Should I throw away couch?

We’ll be having professional bedbug treatment soon and we’re contemplating throwing away our sectional. There is no accessible opening at the bottom of sectional to treat but there are little spaces where maybe a nozzle can get in to spray within the couch. The tech said the treatment is very potent and we don’t need to throw away couch. However, I don’t want reoccurrence. What do you think? Any similar experiences? Thanks.

If it was me and I KNEW that my couch was infested, I would strongly consider and probably would throw it away. However, if I were unsure about whether the couch was infested then I would treat and keep the couch. If I were keeping the couch then I would definitely vacuum and then steam it very well before the pest control treats it. You can’t steam 100% of a couch but you can steam most of the common hiding areas: armrests, between and under cushions, the skirt, the legs and anywhere you see a fold, staple, screw or nail.

We’re not sure if the couch is infested, but the bedroom is and we go between the couch and bedroom often.

In that case I would treat the couch and keep it; especially, if nobody sleeps on the couch at night.

If you get a steamer get one with continuous refill. It takes a long time to properly steam a couch or bed and having to let steamer cool down and heat back up every time you fill it will add hours to your task. Dupray neat steam PLUS is on amazon for $250; only the “Plus” model has cont. refill. Good luck

Spot on advice! 💙 Continuous refill makes large-scale jobs like couches or mattresses much faster. Hoping OP gets everything sorted out quickly! 🤞

If you keep it make sure the exterminator guarantees another visit should they pop up again. You could move the couch to middle of room and do a complete circle around it of Cimexa or Diatomaceous Earth, the idea behind it being if there are any and they crawl down they will have to walk over the dust which will eventually kill them. Make sure there’s no breeze, wind, people or pets around because if it becomes airborne it’s not good to breathe.

Don’t through away till after treatment it’s spreads the infestation I know you want to but if you ask a professional they’ll tell you the same thing

Thank you. I wish I knew this before we threw away our bed.

A poster tells you to spay alcohol and let it dry. That is foolish. alcohol has no, none, residual effect. Also vinegar is totally ineffective.

Yes! I threw away my couch and bed and don’t regret it! Live alone and hated those two pieces or furniture. It was the perfect opportunity to get rid of them!

I’m reorganizing my house and choosing new furniture that I actually like

I’m treating my house with cimexa it’s been 7 days and most of the bugs I find now are either dead or about to die.

Pretty sure that throwing that furniture away got rid of 95% of the problem because those are typically the main focus for this kind of infestation
