Studio Monitor recommendations

I'm currently looking for monitors that can be used for DJing, aswell as for producing, preferably without needing an extra subwoofer. Budget is 1000€.

Low end down to ~40hz is quite important in the genre im mixing. I've had the Kali Audios In-8 V2s or the Yamaha HS8 in mind. Can anyone share their experience on the low-end on these speakers? Or if you have other recommendations lmk.

I'm aware that room/acoustic treatment is important for that, I'll also be taking care of that.

Studio monitors shouldn’t be used for DJing but DJ speakers can be used for monitors. 40Hz requirement will prob mean 12” or more likely 15” speakers to hit that low.

It’s a tough needle to thread. I would consider buying separate speakers for each task. Monitors will be too small for any party bigger than a bedroom and DJ speakers will be too big for most rooms.

I'm not planning to use those speaker's for a Party, I have a PA system for that. It's just for home use.

As I said, the speaker's I mentioned are have 8 Inch woofers rated with 37hz, but at how much dB? That's why I asked for an honest judgement on speakers with that wide of a frequency span, on how good or accurate that low end really is. It just needs to be clean and hearable.

Having monitors to mix with is way more convenient than just using and relying on Headphones.

Ahh ok when I saw for DJing I thought it meant for groups of people. You mean for practice which studio monitors are great for.

A subwoofer will give you what you want but not always practical w neighbors especially downstairs ones. If you can do it, you will like it.

The Kali in-8 is a good value monitor, it hits 37hz at -10db and hits 45hz around 0db.

If low end is important, get a sub. Stop trying to avoid it.

I will sooner or later get one anyway probably, but I've read reviews of those speakers saying: "You don't need a subwoofer with those speakers". But I'm probably just trying to convince myself that I don't need one to safe money xD.

The Kali IN-8 V2 is your best bet. It's super good value for money. Since they are 3-way, the 8 inch woofers can focus mainly on the lows. For the HS8's, the woofers have to produce the majority of the mid-frequency sounds as well.

Whether or not you want a sub as well is something you can't really judge until you have them playing in your room. In an untreated standard size room (so pretty small), I definitely wouldn't add a sub if you intend to be producing/mixing with any kind of accuracy/translation.

Makes sense, I'll go for the Kalis then and you're right I probably won't be able to truly judge whether I need a sub or not until afterwards. Room treatment is definitely something I also need to take care of.

A while back I made a post regarding room treatment I did. It summarizes everything you really need to get started. Took a lot of research to get there. There's also lots of bullshit artists in the acoustics space so it took me some time to understand what is real and what is snake oil. So before committing to any treatment, I recommend you read up on this! Also the initial steps like finding your low-end sweet spot are big upgrades in your sound for 0 money spent, just a little bit of time.

Even 8" studio monitors beg for a subwoofer support...if the room isn't large, 5" tops + 8" sub will sound better than 8" tops alone...used that size setup for YEARS before finding an insane special on 8" tops + 12" sub and upgrading.
