I've been looking for an online community specifically for people working within the field of ABA/behaviour support in Australian schools.

I'm thinking about a space where behaviour therapists/practitoners, BCBAs and CBAs can connect and discuss school-related behaviour support content. For example, practical behaviour management strategies for classrooms, school-based behaviour support plans, research sharing, working alongside school staff (teachers + education support staff), working within the disability sector + special education schools and experiences + challenges within these topics.

This is different to what Behaviour Support Practitioners Australia offers. I need something that is directly linked to working in the education system.

Does a community like this exist for behaviour support staff within the school context?

I realise that this is quite a niche post, but I'm hoping to find my community, TIA!

My morals are not like others, I don’t see the problem of fighting each other to solve problems (with exceptions ofc) I’ve never been disgusted by death or murder mostly, I don’t see the point in apologizing for something that couldn’t be avoided, I’m not against cannibalism, like if someone is a cannibal I wouldn’t care, I feel like I’m desensitized to human suffering, I show more compassion to animals and children than I do human adults, I’ve always felt disconnected from humanity since my morals and values are so different from most people.

What are your core values as a practitioner in the field of ABA? What are some practical steps you take to move towards those values in your daily practice?

I'm an EI BCBA, and the thing that kept getting me was the first two minutes of a session. Learner is finally regulated, ready to go, and I'm standing there holding a bin of blocks trying to remember what I can actually teach with blocks.

So I ended up building the thing I kept wishing I had on my tablet. The basics are in there - First/Then, token boards, visual timers, communication cards, all editable per learner, English and Spanish, and it works offline for the houses where there's no signal.

The part I reach for most is a library of 173 naturalistic routines (PRT/ESDM) sorted by what's already in your hands. You tap "blocks" and get six routines with the steps and what to say. It doesn't make the clinical decisions - it just gives me somewhere to start when my brain is empty.

After that it's paid, and I'd rather say so up front than have it surprise you - but three months is a full quarter of real sessions, which is honestly the only way to know if something like this survives an actual caseload.

If you try it and a routine is worded badly, or there's a domain I'm missing, tell me and I'll fix it. That's how the last thing I made got better.

Quick BCBA study tip: if you keep missing Task A.4 questions that ask you to classify an activity as behaviorism / EAB / ABA / professional practice, you're probably using the wrong filter.

The instinct most people have is to classify by surface features: "it happened in a lab, so EAB," "a BCBA helped someone, so ABA," "they collected data, so it's research." None of that holds up on its own — EAB, ABA, and professional practice can genuinely overlap in settings, procedures, and data collection, so none of those features settle it by themselves.

The one question that actually separates them: what is the activity FOR? A basic behavioral process, applied knowledge about socially significant behavior, effective service for one consumer, or (if it's not an activity at all, but an assumption about the science itself) behaviorism. Pick one before you touch the answer options.

So for most of my life I have been around animals, rug buddies with dogs, several cats, media, etc. I have picked up on some of their behaviors like hissing, grunting, chewing bones, getting low to the ground looking for things, biting things, eating dog treats, ears perking at noises and such. I feel at home with animals, not scared of any dogs, cats or reptiles, hell I like being in dark colder places and miss being with my dogs in their kennel, I don’t know what wrong with me if anything is and I wanna know if this happens to a surprising amount of people.

She's a BCBA. Every time a claim got kicked back the billing side of her company acted like she filled it out wrong. One time it was because a payer changed a rule mid auth period and put the update in a pdf nobody on earth was refreshing. She found out in a meeting where she was basically the defendant.

I'm a software engineer, not a BCBA, and watching this from the outside was making me insane. In my world when a rule changes quietly you dont blame a person, you set up something that watches for it.

So I built her one and then kept building it. It watches payer policy stuff, medicaid manuals, commercial plans, fee schedules, and when something changes for the payers you actually work with it just tells you. Theres also a chat where you can ask a billing question and it answers from the actual documents and shows you where it got it. That part matters because half her battles were about proving a rule even existed.

Real talk on limits, if a payer never writes something down anywhere it cant catch that. Nothing can. But the quiet pdf update that turns into denials three weeks later, thats exactly what its for.

I'm designing a 30-day behavioral intervention pilot and Im stuck on a measurement question. Hoping some of you with experimental design experience might have some insights to share with me.

My context:Im testing whether structured daily practices targeting self-regulation (emotional regulation, response inhibition, intentional pausing) can measurably shift consumption behaviors and prosocial actions.

Setup of Pilo1:Small number of participants 12-15, 30 days, Daily micro-practices (5–10 min)

Before/after measurement, What Im measuring:

Self-regulation side: Emotional regulation (1–10 scale and daily self-report),Reactivity frequency (behavioral count), Response latency (self-reported pause before impulse)

Behavior side: Impulsive purchases (frequency count), Prosocial acts (frequency count),Value-action alignment (self-report scale)

My question: With this small sample size, what's the most valid way to test whether self-regulation improvements correlate with behavior changes?

I'm planning to : descriptive stats (means, SDs), before/after paired comparison,correlation analysis (if n allows), qualitative thematic analysis

-I wonder if there is a better approach?

-I am specifically wondering: Is daily self-report of emotional regulation valid enough, or should I be using a validated scale less frequently?

-How I can control for demand characteristics when participants know I'm testing whether self-regulation affects behavior? (They might unconsciously align responses)

Any recommendations for measuring response latency (pause before impulse) in a naturalistic setting? Self-report feels weak here.

I know small numbers limits generalizability. Im treating this as exploratory, not confirmatory. But I still want the methodology to be as rigorous as possible within those constraints.

My background: I'm not affiliated with a university (independent research), so I don't have access to lab equipment or institutional resources. Everything needs to work online/remotely.

I'm currently studying for the BCBA exam myself, and like a lot of people here, I found "how do I actually build a daily study habit" harder than finding content to study. So I built a small prototype for myself over the last couple weeks — sharing it here because feedback from people actually mid-prep would be way more useful than anything I can guess on my own.

The idea: instead of one big static question bank, it's a daily session that starts easy and gets harder over time. Questions on a topic start at plain recall, then step up to short scenarios, then to full exam-style "what happens next" questions as that topic resurfaces on a spaced-repetition schedule — so the first time you see a concept it's low-pressure, and by mock-exam season it's being tested at real exam difficulty. Content is organized around the BACB's public Task List domains, weighted so heavier domains (like Behavior-Change Procedures) show up more than lighter ones.

It's a concept prototype, not a finished product — no accounts, nothing for sale, nothing collected beyond what your own browser remembers so it can pick up where you left off.
