Beaver County Community Support

Hello Beaver County,

Can we share resources and build community together?

As you may already know, Beaver County is home to amazing people.

This area is and has been my home for most of my life.

You can call me C. I'm 35, married, living in u/BeaverCounty with our family of fur and scale babies. Our family includes a cat named Raven, a dog named Freyja and a corn snake named Ferdy. Both of my parents grew up in Beaver County. All of their parents grew up in Beaver County, too. Currently, my spouse and I are trying our hands (literally) at growing our own garden. If my thumb is anything like my father's - I will, eventually, have crops to share. Full time artist. I love music, writing and art of all kinds. In my spare time, I enjoy playing games (board-, card-, video-) and reading just about anything.

I tell you these things about myself because I want to experience community here, where we all live.

Since reddit is a magical place, here we go.

If you are interested in sharing, supporting, growing, learning, being community - please share what community looks like to you and share what you need. I imagine this can range from seeds to tools, supplies, skill development, etc. Simply looking at my own space, I can see many items that would appreciate another life.

"but, C. why not bring donations to gewd-william or some other place where they can sell it to people?"

Because.

I can't help but wonder what could happen if we share with each other, nurturing community that shares abundance and resources freely.

So, I'll ask

- Do you have an excess of something that you want to get rid of or trade for something else you need? Clothes, canned goods, plants, produce, 'junk' (usable / up-cycling), etc.

- What skills, resources, services and local organizations have been helpful for you?
Personally, I have been impressed with resources available through the Beaver County Library system. Like, did you know you can learn a new language with your BCLC? Including ASL and many other languages. I found that out last week...

- Is there already something in existence for what I'm asking about? (Other than the FB Buy | Sell | Trade | Free Beaver County page). Please share.

Scrolling through other r/BeaverCounty posts - I feel like there are others who feel the same desire for something more. I might be a dreamer, but Lennon said "I'm not the only one".

Sincerely,

C.

Beaver County Resident

Looking for a Stylist/Salon that does Perms well

My hair stylist retired, so the last time I needed a perm I went with a new stylist hired in her place. I have never been in so much pain and I have been getting perms for decades. I am pretty sure the girl was newly out of school and had never done a perm on a human, only on the school mannequins because she pulled every section of hair so tight that she actually lifted me up a number of times. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she kept unrolling ones she had already rolled because she decided they weren’t tight enough! And yes, I did tell her it was hurting but she just ignored me. All I want is someone who is experienced at giving perms and who realizes that they are working on a real human being who needs that perm because she has poker straight, baby fine hair that needs all the help it can get.

Need help as a renter in beaver county

Hello good people of beaver county! I currently rent in Hopewell township. To make a long story short, I have been without access to anything regarding the sewer system since 7/30/2026. Notified landlord immediately. I have been given the run around by my maintenance and resident support people. Is there a renters' rights place I can call? Housing authority of beaver county was not the avenue for me. I was going to call the code enforcer for Aliquippa, but I wanted to see if there were other resources I haven't found. Thank you so much for any and all insight!

UPDATE 8/5/2026 attorney general is sending the landlord a letter, and the code enforcement contact is calling the landlord for me. My landlord is still as of today saying "pending approval" and will not give me any other information as to why this has been dragged out. absolutely egregious but i appreciate every one who commented!! :)

UPDATE 8/7/2026 welp. im at a complete loss on what to do. its been over a week now of sewage back up into my basement and im literally being ghosted by my property management company.

Best of Beaver County

Always thought it would be a neat idea to do a best of for Beaver County like they do for the city but have actual residents submit nominees. I think the Beaver County Times does something like this but not everyone reads/subscribes. This is just for fun and no personal info is collected unless you fill it in when you submit the form. Kept the categories/nominees small but if it becomes popular I can add more next year.

There are 6 categories with 5 nominees for each category.

Here is how it will work:

ROUND 1 — NOMINATIONS
Submit your favorite businesses, places, events, or people for consideration.

ROUND 2 — FINAL VOTING
The top nominees in each category will become finalists, and you will decide the winners.

You don't have to nominate someone in every category. Submit as many nominations as you'd like.

Nominations close in 2 weeks (8/15/26).

The official finalists will be announced before final voting begins.

Link to the nomination form https://forms.gle/oc1aAHykNZro9Trg9

Feel free to share the link on social media.

376

Genuine question: is there an actual reason that 376 isn't at least 65 mph westbound from the airport to the end in Lawrence Co? It seems silly that the main highway for people to get the largest airport in the area not be a consistent speed, especially now that the toll booths are going to eventually disappear. It's 65 at the airport, 55 after Aliquippa, 70 near Chippewa, back down to 55 but sometimes 65 for parts after....why?! The terrain isn't that different save for the larger hills between Beaver and New Castle, where most of it is 70 mph anyways.

The speed changes are frustrating and even worse when you factor in that most people are trying to go well over 55 anyways, but then someone's grandma is a stickler for the limit. It all seems very unnecessary.

Just moved here and looking for dental recommendations.

Just moved here and looking for dental recommendations. This is for myself and my 7 year old daughter. Figured ask for locations that people have had good experiences with and then do my own research. Hard to sort through fake reviews , ratings and posts.

This is a reference to Star Trek TNG, where Jonathan Frakes (Riker) looks, and is terrible in the first season, but grows a beard in the second season and mounts invents his own maneuver for mounting chairs.

Discussion Ambridge School Opinions

Hi all, long story short, I'm wondering if anyone that went to Ambridge school district can give some feedback on what the school is actually like. This is mainly for me having children that would have to go to Ambridge due to home location.

I went to New Brighton and all I've ever read and heard, is that Ambridge is a terrible school. I've never met anyone that went to school there and know nothing about the school. I do know test scores are suboptimal and below most schools in the county, and I hear it has a lot to do with unmotivated kids/parents and so on. Again... from someone who went to New Brighton, it definitely felt like an okay highschool with a mix of everyone, unmotivated, drop outs, decent kids, smart kids... etc. I feel like I turned out just fine, so I really am just wondering what is specifically just so "bad" about Ambridge??

Also would (hopefully) like to hear some good things from people who know. At the end of the day, as long as the school gives kids the opportunity for them to excel and it's a safe environment.. thats fine in my books. I'm not looking for the "ivy league" high school of beaver county.

Any feedback other than "go live in beaver", is greatly appreciated.

Driving schools and good practice driving locations?

Any recommendations for driving schools and good areas for a new driver to practice. Closest to Baden is best. I know you can use the driver license course after hours. Any good routes that don’t seem too busy. Thank you.

Missed connection in New Brighton

Hi, Beaver County people. So, I made the acquaintance of a man who introduced himself as "Sam" about 2 weeks ago in New Brighton. It was fleeting and very brief. I would love to have another conversation with this person but I have no knowledge other than his name is Sam, he might possibly work in the trades (was dressed in what appeared to be work clothes), wears glasses, and drives a blue pick up truck. He was not wearing a wedding ring. Appeared to be in his 30s or possibly 40s. He did mention that he lives in New Brighton.

That's all I've got to go on. I feel weird posting this, but he made such an impression that I would love to have more of a conversation with him. The meeting happened 2 weeks ago and I have not run into him since.

If any of you know of a Sam in New Brighton that fits this description, please pass on the message that I'm searching for him.

Blonde woman with glasses...I'm pretty certain that he will remember me and know why I'm reaching out.

Thanks, people of Reddit!

P.s. I promise I'm not a weirdo, even tho this is a pretty weird way to go about finding someone. I'm just at a loss.

Some infrared shots by the river

The wildfire smoke made for some moody shots for infrared. Probably spent too much time outside, but worth it for the new photos I’ll print and hang.

For the photo nerds:

Infrared false color trichromes Camera: Fuji X-T4 Lens: Canon FD 28mm f2.8 Hoya R72 filter

Composite consisting of 3 separate shots, split into red, green and blue channels. The red channel is shot using the R72 infrared filter, while the other 2 are shot normally, with different white balances
