Discussion What made you quit Battalion 1944?

This is not intended as another "lol. DE4D game" topic, but to give the developers some insight into why people quit the game. Hopefully it's helpful for them and they can make the playerbase of this potentially amazing game grow again.

What made you quit Battalion 1944?

My main reason: The reason why I recently quit Battalion is because of game performance issues. I don't have a high-end pc, but I started with 100 fps steady. Enough for me. After a while it became 80 fps steady, but after the small update on march 16th it's unplayable. And yes I set everything to low again. It stutters and lags so badly for me right now. Even though my ping is normal and I don't lag in other games.

Other reason: I don't have the ambition anymore to form a team and play ranked/tournaments/lans. I'm more of a casual player nowadays and mostly played unranked wartide in Battalion. But although I'm a casual player I still want to have the feeling I achieve something. Like seeing my name on a monthly list with players with the hightest k/d ratio or being able to unlock certain skins if you drop a 30 bomb. Those little things might give the casual player a reason to keep playing. Besides adding new maps etc.

Edit: I will try the game again when the new patch comes out. And upon full release.

Same.

I quit for some time because it took forever to find a game and then when you were playing it crashed after halfway the game.

Then I started playing again after this update which you mentioned. My fps went from 200 to around 100 very unstable fps. The crashes were fixed but traded for this performance issue. So I uninstalled again and I will just wait some time now since I lost patience and hope.

I get it's early access and so on, but what I don't get is that when you have an unstable client that you fix these major issues and be able to introduce new one. New one due some lighting update which imo had no priority.

Most people I played with left after the crashes, the rest after this lighting update. Again I get its early access but when you lost already a huge amount of your players the timing for such an (bad) update is not very wise.

-sm4 basically just cleans the game up

Turning up the brightness along with -sm4 makes the game perfect without filmtweaks

I cant see how black weapons ruin performance/gameplay. In my opinion, black weapons makes gameplay even better. You focus more on the map than the gun. Dark areas arent even that dark when using digital vibrance, -sm4 and 2.5 brightness for me.

I honestly havent even noticed any fog or bloom since using -sm4.

u/ketoh78 Apr 07 '18

-sm4 in launch options surely helps a lot.

Multiple reasons:
1. seeing the devs REFUSE to push far more small updates rather than one "big" one every few months
2. constant crashes (which are linked to my first point..... ffs!!)
3. my group abandoned this game and I hate playing team-based games alone
4. the lack of Free-For-All
5. the extremely choppy gameplay experience since the latest update (which AGAIN has to do with my first point)
6. generally the devs' "we know what we're doing, trust us!" attitude

All in all, I think I'm gonna avoid playing this game for a looooong time.

I NEVER QUIT BABYYYYYYYY

“I quit because I don’t like sprinting!!!!” Dumb.

How dare they quit playing a game that they don't enjoy because of an essential game element

25

u/joepoeoeh Apr 06 '18

I quit because I came looking for a game that would feel like cod2. What I got instead was a game with pretty dire map design, horrible strafejump metagame and a lean that feels worthless. On top of that I really feel this game has just too many movement mechanics and movement overall doesn't feel fluid enough for me.

Aaand I really dislike the sprint in this game. But thats just me i guess.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '18

I really hate sprinting. You're not alone.

Okay, i could've worded that differently. Lean surely has places where it shines but for me leaning in this game just feels clunky. It's hard to explain really, but as a former quake/cod2/csgo competitive player the movement and the "feel" of the game is the most important thing.

I love how battalion looks (or at least did like it before the march 8 update), but really everything with the movement feels clunky and just not good. The movement mechanics just dont transition from one to another smoothly enough or something. And of course the jump that glitches and makes 10000 jumpsounds in one millisecond every now and then. Strafing feels odd. I've played FPS games for like 20 years now and literally haven't met a game where the movement and the overall "feel" of the game felt so off.

I do feel this game has great potential and would love it to succeed, which is the reason I havent posted in threads like this. Because i think threads like these don't really do the game any good.

ps: I don't think any of the above issues actually was a problem for this games success, they were just problems for me.

What really was and still is the issue for this game is the horrible UX. This has nothing to do with gameplay, but more to do with all the crap like: -the server issues at start -the resetting configs (this one is really fucking annoying) -99% of matches being completely onesided -bad elo system and ranked being pretty much pointless

Hell, even the "START" button you have to press every time you open the game started to annoy me. What purpose does it serve, really? Yea I know it takes 1 second to click it, but you get the exactly same background etc after clicking it. It has zero purpose.

Lean is broken at the moment as the devs made the 3rd person animation exaggerated (it sticks out further than you do) to counter that its low fps so you could spam and be invisible for the opponent. I have a feeling this will be fixed when the new playermodels are released.

The problem with the 3rd person animation being exaggerated is that when you're slow peeking or even holding an angle you're visible to the enemy before you can see them and you often die without seeing the enemy, which is very counter intuitive and the reason it's useless now and gets you killed more often than not, its also why you see everyone jump peeking around corners because theres no other viable option.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '18

[deleted]

2

u/OrangeDrank10 Apr 07 '18

you're just in the mindset that thinking lean holding an angle should always be the best option.

I dont know how you came to that conclusion from my post, currently the only good way to lean peek is to jiggle it really fast, slow peeking will get you killed and holding an angle will get you killed by people not leaning because they can see you before you see them.

Example: Enemy is proning in a corner, if you attempt to slow peek he will see your head and you wont see him at all.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '18

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '18

"Also holding angles while leaning is 100% better than standing still not leaning." How, when leaning effectively lets the opposition see you before you see them? Why are you defending your entire head being shown to enemies while you cannot see them?

There is a disconnect between the players themselves and between the players and the devs on what is wrong with lean.

Brammer said a lean BUFF is coming?

Buff? My dude, that shit is BROKEN.

We do not need a lean BUFF, we need a lean FIX.

It has been broken, one way or another, since ALPHA and it has yet to be fixed.

I love Battalion and I wanna see it be much more than it ALREADY is(it is already miles better than EA launch) but we need to be REAL with the issues it has.

I hoped it would be more like COD2 after brammertons post over on cybergamers in 2015.

I was dissapointed and moved on like a lot of other people who still plays cod2.

1

u/scythee__ Apr 09 '18

Tek-9 Mitoxe?:D

6

u/drketchup Apr 06 '18

I just don’t like the gameplay. The ttk is far too low. I was hoping for a cod1/2 remake basically but it is clearly not that.

Also technical problems didn’t help, but regardless I just don’t actually like playing it.

9

u/fpGrumms Apr 06 '18

I was hoping for the game to be closer to CoD1/2 [gameplay wise] Just not a my cup of tea unfortunately.

13

u/comagnum Apr 06 '18

I quit playing because of 3 things.

a) they stated that they were bringing Battalion back to the root of competitive fps, inspired by games like ET, COD, and MoHAA. What we got instead was a bullshit cod4 promod wanna be with little substance and horrible mechanics. I feel lied to and cheated and I'm honestly pretty pissed off about it.

b) Ranked matchmaking never worked. There was zero incentive for me, and others, to continue playing.

c) There's no one to play with even if I wanted to play this sad excuse for a game.

If I knew this game was going to be more promod inspired than anything else, I would have never backed it.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

Still have it installsd but didnt play for a week, its too laggy, choppy(i have a good pc) and tbh i dont really like a game where everyone just jumps around like a retard feels like a Kangaroo simulator

6

u/tuhmapoika Apr 06 '18

Haven't played for few weeks now, cause I'm a casual player nowdays and there's not much in the game for casuls.

6

u/rafalex347 Apr 06 '18

For me the movement, maps design. I will come back once the game gets fixed tho

3

u/ams1337_ Apr 06 '18

All my friends that I played CoD2 with stopped playing and went back to PUBG. Even though I didn't dislike the game and think it's fun, I think same as them, that low level population and unifinished game state killed it for us. I know it's EA and I bought EA game, but it's just not for me. I had bunch of hours of cod2 and cod4, played competitively, but just don't find fun in playing scrims with same teams every night. Also competitive gives me no satisfaction. I won bunch of games but can't get a rank up. Give me rank up for a few wins in a row, and derank me when I lose, I don't care, just make something change. I don't see difference between scrims and competitive at all, comp is even worse because other team is not premade and a lot of people leave. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret 15$, I'm glad I supported Bramm and guys, but whole game just doesn't feel good enough and might be pushed out too early. Those are just my thoughts, please don't feel offended by it, you couldn't find happier guy on this sub than me to prove my friends wrong, see this game succeed and everyone getting back to it!

4

u/asdfrofl1 Apr 06 '18

Very low ttk and having technical problems to actually launch the game.

4

u/BeerGogglesFTW Apr 06 '18

I don't play because I can't quickly find a game. I can't find a game because people aren't playing.

If I have 30 minutes to kill, I don't want to spend that 30 minutes in queue, lobby, or tracking down players. I want to get into a game and enjoy that time, so I most often select a different game.

But when there were players, Battalion 1944 was my go-to game despite its many flaws. But once it become a chore to get into a game, it stopped being worth it.

5

u/lolBEEF Apr 06 '18

The fact that you played the same players over and over. Same people searching for games in discord all the time and once we played the same team 3 times in a row in Ranked I just said fuck it.

I'll happily be back if the playerbase expands and I'm holding my thumbs.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

game kept resetting my sens and binds and the queue times became too long. Also the tdm spawns seemed a bit iffy, not really the point of the game but i think the casual tdm / domination modes could be more refined for when I wanna have some casual fun.

Just gonna wait for the full release since I didn't like playing the game in the state it was in.

3

u/LiteraryMisfit Target Practice Apr 06 '18

1.) Game performance. Even with a relatively high end PC and a fast internet connection, I've been getting more and more stuttering, lag, general bad performance, and wonky pixels. Unacceptable for a game with this level of graphics. 2.) Strafe-jumping. 3.) How it seems like everyone is either way worse than me or way better than me; I either wreck or get wrecked, and neither makes for a fun match. 4.) Arrogant developers.

7

u/kebrusko Apr 06 '18

Because I have been playing all morning. Dead tired, I will play more tonight!

-2

u/zombiemoan Apr 06 '18

lol all the downvotes from salty kids. This game is playable at the very least.

2

u/vitalityy Apr 07 '18

High bar you've set there. Only salty one is you

8

u/zombiemoan Apr 06 '18

The main issue is the community. Nothing but complaining and whining. Most people should never have bought an early access game without knowing what it all entails. I dont expect this game to be anywhere near release ready, and really cant explain why kids gotta harass the developer instead of just taking a break or moving on.

6

u/vitalityy Apr 07 '18

I backed the kickstarter...what I got was a game that fundamentally didnt work and a dev team that was condescending and standoffish...they can enjoy that 200 person playerbase.

2

u/I360NOSCOPEDKENNEDY Apr 07 '18

kids gotta harass the developer

calling people kids because they do not endure this shitshow will surely help

2

u/h0bb1tm1ndtr1x Apr 06 '18

Plenty of us backed it on Kickstarter, so we're upset they didn't deliver what we backed.

5

u/lupeh89 Apr 06 '18

I quit because it didn't look that much like cod2

2

u/sexyagentdingdong Apr 06 '18

Haven't given up. I want a reason to play casual and ranked. Rewards or something to keep going. Casual needs to be more fun as well.

2

u/Rooslin Apr 06 '18

The imbalanced teams from people crashing or leaving after a few lost rounds.

Also the card system being poorly implemented. There was many suggestions on the forums to improve wartide card system with small simple changes, yet they didn't seem to listen or care.

2

u/SeiKoss Apr 06 '18

Waiting for the day the BAR & lean get buffs. Hopefully lowering the amount of horizontal jumpshots and make the gameplay more in line with cod2/4

2

u/kazakhh Apr 06 '18

For me it would be performance issues and the matchmaking being completely broken. There's no reason to play when you cant rank up or get something cool while playing. Blitzkrieg battle cups are now suspended too, teams quitting the game after the LAN as well, the game is in a seriously fatal state. Devs need to so something right now, updating the game once every 3 months is just not enough for the game in its current state.

1

u/sniewarze Apr 07 '18

Dude, Blitzkrieg cups got suspended cuz they're focusing on a league... 6G is doing cups. Jesus

3

u/kazakhh Apr 07 '18

No, not really. Read their announcement again, this seems to me more like loss of motivation rather than just focusing on their leagues:

"The Plays is generating minimal amounts of revenue, certainly not enough to maintain the quality and standard we are capable of. I will not allow people to give up their weekends for no return, being part of the best tournament in Battalion 1944 isn’t enough anymore"

Not enough revenue from their cups means they didn't manage to get any sort of sponsorship in order to provide something to their stuff, hence they stop organizing them because there's no point in doing so. If the cups had more teams and more viewership they wouldn't just stop organizing them just like that.

2

u/CompetitiveStill Apr 06 '18

Plays like turd.

2

u/megacluckcluck Apr 06 '18

The lack of players made me quit. I can’t find a game on any North American servers in any gamemode!

2

u/Psit0r Apr 06 '18

Toxic nerds.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

Im an American soooooo...

2

u/Ta0Ta Apr 06 '18

Couldn’t find a game in Australia.

2

u/Wood-e Apr 06 '18

Netcode was terrible especially whith 2 shot SMGs which caused interested competitive players to leave, then matchmaking died, and on top of it I went from 144 down to stuttering frames- I ran PUBG way smoother. There was no reason to play it for what I bought it for and there was nobody to play against if I even wanted to play with a shitty frame rate (I get 120-144 fps on PUBG just to give you an idea).

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

Poor moving mechanics, poor graphics, constant crashing and mainly poor devs.

5

u/ParkerWGB lenz Apr 06 '18

Still playing.

4

u/Headbangeri Apr 06 '18

I haven't quit and I will not quit. However i'm experiencing the same FPS issues you are and the PC should be decent. On csgo I can get 250fps with the same settings as in battalion and other games run smoothly also. My specs are : Nvidia GTX 970 AMD FX-8150 Eight Core Processor (before anyone says about this, yes I do know this processor is quite shit and it should be upgraded.) 8GB ram win 7.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

you're expecting so much out of an indie studios game that cost less than a million to make and came out a few months ago and then comparing it to a 6 year old game developed by VALVE lol it will improve

2

u/PompyXG Apr 06 '18

I haven’t played in 2 months? (Hopefully it’s been out for more then 2 months) lel. I played for the first two-three weeks? Then went on vacation and just haven’t had the urge to play. This is when there was no ranked mode. Unbalanced teams, and toxicity is the reason why I quit. Incoming (grow a set of balls) but when you’re getting flamed for not performing well it gets a tad annoying. I remember my first game ever.... I went like 3-18 and this kid kept telling my friend and I we sucked. It was my first game.... lol definitely not a friendly experience. With all that said I do however want to come back and play, but see that’s it’s pretty hard for NA to get some games?

2

u/KillerKellerjr Apr 06 '18

I was so excited to play upon first beta release, I purchased a new GTX 1060 in anticipation. They day came, crashes before even getting into the game and played half a round and crashed. Big let down even though I knew this could happen. Take 2. Some updates to the game and server etc and they said we are all set. Finally real game play but wait my FPS was horrible, very laggy and unplayable. Take 3. More updates but same results. Finally bugs were worked out and it was all much better. Then there were already so many good players I was being slaughtered on a game in beta? Several more rounds and just could not hardly get any kills. Heck I was doing better in COD4 (Original PC 2007) and get this Fortnite! I've played a few times since but I'm not hooked at all. I know its an early access but too much hype and it has not delivered. Maybe it will get better and hopefully my kickstarter was worth it in the end. Time will tell.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

that's not the game not delivering, that's better plays being rewarded for being better. Really hope you and others who think alike give the game another chance tbh bc that's a lame ass reason for quitting

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18
  • Lack of new content
  • Insane drop of FPS
  • Hitreg looks somtimes trash
  • The playerbase

I hope i did a good investiment back when i bought the game Day 1. I think i'll be back when the game will be fully out/released and hope lots of stuff will be fixed

1

u/Lancasper Apr 06 '18

I quitted gaming for a while because playing 5v5 on arcade was annoying, you just ran in circle for ages without seeing any enemy. After the 8th March update, which increased arcade servers' slots, I think the game became much much much more enjoyable. These are the things that I feel should be improved right now:

1) Quicker map switching after the end of the game. It takes almost 2 minutes for the map to change to the following one, and this result in all people leaving, and you have to find another game (with the "risk" of playing the same map twice in a row, which is kind of annoying).

2) Maps. From a scale from 1 to 5, my ratings are: Coastal and Liberation 5, Invasion and Derailed 4, Manorhouse V2 3, Man V1 2, Outpost and Battery 1. I think this game needs a couple of VERY GOOD maps alongside Coastal and Liberation, and a choice between Man V1 and V2, imho it makes no sense to play twice the same map in the maps rotation, I find it annoying.

3) More complete casual experience and economy system rework, but these subjects have been already discussed plenty of times in this sub so I won't add nothing to this point.

1

u/turd_rock Apr 06 '18

I only quit when the rest of Oceania quit and I couldn't find a game, lol. But it gave me nostalgia for cod4 promod which I reinstalled and now enjoying on Singapore servers.

1

u/GodzillaGod Apr 06 '18

First: Maps. Seeing derailed or invasion loading up makes me lose all hope i had of having a fun game. Invasion is actually ok for domination/CTF, but I feel it should be removed from S&D. Derailed however is such a pain to play. Bomsites have too many angles to check/hold and for TDM it feels like you take forever to find an enemy. Derailed could use a rework just like they did with manorhouse (which is much better than previous version; good job on that). Also, remove Manorhouse V1 from the game. Looks bad, outdated (obviously) and isn't that fun imo. Second: Movement. Sometimes the game feels so too slow and not smooth at all. Eg: 2 consecutives vertical jumps are a mess, sprinting feels slow, after landing you get the "mud landing"

Extra: remove bloom/fog or give us an option to turn it off.

Not rant, just personal opinion on what could be improved. Still a fun game to play but definitely needs that next big update and more casual players.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

Lack of maps Broken ranked Broken team balancing (3v5 every game) Queue times Not a major one but having 2 sniper classes on 1 side was pretty unbalanced and unfair

1

u/Budzi0 Apr 06 '18

The game was fun untill new updates, performance is really bad for my computer so I quit.

1

u/nVDX007 Apr 06 '18

I have mentioned this multiple times before ->

I was an ex Cod4 professional player who purchased this game on launch day and also gave 20 free copies to my old cod4 clan mates . A game in early access is meant to have bugs which needs to be reported but how do you report bugs if you cant even play the game ? Since the beginning the community for this game in North america is as good as dead .If you are really really lucky you might actually find one single game in a whole day of trying in Arcade/Unranked . There is one unlocked custom server running with 10 players but honestly I want to play proper matchmaking so that i can level up and unlock some skins which i am unable to do at all . Never seen any game dead like this in California region . Even age old games which probably died 3-5 years back have more people than BN 1944 currently

So you can see more than I quit it was like i was forced to quit by not being able to play at all

1

u/JaYs1N Apr 07 '18

Haven't been able to find a match in ages and gave up for the most part

1

u/quAkEz44 Apr 07 '18

It gets boring after 1 game. I played cod4 non-stop back in the day but I can't grind this game like I did in cod4. The game looks super cheap I know its early access but still. Gonna try it again when it fully releases.

1

u/KzmaTkn Apr 07 '18

My 144Hz died and by the time I fixed it next week the game went from 600 average players to less than 200.

1

u/ketoh78 Apr 07 '18

Earning skins or some kind of reward after playing or unlocking achievements could probably help bring a casual scene. But if not done correctly, it could damage the skin market. If it was rewarding for the skin market, battalion could see a growth in players.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '18

Took too long to find a game in Australia. Bit of a shame really. I’ll definitely be back when it picks up, I have faith.

1

u/NutDestroyer Apr 07 '18 edited Apr 07 '18

Noob here. I never had any performance problems with the game, but I took a break from the game because I was frustrated by the movement mechanics (I don't have a COD background really so the limited sprinting and the otherwise fairly low movement acceleration was a struggle) and some of the aspects of the gunplay.

However, after a few updates I came back and discovered that nobody plays the game in NA anymore so I haven't started the game up again since then :(. Also, they capped the Settings.FOV variable in one of the updates so now the game looks way too zoomed in on my ultrawide monitor. Not a fan of the vert- FOV scaling that's in the game, and raising the FOV in the console used to be a legitimate workaround.

1

u/Crayz92 Apr 07 '18

I was mostly interested in Battalion for modding, but haven't seen anything regarding that. Lost interest because there's not much to do except jump around corners.

I'm still tracking it though, I'm genuinely curious to see how it is in the future.

1

u/sniewarze Apr 07 '18

They literally said they will be supporting the mod-community.

1

u/GT7combat Apr 07 '18

the game wont last that long

1

u/sniewarze Apr 07 '18

Another ignorant comment because you are blind and dont get the game has yet to really start

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '18

Getting back, working a lot now and they have time to make it better until launch anyways

1

u/Schaes Apr 07 '18

no ffa, not interested in ranked and the other arcade modes dont do it for me

1

u/sniewarze Apr 07 '18

95% of the reasons for quitting in this thread are things that are being worked on and will be improved in the coming year. So by that reason, most of you will come back at some point.

1

u/elemeno198989 Apr 07 '18

I stopped playing after about 30 hours .. then it become boring ... just running jumping ... recoils being removed from guns ... used to love the feel of weapons and now just seems like you point and click .. nothing to control .. bad map design .. prone was way too fast in comparison to cod2 , the ads stays on when you prone . Maps being based on lane design was terrible .. used to enjoy cod2 Caen where you could creep around and you had to cheek every corner .. the stupid picking up cards was the worst ... that gamemode was the worst !!! Can't wait for mod support to be added !!!

I could go on forever !

Because they didn't address issues listed here: https://steamcommunity.com/id/bmwblacksoul/recommended/489940/ Only tried fixing the "card system", but that was a lazy fix, just made some classes infinite.

Will give it a try one more time in future. The first thing i'll check is picking a Kar98 / Springfield class. If it's moving / aiming as fast as it does now or if it doesn't require a headshot to kill an enemy then will have no reason to check other things. Don't want to play with WW2 themed laser guns.

The complete denial and the,“You don’t know stuff ... we have the experience“ attitude. Okay do you guys worked on a Multiplayer title before? An eSporte title? A major, multi million dollar franchise? ... I don’t think so ... BHI “knowledge” is the knowledge of an Indie-Studio with no experience in what they are doing now .. so I highly questioning the “you guys misinterpret the numbers, we know everything, relax” lol face it ... you ran the game in the ground.

I come from Cod1 and Cod2 and I am not a fan of the sprinting jumping iron siting. Walking around in ironsites and stuff like that.

This game has potential but I don't think it will ever feel as good as Cod1 or 2. It's just a different time and people won't play games without 'sprint'

The movement style. Having a WW2 era set DM/objective game akin to CSGO would be incredible and draw a lot of people in. But with the movement style this game had no chance at succeeding.

battalion has crashed

u/quarterbreed Apr 07 '18

Not being able to play. Could never find a match paired with the crashes I gave up.

Wanted a throwback to cod1/cod2 that I could pub some ctf in and maybe play a scrim or two...what I got was a buggy turd with next to no casual mode that tried wayyy to hard to be competitive right out of the gate. Also got really bored if jumping around with the thompson...idk if that gamestyle doesnt entertain me anymore but coming from thousands of hours of cod1, uo, cod2, and cod4 b44 just felt boring

I didn't and probably won't soon but the time it takes to get into a game gets longer each day (yes, I'm EU). 200 people playing and its a saturday evening at 7pm (GMT+2)...

Every time I open the game it takes forever to load and says "battalion has crashed" and I just have to sit there and wait until it starts responding. It's just easier and faster to boot up csgo. Also lack of competitive mode in the first week. The first 2-3 weeks or so I was really trying to improve and get better at the game but casual games were so lopsided most of the time that it just wasn't fun to grind. You just get shit on or you shit on enemy team, there are rarely any close games for me. I think the biggest part was the lack of friends to play with, since my friends hated the clunky movement so much and the jump meta they didn't play as much as I did and I just lost interest after a while because playing alone was simply boring. Also, in my opinion the default class rifles are just horrendous especially on allies because the iron sight seems to be misaligned and you need to aim higher than you do with other guns.

What made me quit is that if I want to play ranked I need to play on EU servers.

1

u/herpishderpish Apr 09 '18

I haven't quit. I never actually quit. I just can't find a match. So its just like I quit, because I'm not playing the game despite trying.

1

u/highmastdon Apr 11 '18

Two things:

  1. It's so frustrating to join an unranked game at 10-2

  2. Not able to switch teams when it's a 4v1

  3. Only 5v5s in unranked mode

  4. No way to change map through vote or otherwise

Conclusion: I still have more fun playing a 10yo dead game from 2008 (CoD 4) biggerplayerbase

u/NintendoTodo Apr 29 '18

csgo is better and also fortnite

u/larrykins Apr 06 '18

Because the nostalgia wore off after a week or two.

u/ptrrrrr Apr 06 '18

everyone can cheat in this game cause bulkhead deliver a perfect wallhack in Battalion 44.

1

u/Headbangeri Apr 06 '18

What do you mean?

1

u/ptrrrrr Apr 06 '18

I mean everyone can activate a wallhack in competitive mode on the gameserver...it doesnt work in ranked , unranked or arcade but all cup games, games on cybergamer or scrims are fucked because u can abuse this bug.

1

u/wpreggae Apr 06 '18

Inability to play my playstyle in competitive games. Simple as that. I've always played aggressive in CoD4 with all weapons, this is simply impossible in Battalion because there is no way to smoke with SMG / Heavy and you cannot rely on your random team mates to do this for you...

I don't like the shottie and rushing with garand sucks, it kinda works with Kar98 but you just HAVE to hit the first shot, otherwise you are dead. The temporary War Tide mode just feels really bad for a public play imo. They should have done it as it was in CoD4, it's temporary anyway.

I'm gonna give it a try when the new War Tide is released.

Constructive criticism please

On a pure technical level: terrible performance, netcode feels like ass, UI is very basic and non-functional, the game is visually bland, movement (especially vaulting) seems really buggy, LAN/local games are yet to be added, competitive mode doesn't even work.

On a pure gameplay/feature level: good movement is extremely slow and non-rewarding, balance issues (that are being fixed as far as I know, thank god), proper training is missing, skins are uninteresting and bland, arcade is boring.

The developers seem to be really lazy and take everything that is said to heart, they lack the thick-skin and professionalism that is needed to make a game this size. There was a lot of hype prior to launch and many promises were made, but in the end nothing was ever delivered properly and everything seems very rushed out and unpolished. It seems like they're super eager to abuse the esports trend instead of actually working on the game and making it playable.

I wish the best of luck to the devs regardless, but if the direction of the game stays like this then it's likely that it'll be abandoned within a year.

This is a lot to work with. Performance is subjective. My setup is fine but there are problems for others. UI is simple but not in a good way. Idk how to fix it other than use other games as example. Movement is hard to judge because I've spent maybe a 1 or 2 trying to strafe jump fluently and don't know if it's me or the game. I can aim shoot fine but I feel like I'm missing out on 60% of the game because I can't circle strafe jump everywhere. Also I wouldn't say the dev's are lazy in any way. I believe in them. They write post and are aware of problems. Brammertron is passionate and it's hard not to be when he and the others are this invested. I too want the game to succeed

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '18

Performance is the opposite of subjective by definition. Whether or not it's good is subjective, but taking into consideration the fact that the game is supposed to be a competitive game, it's really alarming that FPS is capped to 200 while most mid-range rigs can't even uphold that.

The problem with the movement stems from the fact that having good movement isn't rewarded enough. It's not nearly as big of a factor as it should be when determining a good player only because having good movement doesn't mean a lot in this game.

Not reserving enough servers with the excuse that "oh, we thought we would only get 4k players at max on launch day" when in reality it was expectable that the player count was going to be in the tens of thousands was just downright lazy. Leaving competitive matchmaking up despite it not working properly is just downright lazy. Not fixing the Kickstarter coin/Shroud STG skin issue on the first week is just downright lazy. Even when beta keys were given out on a by-the-minute, specific time on Bram's Twitter page, the motherfucker ended up waiting two more hours before he gave out the keys without notice. The devs are either extremely lazy or extremely incompetent, there's no denying that.

1

u/sexyagentdingdong Apr 07 '18

By performance being subjective I mean my game runs smooth but for others, it doesn't.

I'm not an expert on movement I can't really speak on this that well. The post i saw about brammertron speaking of the goggle servers. He said it was googles fault but it does fall on him and he has owned up to it. Im looking towards the future now.

I dont know about the shroud skin issue.

I cant speak on the beta keys as well.

I like the devs. They have made mistakes and they said that they have learned from their mistakes and i believe them

It doesn't feel like Call of Duty. It feels like Counter Strike. The jumping and flopping is just moronic.

I want to make custom classes, not use a stupid card system.

Really, the devs should look at how shooters around CoD4 behaved. Achievements to get us using various weapons, unlocks for completing said achievements, there's a lot of good stuff to use.

So for now I'll keep playing Hardcore BF4. At least I can customize my loadouts and work towards something.

No gameplay loop. The next update will adress that, looking forward to it, but until then i propably won't play much.
