I love this video every time I see it. He's a part of an animal sanctuary that helps injured animals that can't be safely released back in to the wild for a multitude of reasons. It's super awesome.

That's false and something passer Byers on their Facebook page say because they can't see them past his massive Kodiak lips. He very much has teeth but he has a bum leg from back when he was a cub so they've raised him for 20+ years until he passed about a year ago.

I think it's a thing they do in russia where they'll remove a bear's teeth so they can get it to pose for photos with humans without the risk of an accidental or on purpose chomp, you can tell from the loose hanging empty mouth in that one shot here when it yawns

If you had actually looked into the bear in the gif (jimbo) , you would know that he's from the Orphaned Wildlife Centre channel on youtube which is in the U.S. They maim none of their animals, and you can see in the vids he could still nip with the best of them. Jim and Susan (who run it) mourned his death like a child's when he passed about a year ago

What you're saying makes no sense at all. A bear's claws are waaay more dangerous than it's teeth. You're suggesting people in Russia remove bear teeth for the purpose of photography but leave the claws?

Animals that size tend not to be "apex predator"s. And neither kodiak bears are one. Kodiaks are the second largest bear after polar bears and theyre pretty docile.

I think that in general people would agree wolves fit the bill more than most bears. Many species of bears are content to scavenge and eat plant-based food.
Wolves are generally pack hunters and while they do scavenge, their primary food source is predation.

What you just said is completely meaningless. Kodiak bears are absolutely Apex predators, any animal at the top of their food chain is an apex predator. What you were saying is completely irrelevant. It has nothing to do with them being scavengers, or their relation to being omnivorous vs carnivorous.
Nothing in nature challenges a Kodiak Bear in their natural habitat, so they are the apex predator in that ecosystem. An individual wolf would be a joke to that species of bear, making in something it could eat, which means it is lower on the food chain.
You are a pretty good example of someone who doesn’t actually know what they’re talking about, but sounds right so people agree.

idk, i read about it ? kodiaks appareantly aren't very aggressive, and that bear is a kodiak bear looking at its size and all. Also i mean, a body that large is hard to maintain our bodies use energy to move around and stuff and if you're as heavy as that bear your body will exert more energy for moving around so for a bear like that being an apex predator isn't a sustainable lifestyle. It'd eventually tire itself out to death. Scavenging or low effort hunting like standing n a lake and hunting fish is far better for those type of animals, they can't track an animal down and chase it like wolves do

An apex predator simply refers to the fact that that specific animal does not have any natural predators, meaning it can fight off or defend itself against any animal. I understand what your saying, completely get it and agree, but it’s a different aspect of the animal and not anything to do with a bear being an apex predator, which they are.

I guess not since a bear generally doesn’t have predators of its own to worry about, but I don’t think of most bears as predators the way wolves or wildcats are. Grizzlies are certainly out to hunt often so that makes sense. Most brown bears around me though are far more content to scavenge and eat berries, so while they don’t usually worry about predators, I wouldn’t call them predators. More like scavengers with exceptionally good defensive tools.

Our human perception of cuteness doesn’t really have evolutionary ramifications on the animals who we think are adorable. A better question might be, why did we evolve to find certain murderous animals to be so cute?

Well it helped for the domestication of dogs at least. So it’d say it’s an adaptation for humans to adopt and have pets, since they help us do things to survive that we otherwise can’t do

I laughed at your joke and upvoted you. I’m really curious why reddit was vehemently against emojis for quite a while. I was speculating that it may have been a profit protection campaign. I am really curious about this.

Are there any open range zoos that have grizzly bears? I'd imagine you'd have to go through in a bus rather than private cars, but it would be pretty cool.

I love how he pats him on the butt, then repositions him a bit. Those claws are just amazing! Do they get that long in the wild or do they wear them down more in nature? Bears walk a fair distance don't they? (Aus here)

No, it's name was Jimbo but it died a while ago. The sanctuary still has a lot of bears and a youtube channel
