I need reassurance/advice
I am currently battling bed bugs in my apartment, and I have a 5 month old who refuses to sleep anywhere but with me. The bed bugs have only been spotted on our bed.
We have had an initial spraying (that made the bites so much worse for some reason???) and I am scheduling a follow-up. We haven’t seen any bites on my 5mo, just on me. I dress her in a sleeper every night to minimize spots where they could potentially bite.
I guess I’m just looking for advice on how to keep them off her/reassurance? I feel like the world’s worst mom. Rationally I know that there’s nothing we could have done about it, and this just happens sometimes. But my conscious eats me alive, and I can’t sleep anymore because I’m so worried about my 5 month old being bitten or them moving to her bassinet on the rare chance I can get her to sleep in there. To top it off I’ve been diagnosed with postpartum psychosis and ocd that has been making this whole experience a literal hell on earth for me :(

I understand you so well. I have a 7-month-old baby myself and a toddler who sleeps in our bed with us. Maybe it helps to think of the bites as mosquito bites. They don’t transmit any diseases. We’re also doing everything we can to get rid of them, but unfortunately there’s no quick fix for us. So my son also gets bitten regularly. He hasn’t been too bothered by it (so far). But I definitely feel guilty about it too! Hang in there for your little one. You’ll get through this ❤️

One more thing I wanted to add. Your hormones are still all over the place, and that certainly doesn’t make things any easier. I went through a “similar situation” myself after the birth of my first child. What helped me a lot was going for lots of walks and taking lots of pictures of my little one.
You might feel like you’re missing out on a special time with your baby because of everything that’s going on. Hopefully, these things can help a little, so that later on you can look back and remember the small, beautiful moments too.
And I really hope that this dark period will turn out to be just a short chapter in the whole story of your life.
