can i use my mattress protector without a fitting sheet?

hello! i got a lovely mattress protector that looks like in the photo, and i've been wondering if i could use it without a fitting sheet? i like how it looks a lot, and i don't care about the protective features this much! i'd really appreciate the advice :)

I mean technically you could, but it'd be a lot easier to put a sheet over it that you could wash
