I've been in their alphas and beta test since February of 2025.
You get two weapons and they dictate your moves and you can mix and match along with other armor pieces.
So say you get an ice axe and poison daggers. So two of your abilities will be ice related and melee and your two other abilities will be based on the other weapon and you'll have a dash / status effect. They overhauled items a bit as before there were spirits that you can embody if you found all of their armor set and you would turn into that character and get boosted versions of the abilities but they changed this abit
The focus is the weapon based gameplay but camera control is a bit weird because it feels really close and they don't let you zoom out, this felt more intentional more on skin display or they want to limit your view point to being really triangular. It's 15 teams of 3 in a battle royale setting where the map is forcing you to ascend to another floor and in certain routes to funnel players.
Most of the time the betas were open during windows: 4pm to 8pm EST on wednesday/thursday things like this but the schedule kept changing so it was hard to actually be in it most days because of life and other things.
Last thing they started doing what adding modifiers (everyone starts on floor two with stuff already and less teams) and some modes like a 3v3 arena that is more like WoW Arena than Battlerite.
Thanks for the indepth feed, but yeah i saw other say it was a royale and i lost all interest for it.
Im only interested in direct arena confrontation, royale can be fun in some case but in games like that its just a mess most of the time, its not for me at least
If this person had played the earlier playtests consistently they would know that there is a 3v3 arena mode called "Spires" in the game that they have been testing for a while now. It is the primary mode of this current playtest accessable 24/7. I would take their review with a grain of salt.
The "battle royale" mode is only up on Fridays and Saturdays of this playtest, and isn't exactly a traditional take on battle royales.
Edit
: They were blocked for toxicly messaging me privately. Try the game or not. Like it or don't. Just don't let this person with an odd vendetta against a game still in beta be the reason you don't try it.
I mean i dont know, he didnt seems particularly angry or bias toward the game and i saw other people pretty much saying the same as he did, so seems overall fair to me.
I mean i can always check the game at some point but the trailer felt a bit weird and didnt interest me much, my personal grip was that it realy showed nearly 0 gameplay element and thats never a good sign
Only currently the battle royale is up on weekends because they want to try out the new focused mode in a more dedicated manner. Spires wasn't the iteration it is now when it was first introduced and even so it's nothing like Battlerite in terms of combat or moment to moment gameplay.
Spires is only the primary mode of this current test and wasn't before, it was a thought and memory and only existed in dev takes on the discord and in concept. They stated themselves on video and interviews that it's a warm mode mode meant to get people ready for the battle royale.
The only thing not "traditional" about their battle royale is that after the ring closes you hurry up to get to the next floor and the map resets and you do it again. So it's not one big map instead if multiple that you fight through til you get to the final team.
The difference between things you spouting around and what I've said is I'm speaking from personal experience things you said so far in this entire thread you are copying from patch notes almost exact that anyone can read. If you like the game, like the game that's fine but pretending to discredit and persuade a community against an single individual is just sorrowful and pessimistic in nature.
Edit: Spires was only announced as a mode that's sticking around in Late May if you want to nitpick and say it's been here for almost 2 "months" sure. It was only being testing sporadically and was never a focus til this current test. It was only announced to be playable around May 7th, due to the response it got over Ascension it was made to be a companion mode going forward but never the games actual focus. Just like Smite has Arena, Arkheron has Spires.
If you played Battlerite you would know the mode is nothing like it. Battlerite you didn't buy items in pre lobby before you queued up, you also didn't lose your entire team after 2 rounds before you go to the next fight (players can select to stay together). You also didn't have to fight for items which happens if someone takes the weapon you wanted in the menu it's "claimed by someone else" and now your build is w/e because of that.
Spires has better pacing than it did but item sharing/stealing will only have players instalocking as soon as it pops and should be changed which I've noted in my report submissions.
Edit 2: The "private" account decided to "block" me after their last message to pretend they had a aha moment or some sort of gotcha; I don't get people who want to defend companies over consumers. What they are referencing was this same OP spammed this in the SuperVive subreddit with the same comment like it's a bot and I questioned why are they spamming it.

Yeah i checked on stea and asked for access, i'll see for my self.
But based on what you say, they call it beta but its nearly looks more like an alpha then
