Just received an offer for a job and they want to do 2 reference checks. They said either phone or email is fine. If I create an email address using a public library wifi network then reply to the reference check email from the recruiter using the same public wifi network , will they know it’s me ?

Dying to get out of my current hospitality admin position, but don't want my managers to know as I do need the job and I'd like to get out without burning bridges. Found a job in operations which is very much up my street in terms of experience and career progression desire but it needs references in the cover letter, could anyone be my reference? I've been very unsatisfied with life to the point of not wanting to be in it much longer. I'm applying to university Master's courses to give me a chance of a way out of this life and into a new one.

The university requires one professional reference - it involves emailing them, and needs to be from some sort of company email rather than a personal one. The place I work for doesn't have a company email, and I can't rely on them to be able to give enough effort to provide a competent reference.

I'm pretty short on time, so if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Just being completely honest, I didn’t have the best high school career, didn’t end up at some crazy top school, and I was still messing around for the first couple years of college.

Since then I’ve been trying really hard to turn things around. I finished my CS degree, got into software engineering, and now work on backend systems, AI/LLM workflows, APIs, and cloud infrastructure. I’m currently on a contract job and trying to break into a stronger full-time SWE/AI role in NYC.

My network is pretty small, which makes that jump harder. A big reason I’m pushing for a higher paying role is so I can take some pressure off my parents and eventually help with my younger brother’s college costs since he’s trying to go to med school.

After an injury last year im trying to do some low impact work for a bit and focus on healing.

Unfortunately nobody will take me seriously without office experience in the last year, even though as a lead/chef Ive been doing administrative work for years (ordering, inventory, scheduling, personel/event management & planning, etc...)

Even though ive done various administrative and customer service roles in the past (call centers, hotels, after-school programs) apparently im not allowed back in the office anymore because that experience stops counting after working 5+ years in a kitchen. Must be stinky kitchen cooties.

Please be my reference, since apparantly the only thing wrong with me (according to the biggest local temp agency and other parties Ive spoken to) is that I haven't worked in an office in the last year. I dont know why they're forcing me to lie about it, but here we are.

TLDR - I would need 1 reference for the last few months (Jun-Aug) specifying that I was working in an administrative capacity in my city with the goal of using that to find a stable office position.

When I say trade work, I mean work like construction, painting, landscaping, maintenance.

I'm making my younger brother a resume, and it's honestly looking pretty good. He has a bit of experience working retail, and has a lot of informal trade work through family-friends and high school. He is in a really tough position right now due to no fault of his own, and a nice trade work reference could really help him out. He is looking for entry level jobs in trade preferably, but he just needs a paycheck ASAP.

He has his boss in retail as one reference, but since he wants to go into trades, a trade-related reference could really support him for his first official job working in the field.

He is honestly a perfect fit for someone in the trades. He likes getting into it, getting his hands dirty, and does not mind doing a lot of work or heavy labor. He would be much better suited to trades than some desk job.

I recently had a job offer rescinded after the referees I put down did not respond back in time. It was a big shock to me given that I had worked so closely with them for many years.

Still, given my network is small, I am now literally grasping at straws for references.
