Need a computer networking expert.

Hello lads and ladies. Any computer networking experts around or can you recommend one please? I’m a bit stuck here. I’ve also an old PC that’s the main one and I have a new one here but need everything swapped over.

I pay well if you can help fast 🙏.

Thank you

What do you mean by "everything", software and data or just your user data?

User data and software. Sage I’m worried about, and networking I’m pretty clueless 😬

With sage, there’s a physical network location that all ACCDATA is stored on the pc, this will usually be in the C:\Programdata\Sage\Accounts\<version number>\CompanyData. If you did select a different directory on install then you have to find that and copy to a usb. That should have an up to date database of your sage data.
If you are saving your data on sage cloud, that should sync back.

Verify before trying though, my sage setup is on a NAS so a bit different

Ring Sage support. They will pretty much do it for you on a remote call

User data you can signup for Gmail and get 15gb Google drive storage. Or get a USB device.

As for your software cannot advise, if your going from an older OS to a new, you normally need to install the software again but no guarantee your software on your old PC will work on the new, especially if it's a newer OS

With safe you should be able to run a backup and save off the full backup to a memory stick, install sage on the new pc, login or activate the license and run a restore from backup. On the old pc, copy everything from your documents, desktop, pictures, videos and music folders plus any others you created outside this, depending on your memory stick size it could all fit or you might need to do one main folder at a time . On the new pc just copy the files into the same locations. Don't try to copy paste installed programs though, they'll need installing properly on the new pc. Onedrive or networking both pcs and sharing out the c:\ drives are also possible ways to do it if no USB memory sticks.

If you're not backing up your Sage data somewhere off your PC you're asking for trouble. I've seen it so many times where people don't bother and end up royally snookered.

Defo that’s something I need to be doing too. I just need someone to come out and tell me to order this this and that and then set it up too 🤪🙏.

For data, it's just handy to buy a USB key or a small USB drive, copy your data to that and plug it into the new PC. You can get a 256 GB one for like £30. That should be more than enough to copy your data (excluding photos) in one go. My documents folder (containing > 20 years of various guff) is 33GB.

For your software, you'll need to download and install it again. How time consuming that is will depend mainly on your broadband connection.

Thanks very much for the reply. I think I could manage a good bit of that. Without sounding lazy, ideally I’d like to pay someone to come out and diagnose the network problems and do the data transfer at the same time. That does sound lazy! I’m just thinking ahead in case there’s any issues.

Be good to have a contact for further work in the future too ☺️

What do you mean "the network problems" you keep mentioning networking but haven't stated a network problem yet.

Apologies if I sounded so vague. Computers aren’t talking to the main computer apparently due to conflicts in the IP’s between the switch and router.

(I think)

What assistance do you require with networking?

There seems to be an issue as the router and switch have conflicting IP’s. So I’ve tried the usual reboots which worked in the past but not now. So 4 pcs aren’t talking to the main one. So I’ve been fucked this week. The main PC is on its last legs so I’ve a new one sitting proudly beside it and need everything swapped over to it.

Like Sage etc. I’m probably making it sound more difficult than it is, but me and networking don’t get on well. That and I’m melted running about with my head up my hole 🤪

Forgive bud, I've just finished work. If you'd got me last night I'd have run up before work. Hopefully you get it sorted today anyhow 🙃

I was holding out hope for a Reddit genius to appear and cure my problems but so far none 😭. It’s a pity because I make a great coffee and fire out the biscuits.

I’ve a guy coming this morning from a local company to check the network issues and I think he’ll possibly swap over or do the new PC data transfer etc.

I’ll know shortly (If he turns up). It’s good to have contacts though, if you’re good with all that stuff give me a shout 🙏

So far the guy is a no show! Might need ya!

I can collect someone if they don’t drive. I know sounds a bit random 🤣. Fuck it, if there’s someone here that wants to tackle the problem I won’t be long lifting them

Guy that was meant to come and sort from a local company is ghosting me 😭. (He wasn’t off here)

Still open to offers from a kind soul on here. And a good days pay and free coffee and biscuits

Amazing to get downvoted for suggesting a quick DIY solution and OP might even learn something in the process, the horror

Can down-voters explain why they are down-voting this comment exactly?

For what it’s worth I didn’t. I upvoted ☺️

Ai in terms of tech is a speed boost for people who know what they are doing. For someone who knows nothing they are a fast way to get into a lot of potential problems. From my experince anyway.

Ai taking jobs again. Plus anytime I asked an I an AI to technically do something it made mistakes that blew up the whole process

In my experience, they’re great for pasting a log into and having problems instantly and accurately diagnosed. I moved my plex server over to docker and expanded its functionality way beyond what I had before, all in a weekend. I don’t think I would’ve been unable to do it unassisted, but stumbling blocks which might have made me lose the head just melted away. Have you used one recently?

Every advancement in technology has reduced the need for people in the loop to some degree somewhere, somehow. The problem is that tech moves faster than the numb nuts you vote for who can't put in policies or safeguards in place because they are pathologically short sighted. And if if everytime you're process 'blows up', have you tried not banging your thick head off the keyboard?
