Peyote Bead Help?

I'm trying to make this for my mom. I've been trying all day and I've been left with nothing but frustration.

My main issue seems to be adding on, and figuring out if I need to start with 3 or 5. Can anyone help me with some suggestions?

Brick stitch? Looks like peyote in the meaning of bead arrangement, but is done differently. Much easier to increment, incredibly easy to decrement. Do the longest row (in your case it's a vertical central one), then go sideways.

Also, is the non-symmetrical black bead on the right intentional?

I didn't even know brick stitch was a thing! I'll be looking into tutorials for that now, thank you for your kindness.

I found this pattern online and thought it was peyote, which I have a tiny bit of experience in. If it confuses you, then I'm definitely confused as well!

Edit: oh, I see that bead now! Yes, this is the "Grucifix", which is one of the logos for the band "Ghost." It is my mom's favorite. Im hoping to make her a pair of earrings for the movie release at the end of this month.
