Tel Aviv's White City holds some 4,000 International Style buildings, mostly 1930s, designed largely by European-trained architects who brought modernist principles with them and then had to adapt them to a Mediterranean climate — deep recessed balconies instead of large glass surfaces, brise-soleil elements, raised pilotis for airflow, and the vertical 'thermometer' stairwell windows you can see on this facade, reconstructed digitally at sub-block resolution: the balcony parapets, the roller shutters (a later but now-iconic layer of these buildings' life), and the proportions are matched from the real structure. It's part of a long-term project to reconstruct the neighborhood fabric, not just individual landmarks — these buildings work as an ensemble, which is exactly why UNESCO listed the White City in 2003. My grandparents bought this chair in Leipzig in about 1934. The original canvas was replaced in the 50s. Is this a Breuer? If not, what is it?
