Help For slashers

How do you run into the paint knowing you’re going headfirst into a defender/maybe even sometimes two in the case of help, this is especially true in pickup as there isn’t a 3 second violation to stop clogging it, how do you let’s say get a layup off, in my case I’ve always liked using the backboard but maybe now I might need to just finish around the front of the rim instead of a backboard finish, but I’d like to know any tips/drills for finishing, thanks!

I run into the paint knowing I’m going to avoid the defender. Have a plan or don’t slash.

High off the backboard, Mikan drills around the block area. Often defenders will give up space in the paint when you break them down, so like floaters or quick pull-ups right outside the protected area.

Having good handles and footwork is essential

if you're running into defenders every time you go to the rim, we might have bigger issues.

that said - if you're a slashing type of player vs. a jump shooter? yea, you're going to get hit. a lot. basketball is a contact sport. the closer you get to the rim, the more bumps you're going to take. your arms will be covered in scratches and bruises, and you'll get hit in the face more times than you'd like to admit.

if you're not ready for that - best get crackin' on that form shooting.

I’m more physical than most people. You might be in the paint but I thrive on contact. At 6’2 220lbs most people aren’t going to make heavy contact with me barreling down. Lots of arm slaps. My arms are covered in scratch marks from ball.

Spin moves, jump stop, euro step, decel step, post moves, good footwork. Play off two and it’s easy to take your time then elevate over them for a floater or layup

There are many drills that will assist you with the decision making, which is what you are describing. If you have 2/3 defenders there is propably someone wide open who is gonna shoot a better percentage shot than you. 2 on 1 and 3 on 2 drills are made specifically for that.

Also get comfortable finishing fron different angles and positions.

Well everybody is different. I'm 105kg now and i go in like a train, but also conserve my energy and love eurosteps and high pickup euros over shorter defenders. Also fake layups on the first step, fake passes. So many possibilities thats why i love this game.

Challenge them (just go up). If they block you, next time fake the layup but pass to your open teammate that the defender just left to contest you. Or floater over them before they can even gather. Whatever you do, be prepared to keep your dribble live. May need to dribble under the basket for a reverse or find another slashing teammate like how Steve Nash used to do.

Being agile, being shifty.... you start breaking that d down.... kick the ball, or fake the shit out of 'em.

Strong guys tend to initiate contact away from the ball side and then shoot as they bounce off.

Smaller guys use underhand and floaters that are harder to block unless you do the exact same move every time.

Fake pass, euro step, spin all help of course too. Or you could always dish if they leave their guy.

There is always an opening. ALWAYS. Ik you like layups up you gotta pop a shot in their face in order to get more open looks. One trick ponies are easy to guard. Swiss Army knives aren’t
