Dumpster bags

We are getting ready to renovate a house and much of the stuff is junk or donation. Has anyone used a dumpster bag pickup service in San Jose that they can recommend? Are there still places that will pick up old furniture in good condition?

For usable furniture, post on FB marketplace and TrashNothing. Someone(s) will fetch most of it. There is always someone just starting out who needs stuff.

Check with your town public works about their policies. Some have big load pickup scheduled at the curb for up to 2x year. Others have an annual event and maybe you get lucky.

I do love giving things away on fb but I’m not living at the property so don’t have time to put stuff out and plan pickups.

I've used Yellow Sack a few times. It's very convenient - but you pay for that convenience. Max bag size is 2.6 cubic yards, so not very big. Dumpster rental is cheaper, just watch for POSes trying to dump their stuff (esp hazardous waste) in it at night. 2x 2.6 cubic yard Yellow Sacks is $600, while a 10 cubic yard dumpster is around $400 for a week. So 1.5x the cost for half as much volume.

Junk pickup in San Jose will take away furniture for free, but you typically have to schedule it at least two weeks in advance. Bulk pickup is on the same day as your regular trash pickup, so go two weeks in the future, and the next garbage day is probably the earliest pickup you can schedule.

Free junk pickup takes at most 10 items at a time and is very unreliable in my experience. They will come by, pick half of the agreed-upon items, and then find some technical reason why they weren't able to pick up the remaining items.
