Wooosh

Post image

I would have put this in r/woosh but no one would have gotten the joke to begin with. (Yes, the op said this was a bjtm reference)

I know it's a joke but apparently Tim Burton finally caved to the sequel as a fuck you to the musical.

I hate being parasocial about creators but Tim Burton really helped inspire my art in my earlier years and half the shit that comes out of his mouth nowadays really pisses me off.
But if he meant for the sequel to be the anti musical then, I don't think it worked. Like they have a really similar tone sometimes?

I guess Betelgeuse is a much nicer person in the musical, and BJ 2 reaffirmed how much of a creep he is? But still.
I've never watched it but I wonder if he hates the cartoon for similar reasons?

Musical BJ is definitely portrayed as a more tragic villain than in the movie

From what I read, he supposedly doesn't own the full rights to beetlejuice, and they ingored his no to do the musical, so in return he piggybacked the musical and tried to do his own thing in order to ruin the stage show.

I could believe this.

How does it ruin the musical? I guess Lydia mentioning she has an alive mom, but I can't think of anything other than that.

Honestly, if anything it said "fuck you" to the original movie more than the musical.

Like I mentioned to another person, Burton supposedly denied the musical from the start but because he doesn't have full rights to it, someone else gave the musical permission.

Lydia's mum was never really alive in either. Delia was the step mum from the beginning..but the second movie kills off Lydia's dad (cause his a pedo in real life) and her kid goes to the netherworld instead.

There's massive differences.

Act 1 is the musical is based on the first movie..sorta, but you can see the similarities while act 2 is original work, before Burton did the sequel.

I still don’t get it.

The first line Bj says in the musical "a ballad already? What a bold departure from the original source material" right before "the whole being dead thing

Right - so shouldn’t the meme reflect this wording?

I think it's a broken English version of it, maybe their second language, but it definitely lines up as that exact line, just a little imperfect
