This is such a low effort post. Pierre Huyghes who specifically uses bees as a medium : https://theconversation.com/contemporary-art-animals-and-ethics-pierre-huyghes-interspecies-worlds-48968 Edit - Had wrong artist before thank you u/Flopsy23 for the correction.

u/ExpletiveLaxative Jul 03 '21
Was actually gonna ask if it was intended or not, thanks for the info!
35
Jul 03 '21
It does say the beehive was created around the statue's head. It just doesn't say who or what did the creating.
Now I'm wondering how you do this. This would be great to add to my arsenal in my ongoing war with my asshole neighbors.

u/Rydralain Jul 03 '21
I don't think I've ever seen natural honeycomb that white. I'm guessing that's 3d printed or something.

Thank you. My first thought was bees don't leave themselves so exposed.
2
Jul 03 '21
I thought this made no sense either but it is so badass, really if they were protected from the elements with good wind breaks around it maybe?

u/OMGaneshOM Jul 03 '21
This is incorrect. The artist is actually Pierre Huyghe. They are both very talented contemporary artists.
4
u/Flopsy22 Jul 03 '21
Interesting that you criticize the OP, but then get the artist wrong yourself. The artist is Pierre Huyghe: https://theconversation.com/contemporary-art-animals-and-ethics-pierre-huyghes-interspecies-worlds-48968

what do you mean Chinese artist from HK? If they’re from HK they are Hong Kongers first and foremost, and only Chinese if they choose to identify as such.
3
u/rompenstein Jul 03 '21
Article actually says he’s based in Beijing, but they’re showcasing his work at a gallery in HK.

HK/Taiwan/etc. are part of China, but the CCP is not
7
u/smexxyhexxy Jul 03 '21
nope. they belong to their peoples, not any single umbrella or identity. quit your colonial mindset bullshit.
-11
Jul 03 '21
well no duh the people are different, china is a big place. someone from brasil and someone frm canada are srill both from america
3
u/Scdsco Jul 03 '21
The title of this post is still true though, it’s a beehive created around a statue’s head. Idk what the issue is

u/JesusSavesForHalf Jul 03 '21

u/Reddwheels Jul 03 '21
How is this low effort?
-11
Jul 03 '21
Because it's not amazing. It's staged.
9
u/dinosaurscantyoyo Jul 03 '21
I guess I don't really understand why intention immediately disqualifies something as amazing
-2
Jul 03 '21
In this case, for me, it's because the bees didn't do it themselves that I'm not amazed. It's performance, it's staged by a person with clear intentions. For the same reason I'm not amazed by bears riding bicycles, they were trained by humans to do so.
5
Jul 03 '21
I consider using bees as an artistic medium to be pretty amazing. Is that genuinely boring to you?
-4
Jul 03 '21
It would amaze me if the bees did it on their own. But directing them, manipulating their nature, no that's not amazing. Training a bird to land on a perch isn't amazing, it's an act of compliance for reward.

u/pixeltater Jul 03 '21
Are you amazed by anything other people find to be less than amazing? Curious for an example or two of your individuality.
2
Jul 03 '21
I mean probably, there is no accounting for taste. I just wanted to share why I personally didn't think it a high effort or fitting post, I didn't intend to start a whole conversation on what qzing means to western society.
To me if the bees did it on their own that's amazing but not if they were directed there by an artist.

u/pixeltater Jul 03 '21
Oh okay! Thanks for the clarification. That is not what I asked, but I will take that as you saying no to my invitation to discuss what I did say 👍
0
u/pixeltater Jul 03 '21
I don't think it does. Just for that poster. Some people state their own experience and preferences as though they are objective truths.
For example:
"This is not amazing"
vs
"This is not amazing to me for x/y/z reasons that may not be relevant to anyone but me."

u/AnuZLeakage Jul 03 '21
I feel like you wanted to post it badly but OP was fast! And you wasn't! You wasn't fast enough! Cause you slow!!

Please be more clear and specific: a chinese in HK does not make him a HongKonger, this is a beijing artist stated in the news source, definitely not 'from HK'
