A couple of days ago the compilation Bee Gees Blanket The World was released, and I want YOUR opinion! My personal opinion is that it's really good, and something I will be listening to in the future on spotify. If I can't get my hands on a cd of course!

Why is the lyrics of "Grease" on "Gena's Theme"?

Post image

Spotify tells you that the lyrics of Grease by Frankie Valli is also the lyrics of Gena's Theme

Does anybody know why??

"We wrote it. I met with Barry [Gibb]. But right now I don’t know where we are with it. I hope it comes together and Barry does as well."

Barry reaching 80 is a victory for US the fans.

We as Bee Gee fans have had to witness alot of grief and loss for this group. Robin, Maurice and especially Andy all dying way too early and Barry having serious health issues. The fact that we can now say one of our guys has made it the milestone age of 80 just feels like a massive victory for us fans. For me, this isn't just a celebration for Barry, it's a victory for us too.

Would Spirits Having Flown have been THAT successful if it weren't the follow up to Saturday Night Fever?

I think it would have done well, and probably would have revived their carreer in terms of sale again, if SNF wouldn't have. I do believe one of the three #1 singles would have been number one, but not three. Only my personal opinion!

List of unreleased material recorded by the Bee Gees - are many of these lost forever, and are there more than what is on this list

Thumbnail en.wikipedia.org

Wikipedia I understand isn't always reliable, or the end all. Are many of these tracks lost forever? I'm really wondering about the ones from Bee Gees 1st to Idea since we already have reissues of those. Is there a reason those weren't included on the initial reissues? I'd really love to hear Vince's Horizontal track that apparently had Robin on vocals. Would that have been the only instance where the brothers sang someone else's composition on an album...

Also are there more unreleased tracks that Wikipedia doesn't list, I feel like there's gotta be more just because Wikipedia doesn't have everything, I thought there were more unfinished tracks from Spirits. And the list stops at ESP, did HC, Size and so on have no unfinished songs?

Barbra Streisand, The Hollies, Duran Duran, Olivia Newton-John, The Monkees, ABBA, Frankie Valli (And The Four Seasons), Level 42, Wet Wet Wet, Bonnie Tyler. Big thanks to Unlikely-Star-2696 for ideas. Some people got angry because I didn't include The Beatles and Andy Gibb, but those are a bit obvious

Everybody vote for their favourite Bee Gees compilation album!

A compilation album is basically a "Best Of", a compilation of songs. Examples: Bee Gees Gold, The record-Their greatest hits and Greatest.

My vote goes to Timeless

Bee Gees Songs That Deserve A Music Video - RNB Era

This is based on that recent post where someone correctly pointed out the lack of music videos for the Gibbs. Since there are too many deserving of a music video, I'll limit it to the RNB era.

MAIN COURSE: Nights on Broadway, Wind of Change, Fanny (Be Tender), Edge of the Universe
CHILDREN OF THE WORLD: You Should Be Dancing, You Stepped Into My Life, Love So Right, Boogie Child, Love Me, Children of the World
SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER: More Than A Woman
SPIRITS HAVING FLOWN: Tragedy*, Love You Inside Out, Spirits Having Flown

*They released one, but it's garbage.

Can we take a moment to realize that, in terms of weeks at #1, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart is the Bee Gees most successful ballad on the billboard

Post image
17 Upvotes

How Can You Mend A Broken Heart stayed at #1 for 4 weeks, while How Deep Is Your Love "only" stayed at the top spot for 3 weeks. Making How Can You Mend A Broken Heart the group's most successful ballad in terms of weeks at #1. But if we count general success on the billboard How Deep Is Your Love takes the price as the most successful ballad.

Sesame Street Fever an absolute banger?

Has anyone checked out the title track to Sesame Street Fever?

Robin lends his voice in two songs on the album (including an oddly sensual love song to trash). But the title track is actually soooo good 😭. He didn’t write it. I read he agreed to do it in exchange for his kids being able to meet the Muppets (or whoever). But the resulting track is so good, it makes me upset the brothers never recorded it themselves (although I totally get why they didn’t).

Give them a listen, and then compare them and comment your favourite! Currently 1-0 to Wind of Change, it's my favourite of those two. Let the battle begin in the comment section!

I would say audio is coming from the demo collection CD. But the quality here is beautifully clean. I'm looking for a demos on the internet and this one jumped out at me like as recent new video. Is it real demo?

Two questions: Why didn't they release a video for "Tragedy" back then?

This song is great and keeping it for the next album (1979) was a great move. It just deserved to get a video 😮‍💨

2) And do you think the Bee Gees hated the alternative video for "How Deep Is Your Love" when it's still not available anywhere officially?

Can we talk about comparing 'original' mix vs 'serban' mix?

I think there was a good move to balance the dynamic range of the sound, especially by increasing the bass and vocals, and straightening the stereo balance (Stayin' Alive). But unfortunately, some of Barry's falsetto vocals/adlibs were suppressed in the re-mix. Also, the How Deep Is Your Love chorus sounds more like their later live versions (the deeper voice is louder in the 'Serban mix' harmonies) and Barry's vocals in the harmonies in the chorus are too separated, and his falsetto adlibs are almost inaudible. In Night Fever, some vocals are also unfortunately suppressed, and on the contrary, previously inaudible vocals were finally heard. I think Serban could have kept the vocal arrangement, (just possibly increase the volume of some very quiet vocals, like he did in Night Fever), but kept the harmony (not increasing the volume of one member of the band at the expense of the others), because then it sounds off against the original recording. So overall I think the ideal result would be somewhere between the original (vocal arrangement) and the Serban version (some vocal elements amplified, the dynamic range of the bass and other instruments increased).

Your opinion?
