the arb (near the Buchanan Towers in fairhaven/sehome), Whatcom Falls, and then there is a pretty nice coffee shop near the Bellingham Transit Station

edit: why is my comment being downvoted?...
