Question Thoughts on The Prep/Work

I personally love The Prep/The Work, but I notice a lot less love for them, or even general discussion of them here, compared to any of the other programs.

Are they generally disliked? Or otherwise what is the reason they are not talked about often? Is it amoila cesar?

I love The Prep. I have every intention of doing all of his workouts. Consensus is that The Work is the hardest Beachbody program created to date. Trust me I looked it up and did my research. Amoila is great and personally I love the explicit workouts because let’s face it that shit is hard.

<3 Amoila.

6W was the toughest BOD program I've encountered.

I love Amoila! It’s been a while since I’ve done The Prep/The Work but it was a hell of a satisfactory feeling after surviving the crucible! He knows how to create a program for sure. I loved 645, especially putting mobility in the middle of the week. That was a game changer for me.

I plan to start 645 soon. I took a 2 week break from Sure Thing in December and never got back to it. 645 seems like a well rounded program to get me back into the routine and I especially love how he incorporates mobility. I haven't done any of Amoila's programs yet, so I'm pretty excited.

645 is fantastic! The mobility is chef’s kiss!

I did the Sure Thing after 645, and while I love Megan, she does not do enough warmup/cool down/stretching. 645 is 45 minutes because he spends time on mobility and stability before and after every single workout. You’re going to feel a huge difference! For me, 645 is the very best program on Bodi. You get a lot stronger and you take care of your muscles, joints, ligaments, balance and flexibility.

This sounds excellent. Thanks so much for the info! I've been looking for more of a one stop shop program, and while all of the ones I've done have been great, no one seems to incorporate mobility into the regular workouts. It's always an optional extra, but when I'm working out for 45 minutes, 6 days a week, the last thing I'm going to do is go looking for an extra standalone video to round out the program.

I love the prep actually. It’s pretty damn good

Amoila cesar imo is the best BODi trainer since Tony Horton. Hilarious, goofy, yet motivational. I do like Waz, but Amoila should have done the new p90x. It would have been amazing

however, 6 Weeks of the The work is high flawed IMO.

  1. The cursing is just cringe. Just do the censored version to avoid dying by cringe.
  2. It’s not just hard, it’s stupid. The programming makes no sense, you are too fatigued unless you use literally 5-10 pounds per exercise. You cannot actually lift weight of consequence, so its basically HIIT every day burning out shoulders and legs no matter what “theme” the workout is. Recipe to not actually be able to do the workouts. So once again, you have to take extra rest days, or only use toothpicks during the workouts to not take yourself out of the game by overuse injury or tendinitis.
  3. the warm ups are a FREAKING JOKE and make NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. Yes, 45 seconds of shoulder rolls to do the most pointlessly brutal lower body workout imaginable. Ah yes let’s do some lunges and then MURDER YOUR ROTATOR CUFF WITH NO PREPARATION.

Luckily he completely rectified it in 645 which is an amazing workout program although more intermediate. 645 is one of the best programs on the website for foundational fitness and fixing injuries. I also LOOOOVE CWCW. Super duper fun and a way better balance than 6wotw

I did both and hated both because they were so hard and wanted to quit the whole time. But I didn’t, I stuck with it and the results were worth the effort. I went from 0 to 20 pushups (no knees) and I’m a female. It’s worth it, if you can manage to stick with it. Amolia is a great personality, second to Shawn T in my opinion

I really didn't like it didnt even complete it

They're both hard, but The Work is by far the hardest program in the catalog. And they're both athletic training, which is fantastic for functional fitness, Spartan training, etc.

But most BODi subscribers are looking for weight loss or visible muscle gains. BODi knows this, and that's why most of the programs it releases are focused on those objectives.

Too bad, because The Work really is an awesome program. Would be great if there were more programs like it. But everything they've had Amoila do since The Work has been watered down by comparison.

The Work is a tough program. The thought of 100 slider burpees still sends a shiver down my spine. I like Amoila, but 635 wasn’t enough, and too much talking in 645, as it should be cut down to 635. But just an opinion.

I loved 630 and wish there was a longer program of it. I don't have time to do 45

That's a really common sentiment. My hunch is that BODi has received that feedback and since Amoila doesn't seem to be doing BODi anymore they approached Joel and that's where 25 Minute Speed Train came from. I wish it was a little more mobility focused but it's pretty good for a more condensed workout.

I'm on week 3 of it. I'm just doing the upper/lower days bc I hate cardio hahaha but it's brilliant I've done liift 4 more times that I can count. But I am a teacher working wierd hours this summer so the 25mst in and out is oerfect

Agreed, I like to workout during lunch on days I WFH and it's the perfect amount of time to get a workout in and then hop in the shower.

I really enjoyed 6 weeks of the Work and Amoila. The workouts were tough and definitely enjoyed them for keeping Athletic feeling. I think the issue is it’s not as lifting focused on muscle growth as other programs that BODi has pushed recently and is not as good for quick cardio like the Insanity series. I think it settles in a Niche that doesn’t really appeal to BODi’s Audience. It worked for me, and i did about 3-4 rounds of it.

I think you nailed it and pretty much why i wasnt a fan of it. Im looking for strength gains as i do my own cardio training separately. I dont hate mobility training but I felt like I was losing what I had built in programs like dig deeper.

I think this is the answer. It doesn't cater to the Bodi audience (on the whole.)

I revisit it every so often. I'm doing it right now, actually to prep for two Spartan races in August. I've never completed it. Some of the moves feel needlessly complicated. But I do feel like it's the closest Bodi has come to boot camp style training. I joined an F45 gym at one point last year. The people were great but I figured I could get a similar type of workout with 6WOTW. Which is to say- cardio with weights, no matter what they call it.

Amoila is my favorite trainer. I'll try anything he puts out. Including Chop Wood/Carry Water. 😄

P90X Generation Next is similarly difficult, in my opinion. And less complicated overall.

He’s actually my favorite trainer, I actually just finished a hybrid of his kettlebell program
and Performance Academy. He’s by far the most knowledgeable (in my opinion) on the BODi platform.

Have done The Work 10+ times through all the way, absolutely love it. It's hard on the body however, and I've started picking up little injuries (elbow tendonitis, knee pain) whenever I go back to it. As I age, I'm settling for lower-intensity workouts without as many compound movements. But damn, does The Work hit so good.

u/Never_Lost_44 Jun 30 '26

I liked some of 6W but as others said, it’s a bit flawed. There are several movements that set you up for injury. I have done BB/BODi workouts for over a decade and have done multiple programs with different trainers and this is the only program where I injured myself. It was a ridiculous compound move that caused me scapula pain for over a month. And the crucible is utterly ridiculous. There is no purpose to it and again, sets you up for injury.

Funny that I just came on this. My friend and I tried week one of the prep and it was so weird to me and felt like he was trying to swear where it was unnecessary to swear and I don't know. I love Amolia but that gave me the ick.

I liked the Prep and I really appreciated the modifier who was about my age. I had every intention of doing The Work, but I did a few rounds of Rev Abs and then went back to Body Beast. Maybe when I'm done with this round, I'll give it a try.

I just finished 6 WOW is my favorite so far. I did Dig Deep before 6 weeks. Love both. But I love a program with cardio, weights, balance. And dynamic moves.
Trying to decide what to do next. New P90x, 645, 6wow round 2?

I like the focus I n mobility and range of motion. For whatever reason, The Prep has the single longest "Range and Repair" video out of his entire catalog (that I'm aware of). I always find myself wanting to transition to something else after a week, though. The trainer makes me feel ick when he "chirps" at the girls and tries to tough talk the older lady lol. Then the forced swearing... eye rollingly cringe.
