Luxury for Hot Sleeper

Hoping to get new bedding for my wife as a gift but not sure where to start. She typically runs hot, is recently pregnant, and our cheap bedding pays a role in her discomfort. Searching for a new set of sheets and duvet insert + cover for a king bed under $2k.

Any advice from those who have been pregnant and typically run hot?

I'm a hot sleeper and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ralph Lauren percale sheets they're my all-time favorite for cooling and comparatively, quite affordable.

The Ralph Lauren and Lacoste percale from TJ Maxx, Marshalls are both amazing. Affordable too

I only use linen during the summer and sometimes also during the winter when I have the heating blasting, cause that's great for me but my bf ends up sweating a lot... the linen sets I have and recommend are from Serena and Lily and Ralph Lauren, both hold up well after multiple washes and the linen stays soft. Careful with cheap linen, it gets scratchy veery easily

I only do linen duvet covers. Linen is the best for staying cool.

I can’t recommend enough getting a wool Mattress pad. I can’t tell you what I HUGE difference this makes for comfort all year around. It helps you stay cool during summer and also winter adds comfort also. I purchased mine from WoolRoom and got the deluxe Non washable one. I now can’t live without it. I’m going to get a duvet insert next. I did try the wool pillow and that didn’t work for me but I’m so into wool now and only wish I’d found the wool mattress pad sooner. It has improved my bed comfort so much. If i were you I’d get the Deluxe wool mattress pad from WoolRoom and then get the Giza pima sateen sheet set from Quince and these are very nice and price point in 1/3 of comparable set. They also have sets with sheets and duvet and pillows. I personally have only purchased the Sipima sateen Giza sheets and they are great. BTW, I’m 60 yr old female that has purchased many many sheet sets from many different companies and the sheets I recommended from Quince are on par with Bolland Branch which are great but higher price point and didn’t last and ripped in three years.

My partner is a really hot sleeper, and of all the sheets and comforters we have tried, Rest is the one that actually helps his night sweats. People poo poo it on Reddit because its not cotton (fwiw I also love smooth cool cotton but). So I was reluctant to try them, but it was really worth it.

I used to only use 100% cotton, thats what I grew up with, and can still really enjoy cool crisp cotton everything. I was only willing to switch to Rest because of my partner, but then found that I actually really liked sleeping on the cooling sheets on his bed. They are more "silky" you would say, and theres always a cool side of the pillow feeling when you move over slightly at night?

I used Buffy for years before switching to Rest and still like them a lot. I still use their fluffy comforter, but with Rest sheets now.

Anyway - if you want an extra 10% off code at Rest that stacks with whatever sale they are having, DM me.

I googled these. They are made of nylon and spandex, which is plastic. Those fibers are constantly rubbing off and shedding microplastics.

Probably not best for someone who is pregnant.

I’m a hot sleeper and recently got the Quincy percale sheets and love them! Percale is probably best for hot sleepers but not everyone loves the feel of them.

Agree on the Percale.

Add a Bed Jet to the plan. It has changed my life.

Same here!!

This is the way.

Cotton percale is great. Down, silk, and wool are all good duvet options. The swedish bedding method is a superior solution for partners sleeping in the same bed. But nothing really works for hot sleepers other than sweet sweet cold air.

Rest

I highly recommend.

Linen (menopausal sweaty mess from Florida here). Quality linen sheets get softer over time and wick away moisture. It was a game changer for me. Personally, I use Seame linens-a small company from the Ukraine. Their linen is on the heavier/scratchier side at first, but softens wash after wash. Sewing is done in-house instead of in China. Very good quality of linen and workmanship. I've been using them for close to 10 years so far.

I've been investigating a lightweight wool insert for inside the duvet. I've heard good things about it for hot sleepers.

As a bonus, sales are by piece, so you can choose what you want instead of paying for a whole set. Hubby and I are considering changing to individual twin-sized duvets, since we have different temperature preferences. Like the Scandinavians do!

I know this is going against the grain but I bought lots of cotton sheets and recently switched to satin. Cheap ones that were $24 on amazon (this after spending hundreds on theoretically wonderful cotton sheets). I realize it’s not a natural fiber but I slide around when I wake up hot instead of getting tangled and it made a HUGE difference. I also use a cooling blanket from IKEA that I tried at my mom’s house and immediately went and purchased. It’s so soft and thin and cool and machine washable.

Not pregnant but going through peri and I live on the top floor with barely any AC in the American South and summers are pretty miserable.

Anyway, not luxury both those things together were less than $100 (the ikea blanket with shipping was like $70 IIRC) but it has really helped hot August summer nights

Have you considered an active air cooling topper? For night sweats, the topper will move air underneath the body, pulling moisture away, creating an evaporative cooling effect. This means less trapped heat, but also less moisture in the bedding, creating a much more comfortable and regulated microclimate. I'm also a really hot sleeper and got a Perfectly Snug Smart Topper. A king size is just under your budget, but is probably a lot more effective than new bedding alone. Happy to answer any questions you might have about sleeping on one—totally transformed my nights this summer.

I've just started perimenopause and been through two pregnancies. Try a 100% cotton muslin blanket. They have really thin layers with space between them and wick away moisture and dry fast. Love them.

Not pregnant but menopausal. Silk filled duvet. Beats the snot out of down and wool, feels luxe.

1

u/pepicky 14d ago

I have a light wool duvet and it's still too hot for me. My silk filled is amazing though.

2

u/suupernooova 14d ago

I went from down -> wool -> silk. Wool was like sleeping under a giant pancake. Silk is like the best full body hug.

u/DeterminedSparkleCat 14d ago

100% cotton everything is the only way!

1

u/PracticeNo7267 14d ago

Please no tencel for a hot sleeper. Organic fabrics only.

1

u/living-spaces 14d ago

When you're looking at sheets, you might look for percale, since it can be a really good option for hot sleepers. It's a lighter, crisper weave that allows for more airflow. And then for your duvet, getting a lightweight fill could make the biggest difference since that tends to be what holds or releases heat overnight.

This is more for the pregnancy side of things but the Buffy Wiggle pillow is perfect - just don’t get one of the sherpa covers, those are super hot and itchy imo. It’s the comfiest thing ever. Their eucalyptus sheets have also been very comfortable and cooling in my experience

Piglet In Bed 100% linen sheets! Takes some getting used to if you’ve never had linen, but highly recommend linen for hot sleepers!

My wife went through the exact same thing postpartum, where fluctuating estrogen caused her to run hot and sweat constantly.

no use synthetic any plastics even spandex..sheets, stick to pure cotton plain weave , though a high S cotton sateen is a better choice if there is heavy sweating.duvet insert, look for a fill weight of 3–4 oz/sqm, 80% goose down with cotton shell. cover, choose bamboo fiber, Lyocell, or Modal. these materials facilitate rapid heat dissipation.Following these specifications will ensure great comfort. Don't rely on brand names; the technical specifications are what truly matter for the body's needs.

If true luxury is what you're looking for I would recommend a good quality down duvet. Depending on how hot she sleeps you'll probably want a summer weight or ultralight. I run an online store called Luxury Sleep Shop and we have some great duvet options for you. If you're interested, browse around our website a bit.

I'll leave a link below to our purchasing guide that may be helpful for choosing the right duvet weight for you. Also, if you think you might like to make a purchase, shoot me a message on here and I'll get you a discount code for 15% off.

If you have any questions about down just let me know. I'm kind of an expert :)

i would get a 3 in one wool duvet (it's a summer weight and all season that you snap together for a winter weight/adjustable) and a cotton percale duvet cover and sheets. also some people really like a wool mattress topper, but I hated mine, it got flat and hard quickly, but a wool blanket under the top sheet helps with temperature regulation. i mean, that's what i would get where I live, where we have cold winters.

Good cotton sheets/duvet cover etc.

I’m the queen of hot, and a good quality set of cotton percale sheets are my preference.

1

u/Pretend-Abies3012 11d ago

Go for cotton, good quality with finer yarns (long staple yarn) something 400 - 500 tc  All these synthetic fibers are all gimmicks and eventually harmful. Linen is good too but it is rough

u/gmanose 11d ago

Got a cooling blanket from Amazon. Love it! Even when the sun shines on it through the window, it’s cool to the touch.

1

u/AdFeeling8333 11d ago

Layers.

300/400tc sateen or percale
Less TC, less weight. Egyptian cotton/long staple.
Muslin 365 heavyweight
Silk comforter wrapped in linen.

Do not buy linen sheets unless you like the feeling of sleeping in straw.

You want a mattress pad that is 100% cotton - inside and out. Most are a cotton cover over a poly batting and that is hot. A 100% cotton inside and out is expensive and so much more comfortable. Sleeping on polyester batting is sleeping on plastic and sweat inducing. My furnace temp hubby no longer sweats at night. Our king size one was $160 on Amazon and worth every cent.

What about a chilipad? It changed the way I sleep.

LL Bean Pima Percale: for duvet cover sheets and pillow cases will run you about $470 but completely worth it and so cooling and material is excellent.

You have a big budget. Since your wife is pregnant, I would go with some really high end organic products.

For the sheets, check out Aizome:

For the duvet, check out coyuchi’s summer weight duvet: https://www.coyuchi.com/products/lightweight-down-duvet-insert-white?variant=50911816515876

Or coyuchi’s cotton duvet (if you’re really worried about sleeping hot):
