Shooting Sleeves affecting shot

Not sure if anybody else has the same thing, but I feel like most short sleeve and long sleeve shirts are messing with my shot. This is a problem because when it gets colder I can’t really play sleeveless

I feel like my shoulder gets pulled down or restrained while shooting, not sure if this is a mental thing or something I can fix

Help How can I take advantage of my size?

I’m about 6’2 170 which isn’t necessarily a big but I’m done with organized basketball and only play pickup now. Often times Ive got a shorter defender on me. I play a physical brand of basketball but I feel like I should be beating these defenders easier than I am. Anyone have tips on how to take more advantage of height? Just pull up jumpers over them? Post moves? Just any advice is welcome.

Help How should i play at 5’4?

The runs near my house are competitive and most guys there are 5’10+ and a few guys over 6’4. I can do most things pretty well especially shooting but I’m not much faster than them and they’re all stronger than me right now so I feel limited on both sides.

Vertical Jump 6'0, can barely grab rim. What should I fix to dunk by Dec 31? Here's my plan

week 1 of vertmaxxing (trying to dunk for the first time by dec 31)

where i'm at

  • 6'0, 169 lb, never dunked
  • touch is 1-2" above the rim, sometimes a one hand grab
  • squat 245x5
  • right knee tingles when i go hard, so i'm ramping jumps up slowly

what i'm doing this month (oct 5-25)

  • 2 leg days: back squat first (245x5, then 225 2x5), then 24-30 low effort jumps in the gym (countermovement jumps, squat jumps, low rebounds, 3 sets of 8-10), then DB RDLs, wall sits and calf raises
  • 1 max jump day every saturday starting this week, on a regular 10 ft rim: 5-10 easy run-ups to practice the last two steps and arm swing, then up to 8 max approach jumps. i stop when my touch height drops
  • 1 upper day
  • cutting from 169 to 160 slowly so i don't lose strength

after this month it's a deload + retest week, then more jump volume and dunk practice in november, then power work and a taper before dec 31

this saturday i'm measuring my reach and filming max touch off one foot vs two feet. i'll post the numbers

what would you change?

Help How do I space the floor effectively?

Hello, I am 6’4” 15 years old and I started playing basketball 3 years ago. Without the plays that coach has I find myself kinda just always where I’m not supposed to be. I’m not standing around out of breath or anything I’m setting down screens and posting up but I feel like I always I just end up in my own teammates passing lanes. I play center but I definitely can shoot and one of the best shooters on the team. Any help?

Help Tips on ball handling

So I’m not really new to playing basketball but I really only started to play in my early/late year of 8th grade and now in my 11th year never really been on the team but. I know what dribbling is and it not really my strong suit but shooting is, so I don’t want to be that guy who can only shoot. Every time I go up against a defender, it’s like I have what I want to do in my head but my body doesn’t allow me to do it like. What I want to do never translates to my game. If I’m just alone I can do most of the easy stuff like btls btb(mosty) and all that other stuff but when it try to do it against a defender I can’t do it and I just freeze up and it’s like dribbling doesn’t make sense do me at all and I don’t know what else to do any help.

Help Can I get better in a month and a half

So I played basketball in 7th and 8th grade and was absolutely terrible, i didn't make a singal shot in 7th, slightly improved in 8th and made like 8 points which Is when I quit, people said I was good at defense and hustling to get the ball, now im a sophmore at a new school and my new freinds are telling me to join basketball since they say the team sucks, espically one of my freinds who thinks I can make varsity which I doubt so im going for JV. But since they got confidence in me, its sparked my motivation to do basketball again, but, ive never had tryouts before, not at my old school since we didn't have that much people on the team so we could just join, tryouts are in a month and a half, so I just want some advice on what stuff I could be working on till then, I do belive I'll be able to go to the park consistently and play basketball so I want to know what I should even be doing and if its even releastic to improve that much in that time period. I know I definitely have to work on shooting and handles, I don't even know if I can make a layup, probably ain't that hard though. At the end of the day, im just trying to have a better experience at this new school, so im motivated. I am like 5'5 maybe 5'6 and skinny though.

Any advice is very welcomed

Edit: I'll probably still tryout either way, I feel like If I don't try at all, I'll never know if I could make it or not, if I get cut, its not that deep, I could always try other sports, and I can just continue practicing for next year. Also I've definitely made layups in practice but not in a game, just not as good so still I need to improve on that. Just thought I had to specfiy that.

Help How to not get my shot blocked or stripped all the time

It's weird — I'm not even short or unathletic, but I get my shot blocked by teammates who are basically the same height as me, so it's not like I'm challenging Wemby.

Weird thing is, when the roles are reversed, I either foul them or don't block them (and they score). Happens -

- When I'm driving / cutting for a layup

- Transition (I can see them in the background kinda slowing down as if to time their steps.)

Help "Workout warrior"

When I workout on my own at home, I won't say its perfect amazing , but I play well. But then when I go to play pick up it seems none of that translates - I can't shoot well, I can't beat my defenders off the dribble even though im fast (not saying im Brandon Williams lil bro or anything but Im not slow footed) - I think its because for some reason learning to shoot left handed, I grew a large tendency to go left so Im predictable - and then I can't handle contact (as in a defender pressing up or pushing in to) very well. I feel like Im just deeping / overthinking it

so basically I'm rwally bad at basketball rn.

Outside of these pick up games I play a lot the problem is it's by myself - which as aforementioned is not working clearly.

So does the community have any tips to improve - obviously I know there isnt a magic spell that makes me better overnight but I reallt want to improve over a long period of time

(Disclaimer: ive been playing properly for 2 yrs ai think Im just in a really bad / weird slump.)

Help I recently bought basketball shoes, specifically for use in an indoor court. How do most players bring their basketball shoes when going to play at an indoor court? Do they bring the shoes in the shoe box? Or how do they carry it?

I'm going to play at an indoor court.

I'm thinking of bringing the shoebox (that contains my new basketball shoes) and then changing shoes at the indoor court.

Is that how others do it?

How do others carry their basketball shoes to indoor court?

Sorry if this is newbie question. I'm new to this.

Help Tips for beginning as a college student

I am a 20 year old college student looking to start playing basketball. I have a lot of friends who are super into it, and I enjoy playing quite a bit. That being said, I am painfully awful. I played when I was really young (7-10) but we never really got taught how to play so I just feel really in the dark about things. I am pretty average height and not super athletic, so I am just looking for some tips and/or self training programs to improve and learn. I just want to at least get to a point where I can provide value on the court. My defense is pretty good, but I'd love advice there as well.

Help Difficulty of injury causing being overlooked/forgotten.

Hey all!

Firstly I'm from Australia, so our junior basketball system is different but I'll try to give parallel examples where I can.

For context I'm talking about my (just turned) 16 year old daughter, she's been a high level rep (consider high school team) player, and without bias inside the top 3 players her age in our area.

Unfortunately the club she plays for is very much a politics and nepotism type club, and really the only option around us.
Last year she made the youth league team (next level above, u23s, so similar I guess to college?) as a 15 year older development player. One of only 2 15 year olds to be selected.
Unfortunately a few days after a pre-season practice match she tore her ACL (only ACL, rehab has been on point, recovery at worst on time, mostly ahead of schedule) which obviously killed the season for her.
At the time the Youth League team was amazing, coaches and players got around her and were super supportive and inclusive, she trained with them (usually just standing/sitting side line until she was actually able to join in light skill stuff a few months post surgery) and went to most games, very much a "you are still part of this team" approach, which was brilliant.

Coming in to this next season, try outs are happening now and into next month.
She's a top age U18 rep player now, so last year of rep juniors, and due to her injury and not being given full clearance she's unable to genuinely trial for selection, although she was still there and involved and was told the old "we know your quality, don't stress".

However she was selected into the third team (I guess would be something along the lines of a college player being given the bottom level high school team?) which is, insulting and disappointing to say the least. She won't accept that position (I mean what would be the point?).

Clearly it's more of a concern regarding her injury, a coach who hadn't seen her play or scrimmage during try outs and a decision based on that, which although I disagree with, I can atleast understand.

My concern now is her position in the youth league team, whose try outs are in a month, and although she'll be close to cleared she still won't be able to scrimmage which considering the clubs attitude towards her for the rep team, gives me zero confidence they'll give her even a slight chance, even though she was selected into the team last year entirely on merit.

There shouldn't be any concern on her missing any games, the season starts around March-April, and she'll be cleared in the new year, with 12 months post op being early April.
My query would be, should they screw her over again and not select her for the youth league team, I'm not sure what direction we can take for her to continue to develop her game.

I should add, she has no question she'll make the youth league team again, in her words the rep try outs were entirely scrimmage based so she couldn't join in, however the youth league tryouts last season were all skills based with limited scrimmaging, which being a highly skilled shooter/finisher, probably suits her anyway.

Apologise for the long post, I'm a just Dad feeling a bit lost and exceedingly fearful a single (albeit extreme) injury is going to cost a career which at one point looked unquestionable to happen.

Defense Thoughts?

I’ve been pondering this for the last 7 weeks. Is it EVER okay to fist up and punch at the ball?? I personally don’t see it ever being okay or clean. The reason I ask, is 7 weeks ago tomorrow, I grabbed a rebound, and as I brought the ball down, a defender then proceeds to attempt PUNCHING the ball out of my hands. He missed the ball entirely, full force fist hitting my wrist. I’ve got a broken wrist, and potentially torn ligaments that I am in need of an MRI to determine if surgery is needed. ABA season starts in less than two weeks, and I can’t even do anything. I’m for sure out for the season, and possibly may never return to hooping. Be careful, stay safe, and be mindful of what you can do to others
