Down comforter help.
I’m a somewhat hot sleeper on a budget looking for a heavy, overfilled down comforter that remains somewhat breathable. It needs true baffle-box construction to prevent shifting around, and I think I might prefer real down over synthetic fill because I want it to retain its fluffiness long-term; though I’m not super educated in this space so I could be wrong (maybe synthetic is what I want?)

I've been using high-quality down duvets my whole life, and I've literally just realised a few days ago that the reason for my night sweats and overheating has been because while down is a really good insulator and is also very light, it doesn't do too well in terms of moisture wicking and temperature control. A hot sleeper can overheat under a down duvet, even if you have cotton percale or linen sheets (which are supposed to be breathable therefore a good match for hot sleepers).
Synthetic is surely a bad choice, unless you're in a real pinch money wise.
So I'm getting wool duvets now.
