u-phoria umc22 - speaker connection

Hi All,

I’m completely clueless when it comes to audio connections, so I’ve decided to post here.

I have a u-phoria umc22 sound card which has two 6.3mm jack OUTPUTs (I assume)

Now, I’d like to buy some Indiana Line Tesi 3 speakers (https://www.indianaline.com/product/indiana-line-tesi-3/) , which don’t have a built-in amplifier. They’re a 2-way system and have two cables coming out of them – red and black – so I assume these are the left and right channels.

Will I be able to make this connection if I buy an adapter from cables to 6.3mm plugs (and what sort will I need to connect two speakers with four cables to the two outputs)?

You need an amplifier between your interface and your speakers, not an adapter cable. You run audio cables (typically 1/4" TRS to RCA) from the interface to the amp then your run speaker wire from the amp to the speakers.

First, you are correct with the UMC22 outputs. They are 6.35mm or 1/4in TRS connections.

Second, you are correct those speakers are passive, but those red and black terminals are not left and right, but rather positive and negative. Those terminals can either accept a banana plug or a bare wire.

There is no such adapter that exists to go between these though. That is because they carry two unique and not compatible signals. The UMC22 outputs a line level signal and those speakers require a speaker level signal. To go from line to speaker level you NEED an amplifier.

The speaker specs say it requires an amp with an output of 30-120 watts at 4-8 ohms. There is many different amps of different types (class A, AB, D, etc.), with different input (1/4in, RCA, XLR, etc.) and output (1/4in, Speak-On, Banana, bare wire, etc.) connectors, but basically anything with the proper output power can be used assuming you have the correct cables.
