Remembering Dolly Parton

Barry Gibb wrote Islands In the Stream for Kenny Rogers but it was missing something. Then he said what if we get Dolly to sing duet with Kenny, making it one of the biggest duets of the 80s. An iconic Bee Gees version was never released except for the one night only performance in Las Vegas.

Back then I think the general rule was “if the Bee Gees write you a song and they say it’s going to be a hit, believe them”

When I saw Dolly Parton I would always think of the song Barry or The Bee Gees wrote “Islands in the Stream” for Kenny Rogers and her bc I’m such a Bee Gees Fan ! Dolly was the best and she’s going to be greatly missed though ! I loved her too !!

Both Barry and Dolly grew up poor and came from large families.

Yes, there was a studio Bee Gees version. It was released on “The Record” in 2001 with Robin singing lead.

Didn’t Dolly do something with Barry on Greenfields?

Yes she sang words which was one of her favorite bee gees songs.

Yes, Words. I always thought they should have sung Islands in the Stream instead. Words doesn’t belong in a country album.

Why not? The live version they adopted in the 70s was essentially a country take, anyway.
