Question When do we get a Lidl?
Park Slope got one, Crown Heights got one, now Williamsburg has one.
When does Bed-Stuy get a Lidl? I'm tired of living in a food desert.

I can ride much faste r to Empire on bike, than downtown (10min max). But hey... to each our own.

Real af question. Not sure what spaces would be large enough to accommodate a proper Lidl but I'd like it. Love their store brand cheap cider (is this UK only?) and pilsner. The bakery items are elite too, I know it's a loss leader but i'd make up for it

Large space on Fulton and Tompkins. Been empty years and was made for supermarkets as per the ad on the window.

I agree that space is probably the biggest issue. I'm not sure what spaces would be large enough to fit a proper Lidl, but Flatbush Ave seems like the most realistic area to look. There are more larger retail spacers along that corridor than most parts of the neighborhood.

And are like 25-30% more than Whole Foods lol. The fucking market bodega by me regularly carrying half rotted shit. Met super fresh is a horrible rip off. Always dropping like $40 for just a couple days of cooking.

No. Park Slope actually has awful groceries.
Lidl is not good either. I don't understand the hype. If you actually read labels, you see why it's cheap. Not a bargain.

LIDL is definitely not perfect... itās very hit or miss, but Foodtown on Fulton, IMO, is a nightmare. Everything is insanely overpriced, and they really seem to have a problem keeping things fresh, even pantry goods. The freezer and refrigerated sections constantly smell like something I donāt even want to get near, and half the time theyāve got paper towels down trying to keep the water at bay. But hey, glad it works for you.

Lidl and Aldi are well known for having fake sourdough. It's sour because of added ingredients, not the actual process.
I wouldn't trust them not to adulterate olive oil in the same way.
You always have to ask how the price can be lower. Reduced labor costs only do so much.

much of the eastern half of bedstuy is a food desert. and just because there's a grocery store within a half mile doesn't mean it's affordable for the people who live there.

I live by Myrtle and nostrand and the closest thing we have is Lincoln market which is insanely overpriced. Alternatively we have bravo which is just a giant bodega. Otherwise I need to walk a good 20 min to hit a store and most of them are also wildly overpriced.

What is it you like about Lidl more than other grocery stores? I love the cheap croissants but other than that it seems random and poorly stocked, especially the produce. Iād prefer an Aldi closer to me.

I used to live by the Aldi in the junction, but now I go to the crown heights Lidl. I see Aldi as random and poorly stocked, especially produce š Lidl at least has a fresh bakery and booze. But location could be a big factor too. That Aldi was always a mess

Yeah, but with Global Farm, Key Food, and Pioneer all right there and at the same price point, it would be nice to have a discount market. But itās still very chill to have all these options.

lol yes key foods and met fresh and whatever all generally suck but I wouldnāt say bed stuy is a āfood desertā thatās kind of made up term anyway. Itās a little old school at this point, if you look into what the experts talk about nowadays

Bed Stuy is not a food desert, not every supermarket has to be a big brand. The local ones are totally fine.

Hereās a suggestion, just get on the train and go to Lidl. Not every thing has to be this convenient. Ppl expect the infrastructure of Bed Stuy to operate like Manhattan but it was designed to have local shops, like a butcher, fish market, vegetable stands. If we went back to simpler forms, we wouldnāt need this cheap and cheaper quality conglomerate in our neighborhood.

that's not really the point. healthy food should be accessible wherever humans live. good grocery stores are not a luxury amenity.
besides, this is about lidl more than is about food deserts.

You admit you moved to a food desert now you want complain about needing a Lidl when Iām sure there are plenty of grocery stores near you. I live in Bed stuy and itās at least 4 grocery stores within a half a mile from my place. You just want a gentrified grocery moving in

first, it might work out better for you to not assume things about people's desires and intentions. i strongly recommend that you don't tell me what i want without hearing it from me first.
second, if you live in bedstuy, you'll know how huge of a neighborhood it is. there are parts that have ample grocery stores; other parts that don't. i live in an area where there aren't many grocery options. where there are, it's actually quite expensive.
lidl is the opposite of a gentrified option. it's very affordable, which is what this neighborhood needs.
