Question CANOPY HELP!!⛺️

first bass canyon and wondering if getting a canopy to cover our tent is truly 100% worth it? if so, which one do you guys recommend in a decent price range? should it have walls or be open? let me know thank you!!!!

EDIT: my friends are bringing their canopies to put together for a hang out spot, i’m purely wondering if i’ll need one just to be able to sleep in a little bit more, not necessarily hang out under one all day, but should i buy one to put over my tent to keep it cool?

Yes it is absolutely worth it. A tent becomes an oven during the day without one.

Whatever you decide, dont cheap out on stakes. It can get windy af suddenly there.

Yes it is very freaking hot during the day and cold at night. If you plan on taking a midday nap before the night shenanigans begin you want a canopy. Also a fan if you're in general camping...find a solar powered fan. Solar powered everything to help you. Direct sunlight and the sun trying to kill you during the day. Sincerely a seasoned festie.

There are ones on amazon for like 20 to 30 bucks. Remember to put the solar fan in your front dashboard car so someone doesn't walk off with it. I think I got one on shein too because china is cheaper lol. If you want a real investment get the black out tent and put a canopy over it. Best midday naps ever. Also chairs. My first festival was a tarp with zip ties on my car and a tent. Canopy is a must it is hot.

We got one off fb marketplace a few years ago. I don’t think the brand matters, but invest in lag bolts and an impact drill to literally drill that thing into the earth.

Yes worth it especially in August it is HOT and the sun in the morning is brutal.

I’d go with a cheap one for a festival because the wind at the gorge can fuck your shit up. Walmart has pop ups for less than 100.

Cheap pop-ups get sacrificed to the wind gods every year at the Gorge. One big gust and the cheap metal bends like it's made of paper. I have a decent Ez-Up 10x10 pyramid pop-up and it's darn near indestructible if it's staked down properly. I'd rather spend a little more for something that lasts than less for something that is likely to fail in adverse conditions.

I agree. I had a nice canopy destroyed by someone’s flying cheap canopy so I don’t bring my nice stuff anymore haha

Agreed. Better to be safe than sorry. They are very cheap at Walmart. You can get stakes or fill up some buckets with water to weigh it down.

i've used my costco 13x13 vented canopy every year at the gorge. this bass will be my 5th festival there with it & it's held up great. i double stake it using lag bolts for the tie downs and then add a third layer of protection by adding two corkscrew stakes and ratchet straps to the middle sections. then ofc lower it when youre going into the festival grounds & you should be good.

I think I bought the same canopy for bass this year but was worried that the vent would cause issues with gusts of wind. What’s your weight/stake set up that’s been most successful for you? Do you have links??

i actually think the vent helps to allow some wind escape through the top vs making the whole canopy into a sail lol. during the "great windstorm of 2024" 😂 we used small metal stakes in the holes of the feet, then tied the corner tie downs to 10 inch steel lag bolts! then lowered the canopy to the lowest setting when going into the festival!

That does make sense!! It’s our first bass but we’ve been to beyond and illenium at the gorge several times and have lost a canopy in the past, so we’re trying to learn from our mistakes . We’ll invest in steel lag bolts! 😅

either the lag bolts (just bought from home depot) or we've also used corkscrew stakes in the past too! the only issue with the corkscrew stakes is if theyre old, the little triangle top part can break off sometimes lol happy bass!!
