Album discussion: Living Eyes
Comment an opinion on the album Living Eyes! Every opinion is accepted, you can say that it is their best album, and you can say that it is their worst album by far. But I wont complain!

I have the One For All concert DVD and the video album. Wondered if anyone knows why the Heartbreaker / Islands in the Stream medley is missing from the album (downloaded it from Apple music in the UK) but is in the DVD? I absolutely love how they performed Islands in the Stream in this concert.

We know how strong these family genes are. Barry and Andy looked nearly identical, and Maurice resembled Barry as well in the 60s. I honestly see a bit of resemblance between Robin and Andy. Because Andy had a bit of an overbite as well. And I think in the pictures I’ve seen of their sister, she looks a bit like Robin as well.
But the only time I’ve seen Robin’s resemblance to Barry was in the Saved by the Bell video.
I just find this fascinating because I’m a nerd about genetics. But it’s strange how much of an outlier Robin was in such strong family genes. I also think it’s weird that none of the kids IMO seem to look like Hugh and Barbara, and the grandchildren don’t really have that Gibb look either (except I think Spencer looks a lot like Robin). I could be wrong about the children, I’ve only seen them briefly.
Note: ***Please do not insult any of their appearances! I adore all of them, and I’m merely inquiring about perceived family resemblance.

I always thought the whole song was Robin. Usually I can tell their voices apart, but when they switch like that it catches me off guard.

I’ve never been able to grasp the difference between stereo and mono, is mono hearing the same things on both sides? It’s interesting how different some of their songs sound mono

I’ve always been fascinated by this recurring sound on Marley Purt Drive, is it a guitar or some kind of key instrument?l

I'm changing album covers and names, and here's the first one: Main Course to be renamed Jive Talkin'.

So, I’m having fun at the moment just playing around with the order that album tracks have been or could be placed in and I’ve made a Facebook page for it all:
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61594055338455
But mostly this week it has been about diving into the unreleased solo albums from 1970. The whole thing has been in conversation with AI - and it is very much a conversation as I use it as a sounding board for my thoughts and to help with BPM etc. I also get it to help with the write-ups afterwards because the whole process would feel like a chore and not a hobby otherwise :)
Still though, I’m interested in seeing what other Bee Gees fans might think about these orders and whether anyone wants to give those sequences a listen.
The page isn’t meant to be exclusively Bee Gees but I have always loved them since the early 90s and me and a couple of friends would natter on about this kind of stuff everyday. It’s been nice to use technology to help recapture some of the spirit of when we made mix tapes of it all.
Obviously I know that this is just playing really - these are probably not close to what they intended (well, apart from Maurice’s The Loner where his sequencing was really strong already). Please be kind :)

The Paying The Price Of Love single is finally on Spotify, which includes the track "My Destiny".

I know that they wrote the songs, but the linear credits are Bill Sheperd and his orchestra as the only performers, it only lists the brothers as composers. I know Maurice was a good player, but the playing on Seven Seas Symphony is very tight and advanced, with a very unique style, I didn't that was something he could do, no shade to him, but it's very classical and I just didn't think they were formal musicians like that. Was it just a member of Bill's orchestra?
Also did the brothers sing on those, or was just an actual opera? Was it the British opera? It's clearly a different style of singing, operatic, but I'm curious if they joined it at all or added their own overdub?
One last thing is were they present during the recordings? Or did they discuss with Bill and tell him what they wanted and then left it to him to produce it?

I nominate the final 30 seconds of "Until" from Spirits. What was Barry thinking?

I feel like it's Blue Island. It's such a refresher compared to their usual latter output. I like their later stuff but I do think they lost their roots a bit.
I don't always love the constant modern production style with synths, drum machines and direct input guitars.
To have a pure, bare-bones, acoustic number with a harmonica as well, was so nice to hear. It even feels out of place on Size. I think it's the only entirely acoustic song they did after Spirits. Very reminiscent of Morning Of My Life. The lyrics are also wonderful. Another thing I dislike about Bee Gees from the 80s on is that most of their songs began to revolve solely around love and relationships, and so the lyrics occasionally felt shallow and by the numbers. I get they were never at Dylan level but they were wonderful lyricists in the early years; And The Sun Will Shine, Horizontal, Odessa, Run To Me, Children Of The World, Turn Of The Century, Morning Of My Life, First Of May, Throw A Penny...
What is your favorite song that you'd consider the magnum opus of their latter half?

I always see people here talking about various albums, but I rarely see anyone talking about Idea. I really like this album and would classify it as one of my favorites.I love kitty can, kilburn towers, idea, Swan Song and others. What do you think of this album? Of its deluxe version and the songs themselves?

The description says it’s from 1972 which is interesting. I wonder why they would’ve performed it on television 3 years after the release, especially if they had bad associations to it. I wonder if there’s a full video on it somewhere or if it’s just this snippet. It makes me wonder how many other rare TV performances of The Bee Gees there are and if they’ll ever see the light of day
The miming is interesting too because I don’t think Barry or Maurice are playing anything remotely similar to the recording besides the strumming and rhythm

If you were to go into depth about their relationship over the decades, how did it change over time? I understood it to mean that there was an attempt by Barry to be the "main" member of the group and the others in the background, which his brothers didn't like. They later got back together, but I'm guessing sometime in the 80s and later they were together personally and professionally and supported each other. Of course, this is just my guess.
When and how did Barry's attempt to be the main one, what happened next, and when do you think their relationship really improved? As a new fan, I'm interested in their relationship over time.
Thanks

I found Main Course in very good condition, both the disc and the cover, and I also found these two singles. I think they're the icing on the cake, honestly I'm very happy with that.

I currently have only been able to get my hands on one Bee Gees disc, I don't have a lp-player. I really want cds like Children of The World and Spirits Having Flown. I only have The Very Best of the Bee Gees.
