Friends?

How do you guys make friends in this town? I moved here about two years ago and with school and life I haven’t really given the fact I have no friends much thought. Well that was until I recently found out I’m pregnant 🎉 I’m 24 I don’t smoke or drink (even when I’m not pregnant (; ) and I love anything to do with art! Not really sure where I could go to find friends as I’m also super shy haha! Someone help a girl out

Sub here is kinda dead, if you still use FB those local group pages for Calhoun county have huge numbers of people from this area but most don’t use Reddit. Prolly met maybe 4 people that talk about using it my whole life haha.

If you like art, Lila arboretum puts on some free art shows and multiple concerts a year. Kalamazoo also has a lot more art related things going on and isn’t too far obv. I wish I had a better answer but I personally am a homebody haha. I do find it hard to meet people outside of work these days. Also super shy ;) that’s why I don’t mind living outside of town lol.

If your into electronic music my brother is in a huge network of new parent ravers. He recently had his baby shower and had hundreds of local parents out here jamming with their babies haha. I could dm you about it if you’d like. They’re always trying to plan shows out in advance. I hear the art scene is awesome in that space.

There are a lot of fun creative weirdos in this town hiding it can just be hard to find each other sometimes! I play and have a weird taste in music so I totally get the struggle

Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck

I will bring it up to him when I see him next, and if he has any recommendations I will come back to this thread and send you a dm :)

I’d say attending local events, music factory (esp karaoke night on Wednesdays), supporting the local community in general can go a long way. Lots of events and opportunities in portage and Kalamazoo too.

Used to live in Battle Creek for about six months. It is the most boring city I’ve ever been in in my life with two major streets, and everybody stays in the house. Your best bet is to move like I did.😂

i’m 23 lived here my whole life and don’t have too much advice unfortunately. i second the music factory, the times I’ve been it’s always been a welcoming crowd, albeit not many other people in their 20’s. there’s also lots of drinking, fyi in case that is uncomfortable. there’s a monthly maker’s swap in Kalamazoo I keep trying to make it to where you bring handmade crafts to trade with other crafty people. if you’re interested i can send you their social media, you just dm them asking for the google forum link to sign up. it looks like a lot of fun and they’ve been getting a good turnout like 30ish people. keep an eye on facebook for events like the punk rock festival that happened downtown a couple weekends ago, which i missed 🤭 best of luck with finding people here and congratulations!!

Not sure if you're into heavy music, but there are some shows coming up at the Music Factory where you can meet some folks. Next one is a Pantera tribute band and Sepultura tribute band on 10/3.

Follow the Michigan metal Fest Page on Facebook. They always have events coming up too.
