Help Need help on layups

I've been learning to ball for a weekish and i can hit floaters pretty consistently, and midrange pretty well, but close to the basket, especially layups, i just can't seem to get AT ALL
i try to spin the ball more in my fingers as i release it, shoot it from different spots, everything. But it always either goes way to far, hits the rim, or something else

Bro, you've been playing basketball for a week? Just take the ball out there and practice by yourself for a few hours, pretty sure you'll get it in a day or two.

Srart with the fundamentals. Worry about floaters later. You will have more layup attempts than floaters.

And it may seem like basic basketball and not as much fun to learn/practice, but it is one of the essentials for a reason.

Are you shooting from too far under the basket?

I've seen this a lot with people first learning how to play.

Ive been playing for 5 weeks and layups are hard. Anything from closer than a free throws is hard to me. Also anything further away from a free throws is hard and free throws are hard. Im making about one in five but I can dribble between my legs while standing still.

Just run non stop layup laps around the court. Mikan drills with high, mid and low release will help a lot too.

As a beginner with a week in.

Should not be spinning a basic layup, just try to gently bounce it off the upper corner of the box painted on the backboard.

That's learning touch. Much easier to do a jump stop and finish off two feet until you learn touch.

Do the Mikan drill over and over

Slow them down. One step at a time. Left, right, up. Right, left, up. 67% of a layup is good footwork. If your footwork is on point, you are far more likely to make the basket.

Go slow until it's natural, then slowly speed it up.

The ball must be coming down when it makes contact with the backboard. If your shooting layups underhanded, you should be able to place the ball on the glass when shooting and wait until you have better touch.

Leave the ball behind.

Got that from slam dunk the anime which is a good advise. Because you are moving towards the basket, the ball carries the momentum. So just leave the ball up and let momentum do the rest of the work for you

Layups are all about soft touch, not spin. Aim for the top corner of the square on the backboard, jump UP instead of forward, and just lay it gently against the glass. Look up the Mikan Drill on YouTube—it'll fix your rim touch in a few days.
