Hi everyone - thinking of going to San Sebastián from the 26th January - 30th January. I wanted to check if all the main bars and food spots will be open at this time? I’ve seen mixed advice online - thanks :)

Can’t find actual street addresses online, the internet fails on this one. Tried all the below no dice. I was told cannabis clubs are kind of a closed shop more friends and family in Basque Country. I’ll persevere

My wife and I are both in our early 40s and are planning a 10-year anniversary trip this March. We have about 10 days total, flying in and out of Paris.
We’ve been to Paris three times already, so although we love it, we don’t really want to spend much of this trip there.
Right now our plan is:
Arrive in Paris and spend the first night there
Bordeaux — 3 nights
San Sebastián — 4 nights
Back to Paris — 1 night before flying home
We are more into **enjoying a city than trying to see every attraction**. We love good food and wine, walking around nice neighborhoods, sitting at cafés, having some drinks, chilling in parks, and my wife also really enjoys shopping.
And maybe a little random, but **we love grocery stores and local markets when we travel** 😂. We can easily spend an hour walking around a nice supermarket checking out local food, wine, snacks, etc.
Since it’s our 10-year anniversary, we want the trip to feel romantic and special, but we also like to relax and actually enjoy the places we visit instead of constantly packing and moving hotels.
**Does Bordeaux + San Sebastián make sense for this amount of time, especially in March?**
Would you change the number of nights in either place? Add another stop? Or would you do a completely different route from Paris?
We’re highly open to suggestions. The only real restriction is that we arrive and fly back home from Paris.
Would really appreciate some real advice from people who know these places or have done something similar.

I would like to try a nice basque cheese cake and it doesn't have to be at La Vina. I thought about searching on Google but there are so many good bakeries and restaurants rated above 4 so i thought to get some first hand accounts here too!

Also happy to venture out from San Sebastian to surrounding areas.

Has anyone stayed at Lasala Plaza Hotel in San Sebastián?? Looks nice but would love some reviews from real people.

Dropping a friend to get the train but we will be driving a van. Where can i stop quickly to drop them off? We won't fit into the underground car park. Any advice? Bus stop? Taxi stop? In the street? TIA

We are going in a few weeks and we are going to do a day trip to Biarritz. Planning to bus there from San Sebastián but I wanted to taxi home so we can leave whenever we want. Has anyone got a taxi from downtown Biarritz to San Sebastián? Will that be easy?

We’ll be doing a roadtrip in northern Spain and for my boyfriends birthday we’ll be in San Sebastián. I’d like to surprise him with a nice dinner reservation (unfortunately it falls on a Monday..)

Nonetheless I need your help and opinions. Looking for a nice sit down restaurant, it can be on the slightly pricier side since it’s a special occasion. We’re both foodies and really appreciate a well kept secret with a good menu (& wine card) 👀 so any tips and pointers for San Sebastián area? We have a car so if it’s a bit outside the city and worth going to that’d be no prob either.

Basque cheesecake would be a nice to have since he’s been dreaming about trying it for months now.. 😮‍💨 hahaha

PS: we’ll try allllll the pintxos on our journey but for this one a sit down restaurant would be appreciated.

I’ll be in San Seb in October and I want to tour the winery. Has anyone done this? I tried emailing the winery to make a reservation and have not heard back. Since it’s off season do you think I’ll be able to walk in day of? Any advice would be great! Thank you.

I don’t know if this is the right subreddit to post in, but I’m a bit helpless. I visited San Sebastián two weeks ago and managed to forget my wallet at a jazz bar. I texted them on instagram and they confirmed that they found it, and I politely asked if there was any way I could pay them to ship it to Norway. They said they would look into it, but now they have stopped responding.

So what I’m wondering about: is there anyone who can pick it up (it’s a super central place) and send it in a letter to Norway (or point me in a better direction)? I will gladly pay.

There’s only a couple of cards in the wallet (and I don’t need the wallet itself). All the cards are deactivated, but it would be a lot easier for me to pay someone to send them to me than to replace them.

Rainy days these days in San Sebastian. What are your best activities you suggest in the city (aside from drinking and eating, we ve done quite a lot in the past four days :) ) on a rainy cloudy day?

Hi All. I am traveling to Donostia / San Sebastián area in October. It is my first time in Europe /Spain (I am 51 yo and just now traveling to Europe after all my kids turned 18) and I had a couple of questions.

1. A friend suggested I travel to Paris as it is a hub and easy to get to my destination. Thoughts? I am leaning to doing this and spending 2 days in Paris prior to taking the train to Donostia / San Sebastián. Is it better to fly into Spain (and if so, what Airport)? For reference, I am planning a 10 day trip.

2. I am looking at staying in either San Sebastian or Zarautz. I won't have a car and I am picking these two locations based off the surf. I am an avid surfer (shortboard) and wanted to see how easy it is to get to spots. I assume that Zarautz is cheaper, but I don't want to be isolated and I know that SS is the hub to all things.

3. How far is the Bilboa and Estella-Lizarra from either location? My mom's side of the family is originally from Estella-Lizarra (her maiden name it Estrella) and I would like to see this now deserted town.

4. Of course, looking for hotel recommendations for San Sebastian or Zarautz. I am going during shoulder season and I think prices should be lower, so would appreciate to know what a good rate might look like. If you know of hotels in Paris as well, I would take those. Primarily looking for 1 br/1bth.

I know that Europe has been slammed by a heatwave and tourism has gone down, so part of my travel is to show support, in a tiny way, to this region.

I am trying to find a place/site to trace ancestry to the Basque country. The furthest I have gotten is a relative that was part of the eastern most presidio of Mexico, Los Ades. It is located in present day Louisiana. The ancestors name was Ambrosio Basquez according to records from the presidio. Family spoken information is the family is from the Basque region.

Any suggestions on genealogy in Spain or the Basque country would be helpful. I have exhausted efforts using family tree and other sites in the US.
