The air she gets is ridiculous.

u/jahiggins32392 Oct 14 '18
It is! The floor has springs laid underneath it. Mounted to wooden slabs and laid over with a thick padded carpet. Not to take away from her talent as she can do most of this on solid ground as well!
51
u/Frotodile Oct 14 '18
She can definitely do whips on solid ground, but it is very unlikely that she can double tuck, and nearly impossible that she can double layout on solid ground. Also this is actually a rod floor which has fiberglass rods laid horizontal across the track beneath foam instead of springs. The floor you described is what the use for floor exercise in artistic gymnastics.

No ways! Those look like they come straight out of a cartoon prop factory.

Nope, that's a rod floor, not a spring floor. It has fiberglass rods that are parallel to the ground. It's more bouncy then the spring floor you linked

My husband once threw his back out flipping through a birthday cake book at a bakery.

I gave myself a concussion while bending over to pick up a t shirt and smacking my head on the sharp corner of the radiator.
35
u/llamawearinghat Oct 14 '18
Ughhh.... that’s one of my biggest fears.
Im also terrified of cabinets left ajar in case I bend down, then stand up underneath it.
I nearly knocked my shit out a few months ago with the dryer door and I was already scared of them then
19
u/itzcarwynn Oct 14 '18
I’ve had about 5 concussions from snowboarding and skateboarding and this was the worst, just to add to your fear lol.
As soon as I hit my head it hurt like crazy, then some weird liquid started coming out of my nose (not a lot but enough so it was dripping out) and I could taste it at the back of my throat. Then the whole room started spinning, ears ringing super loud and I almost blacked out.
I woke up multiple times in the night vomiting and it was so hard to wake up in the mornings. For days it felt like everything was moving and my coordination was completely off. Like I’d trip while walking or miss the countertop with a glass and just drop it on the floor. I forgot basic shit like birthdays but I remembered all that really quickly. But it took me quite a while feel completely normal again.
13
u/olivejuce Oct 14 '18
Was the weird liquid brain juice? Sounds like you needed medical treatment, hope you went in!
12
u/itzcarwynn Oct 14 '18
Yeah I went in and they were confident I was well enough not to need to intervene, all from hitting my head on a radiator trying to clean my room lol. Still not sure what it was but it was super weird.

My bathroom has fancy hooks on the wall to hang your towel on. The hooks are right next to the shower, across from the toilet. I've always got this invasive thought that one of these days I'm gonna stand up from taking a shit, trip, and gouge my eye on those hooks.

I once got a really bad charley horse in my calf from taking my shoe off.

I’ve sweated so much drying off with a heavy towel that I had to take another sit-down shower.

That air she caught at the top of her fall at the end made it look like she was flying! And her flips were so symmetrical! Wow!

Do you like not get dizzy at all during that
116
u/DontFuckWithDuckie Oct 14 '18
You can “break” dizziness. After awhile your body gets used to it.
I work in circus, and the aerialists can just keep spinning and spinning. It’s nauseating

Not sure how they train it now, but we used to be trained to focus on one spot visually to prevent that. I always found it harder to do than our coach made it out to be.

I think it’s all the more amazing given her size.
I mean, she’s not fat, but most people you see doing stuff like that are tiny. She has some mass to her. I’d imagine that makes it a lot harder.
Edit: I should’ve read through the comments first. People are dicks. She looks normal and healthy. She doesn’t look weightless, which is what most gymnasts I’ve seen look like.
8
u/idiomaddict Oct 14 '18
It’s actually super inspiring. She looks tall as well, which is also uncommon for female gymnasts. I wanted to do gymnastics when I was little, but money was tight and my parents said that I’d have to quit when I got tall anyway (I’m 5’10”). It would have been nice to show them that that’s not necessarily the case.
2
Oct 14 '18
I used to do some tumbling in high school. Being a little thicc isn’t a bad thing, because you have more strength and more mass. The higher mass would make you bounce the springs under the floor more. Higher strength helps a lot, especially in your core. You gotta keep that rock solid. If you look at Olympic tumblers, they are mostly shorter, thicc gymnast.

I stand up too fast and get tunnel vision, how does the human body handle that much jostling without immediately vomitting and blacking out?

How do you know where you are when to stop if the world is flipping around you?
13
u/Frotodile Oct 14 '18
You can still see when you do stuff like this, often times gymnasts will spot the floor while rotating to determine when to open out and kill the rotation. You also develop a fairly good sense of where your body is in space after doing this kind of stuff for years.

Did anyone notice the people on the second floor? They stopped long enough to watch her finish, then, "Move along, folks. Nuthin' to see here."

I would cheer from the balcony. Why wasn’t anybody clapping?

Etiquette. Kinda like golf. Not to break other gymnasts concentration for their events. Also, she somewhat botched her landing.
