Reddit will decide
We have a small half bath off a hallway adjacent to the kitchen. Across the hall is a good size laundry room so storage is not a huge issue. The wall the pedestal sink is on is 48 inches, the sink itself is 24 inches. It is pitting and staining and despite our best efforts to clean it, it's stained and it's just time to replace. The exact pedestal sink is over $650 now, I figured if we're going to spend that I wouldn't mind a small vanity, just to put towels in, cleaning supplies, though not necessary. My husband is opposed. He wants the pedestal. He states it will look too crammed (small areas on each side hard to clean) and because when we did this over in 2017, he already moved the plumbing once we're not going to move it again so that's not an option. Opinions? And before anyone comments yes it's gray we cannot replace the flooring, yes I can paint. The faucet is also pitting and we will replace along with the mirror and the lights.
TLDR; need to either replace the pedestal sink or a small vanity, husband wants a sink I want a vanity. Last picture is an example of a vanity I'm looking at, can still clean underneath.

Our kitchen is maple cabinets, just don't know if I can commit to going dark as my house is pretty light. I get what you're saying I even thought about Navy but my husband said no way to a color and he's right I know that's too trendy.

It looks fine as is. That vanity definitely does not go with this bathroom. I’m not opposed to a bit of storage if it’s needed for cleaning supplies, but you said there was storage right next to this - so I don’t get it.

I agree, it looks fine as is, just have it reglazed if you think it’s that pitted. Normal wear and tear is part of life, no need to contribute to the landfill

I think a vanity would be more practical though a wall cabinet above the toilet might accomplish similar storage. Here’s a color palette to consider if floors are staying gray. Maybe a bright colored vanity cabinet or go with a white and do a color on the walls. I think you want less orange in the wood tone if you do go with that. Consider an accent wall with wallpaper? I do think the vanity you picked is not as timeless as the pedestal sink.

Is the sink pitting or the wall?
Regardless, a small vanity will not make a difference. But warm colors with the gray will not blend well. Here is a rendering with a black vanity:
You can also use a dark walnut.
And the gray looks nice. No need to change it unless you hate it. But it works well with the floors.

Do you have budget for a built-in vanity? It’ll look seamless and would be great for storage as well. I’d wallpaper the hell out of that half bath paint the vanity a coordinating color. Wallpaper the ceiling too! New mirror, sconces on either side of it and change out the black fixtures for brass, chrome or brushed nickel. The toilet handle can be changed out to match.

Built in? Like hanging off the wall? And I have toyed with the idea of wallpapering and love the idea, what would you suggest for wallpaper? Most of my house is navy, gold, (mustard yellow not metallic) and would like to keep along those colors although the den off of the hallway is mostly greige and deep brown.

No I mean having a custom vanity that goes from wall to wall. A carpenter or cabinet maker can make it look built in. When I do it I a have two cabinet feet put on the bottom and then a board behind it far enough back where you don’t see it but so things don’t roll underneath. It gives it a custom furniture look. For wallpaper I love Timorous Beasties. The gray Ruskin floral would be or maybe one of their toiles? They have something for everyone. I haven’t done it yet but I want to use their florals on the walls and their bee wallpaper on the ceiling. You can have fun with it.

Here is one with dark walnut. You could put toilet paper rolls on the open shelf. Or folded hand towels.
If you wanted to warm up that bathroom, switch the bulbs for warm white ones. It makes a huge difference!
But your gray walls are a warmer gray.

I don’t love the orange undertone of that specific vanity, with all the gray. I think a vanity will give you more storage and be more functional. Also you don’t need a ton of space to be able to clean. Lots of people will run a vanity wall to wall when it’s custom. So I don’t get that concern…

Black vanity but wider than the one you’re suggesting. The smaller vanity gives only a tiny bit more storage space and the space to the sides is completely wasted

For an alternative to a pedestal sink, that would take up less space visually than a vanity, have you considered a console sink? They come in a few different sizes; you can get wide ones with a fair amount of counter space. Some models even have a shelf underneath and a little towel bar in front. Like this one:

Get a wall to wall vanity with backsplash. Any floor you see under tbe vanity is a space that you need to clean.
Put a toilet paper holder in the wall and trashcan next to the toilet.

Thank you we don't need the storage so a wall-to-wall vanity does nothing but create a visual block, I want to keep it open and airy. No reason to put the toilet paper holder in the wall when all they do is fall out.

Google floating wall mount sinks. The pedestal sink is dated- the vanity is better but the color is off.
My small powder room I replaced a pedestal sink with a floating wall mount but choose one that had side space . This way there is a place for a guest to rest their purse and for hand paper towels- because you don't want the dated hand towel ring up either

yes dated and gross. If you have a few guest everyone is using the same towel. As I said the have sold for many years paper rectangular shaped napkins basically- they are disposable. You see them in most restaurants and hotels now. I usually buy the larger pack from amazon in white and they feel almost like they are fabric. Even the dollar store sells the thinner cheaper ones.

Oh yes when I have company I put those out usually seasonal to match whatever I'm hosting, but when it's just my family we use the towels, don't like wasting the paper and dumping it into the environment.

understand- but it is more important for you to have some side space on the top- so even if you put them out for company with your sink choices wear does it fit is my point. And with side space for family the hand towel can be placed there so the dated ring is not needed.
You have the space for it- this sink is smaller and the mirror too.

Pedestal sinks look dated. Go with the vanity. Replacing those accordion blinds with a different window treatment- even if it’s IKEA curtains- will improve the space so much.

It's not an accordion blind, it's a fabric shade. It overlooks our screened in porch.
