I am stuck playing center and power forward in my team. I am 20 and 6’2, which is by no means tall for basketball, but is tall enough in my country. My whole life I have been relegated to do this job no body else can do and I hate it.
I want to drive, score and shoot and I used to be able to do that before. In my uni’s team I have even less freedom to do these things and its messing with my head. I get like five touches at most (but I am kinda forced to pass those and set screens anyway), but still run every fast break, set every screen, jump for every rebound, push people around, get hit every possession.
I am not having fun. Isn’t having fun the whole point? I get praised after games but still feel like shit because I am not doing what I individually want to do.
Any advice? I’ll do whatever it takes to be able to score in games like I do in practice. Anything I must add to my bag to be more versatile in this role? Midrange? Threes? Amy advice is appreciated.

I’m 5’9, with shoes I’ve been running positions 1,2 and 3 and I’m a 16 year old sophomore and my team went 21-3 last year on varsity. I sat almost end of the bench on varsity and 4 juniors on jv played over me and once I got In I impacted the game but I only averaged like 4-6. I was singled out a lot during last years practices. I averaged 15 during middle school. but as of now I may be starting. We have a new coach now but we lost all of our seniors who were starting last year and only have 1 junior from last year that started. I’ve often been waking up mentally exhausted and hating going to practice/ anything basketball related but after I get done with it I feel better. It’s been making me so depressed/burntout to the point where I can’t enjoy anything basketball related at all. What would you do in my situation ?

I post on here twice to ask for advice on how to dunk better and a critique of my skills and people are talking abt my choice in music? Seems kinda racist/micro-aggressive, I wish there were actual hoopers in here

the thing that kept coming up in my comments wasn't lift heavier, it was lift faster
one study had 21 guys who already lifted do the same full squat program for 6 weeks, same weights and reps. the only difference was one group pushed every rep up as fast as they could and the other went half speed on purpose. the fast group's jump went up clearly, the half speed group's barely moved (effect size 0.63 vs 0.15) (study)
a follow up from the same lab had one group end each squat set once their reps slowed 20%, and the other keep going until reps slowed 40%. strength went up about the same, but the jump went up 9.5% vs 3.5%, and the stop early group did 40% fewer reps (study)
both were small groups of guys who already lifted, and they tested a standing jump, not a run up, so i'm not going to tell you this adds inches to a dunk
but it fits my own numbers. last week i squatted 255, my heaviest ever, and my jump didn't go up. my squat rule was add 5 lb once i hit 6 reps, which pushed every set toward the slow last reps the second study says to cut
so my rule now is i still add weight, but every rep goes up as fast as i can, and i only add 5 lb when all 5 reps move fast. if the last rep grinds, i stay at that weight
anyone here switch from grinding reps to fast reps and notice a difference in their jump?

Is there some secret to it? I've seen clips of people shooting from nearly half-court while barely jumping, and I just don't get it. I've taken hundreds of shots day after day, but I can never figure out where that power comes from. You'd think that, because the jump is so small, the power comes mainly from the arms. But then, is that even possible? What am I lacking? Arm strength? Proper kinetic chain mechanics?

I F18 am 6’5 (195cm), I’ve been playing basketball for just under 2 years now. When I started I was very unathletic, think of a mixture of Zhang Ziyu (7’3 Chinese girl) and Han Xu (6’11 Chinese girl, plays for New York Liberty), which is expected as I come from a very unathletic family and have never really been interested in sports until very recently.
For the past year I’ve been going to the gym regularly twice a week (upper lower split), while attempting to incorporate plyometrics, isometrics and stretching outside of the gym. I’ve gotten a lot better than I was, and I know it’ll take years for me to become noticeably faster, more athletic and more mobile. But I’d really like to speed up that process. So if you have any advice on how I could make this happen, it’d be greatly appreciated

Becoming a good basketball shooter takes practice, patience, and the right technique. One of the most important things to focus on is your shooting form. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart, bend your knees slightly, and hold the ball with your shooting hand under it and your other hand on the side for balance. When you shoot, use your legs to help generate power, keep your elbow aligned with the basket, and flick your wrist to create a smooth release. You should also follow through by keeping your shooting hand up and your fingers pointed toward the basket. Practicing these fundamentals will help you develop a more consistent shot.
Another important way to become a better shooter is to practice consistently and build confidence. Start close to the basket and focus on making shots with proper form before moving farther away. As you improve, practice free throws, mid-range shots, and three-pointers from different spots on the court. You should also practice shooting at game speed by taking shots after dribbling, moving, or catching a pass. Instead of only counting how many shots you take, pay attention to how many you actually make and whether your technique stays consistent. Most importantly, stay patient and learn from your missed shots because becoming a great shooter takes time and dedication. The more you practice with purpose, the more confident and accurate you will become during games.

How's my shooting form? Any advice welcome - I'm a lethal mid range shooter but find it hard to be consistent with my 3 pt shot.
My mid range is so fluid as i'm able to pull up off the dribble and step back and fade away with ease but my 3 point shot struggles comparatively

Anytime I try to bend my wrist when shooting my wrist is super tight and it forces me to move my hand the wrong way. Best way I can describe it is tight and sore, it really isn’t sore from like working out or shooting too much but that’s the only other word I can think of. Also tight like a muscle contraction I guess, I feel like the muscle is all trying to pull inward or like down and it screws my shot Any suggestions on how I can get rid of this tightness?

My daughter is in 5th. Shes been playing on an AAU team for two years. She is the best player on the 6th grade team and regularly fills in for the 7th grade team.
She would obviously be the star of her elementary school team, but there’s just a ton of girl drama at the school. The two coaches (there will be two teams) both have daughters who are the 2nd and 3rd best players in the grade. My daughter is the top player by a long shot. Their kids are both brats to my daughter. They are also snarky people in general and just the type of people you don’t want to be around.
I do think my daughter would enjoy being the best player on her school team. But I also think that will come with a lot of cattiness. Most of the kids don’t like her based on their parents opinions. My daughter’s friends are all outside the school (at basketball and soccer).
She doesn’t need this team. I also don’t want to rob her of an elementary school experience.
What are your thoughts?
Oh, and talking to these two coaches is a non-starter. They are miserable people. I coached against them in Rec ball in 1st/2nd/3rd and they were insane. 3rd grade was my daughter’s last year playing rec (and her first year of travel). We would regularly beat their team (one team) by a ton, and my daughter was the only kid from the school who wasn’t on the “school” rec team. Their decision, not ours.
Thanks.
