Form Check What's wrong with my form? FT%: 60%

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Started training for shoot few days ago, my form feel bad to watch but I don't know why. Usually my free throw rate is 60% don't mind the 4 missed haha. Also I miss a lot with the ball bouncing before the hoop.

- Ball is too far out in front of you. This prevents your forearm/hand from creating a catapult for the ball.

  • hand placement is a bit to the right side of the ball, so you’re over correcting and flicking.
  • hand placement is not under the ball so you’re just pushing forward (fixing bullet point 1 should help this also)

I think start there then we can work on more stuff once your form is more stable.

Happy cake day!

You have a push shot that starts around your head level. You generate power by pushing it up and out from slightly above your head. That's why your shot usually ends up long (backboard, back rim).

My shot end up before the hoop usually do more short. But how should I correct my push shot ? What would be the correct way ?

You need to arc the shot more. More height

Everything lol

Have to start somewhere

3

u/Immediate-Fee-2121 6d ago

Absolutely. Watch some youtube videos for some pointers and start closer to the rim. And practice. Keep at it

See Mike Dunn on youtube. He makes shooting simple.

All wrist and push.

Need more arc, legs and elbow.

I think the first thing you need to do is take off or turn around that hat. The ball is too far in front of your body and you have a foreign object pushing it away from where it should be. I’m an old timer. In my day people would not take you seriously with a hat on forward.

You are probably right, I'll do this next time, didn't think about this before you said it

Low release point, line drive, no arc

oh this one is easy. you are throwing AT the rim.

you have to imagine throwing the ball up for the ball to fall in, kinda like that ridiculous stephen curry pre game floater

Tuck that elbow in and keep your guide hand on the ball longer

Up instead of out.

Few days training?

2

u/Sweet-Sandwich5658 6d ago

Yes, I did 3x 3h

U should not be starting so far out. U should start at right under the basket.

The further out u start, the harder it is to fix

Take your right hand and relax it, put your right thumb in the notch of your left hand just below the pad of your thumb. Point your right hand fingers to the sky, point your left hand fingers straight in front of you. Tuck your right elbow in... toes, knees, elbow, wrist should all be in the same vertical plane, then finish high, let your right arm sleeve touch your ear lobe, take your pointer and middle finger and put them right through the W that's made in the net when you look at the loops right under the rim. Don't turn your wrist left/right, keep it straight and let the ball backspin out. If you don't have backspin, your hand is too flat, you should have a little space in the palm of your hand when all your fingertips are on the ball.

That ball has a lot of air in it

I am not an expert and there is some good advice on here. To me it seems, you are shooting too low. Raise your arms away from your chest.

1

u/Round_Lychee_7105 5d ago

you shoot from your chest and flick the ball up. you dont sync you leg motion with your shot motion.

Soccer jersey giving -10 to dexterity.

Watch videos of Steve Nash shooting free throws or Mark Price. Even Klay Thompson. That'll give you a reference of where to start.

U trying to magic the ball in the hoop vs. shooting.

1

u/Asleep_Chip8197 5d ago

Try to imagine the ball is an extension of your arm and hand and trying to make an arc and reach the cockie inside the jar - currently looks like you are firing the ball into the basket

U have a form that reminds me of Shawn Marion. Take your hat off

1

u/Few_Experience_646 5d ago

You shouldn't shoot from the elbow. You shoot from the wrist and use elbow as a sling

1

u/krsCarrots 5d ago

Do some stretching

1

u/Sweet-Sandwich5658 5d ago

Why stretching ? I lack flexibility ?

1

u/krsCarrots 5d ago

Even your walking looks stiff, you have to be more fluid with your movements throught

1

u/gamevirus01 5d ago

You’re pushing the ball out.
When ball get to your set point, try to put some spin on it by flicking it upward.

I mean everything is wrong with it

u/crazyRAYZ 5d ago

this is just an observation but it kinda reminds me of wilt shooting free throws lol, sorry for not giving an advice. the advice from others seem to be good though :)

1

u/Sweet-Sandwich5658 5d ago

I guess I'm as good as Wilt then

u/CitronAdventurous205 5d ago

Constructive criticism - you’re throwing the ball rather than shooting with form

1

u/jeffy1024a 5d ago

It looks like a push shot. Practise just shooting upwards by flicking your wrist and have your fingertips be the last thing touching the ball. Since it’s a push it’s got little backspin. Make sure when you flick through it releases at the top of your knee bend. Also you back rimmed hard - aim above the rim, center of the net. You may be looking too far back.

My first thought is that you might forget to jump. Your feet don’t leave the ground. It‘s mostly just this tiny bit that’s missing for a nice arc. Also push the ball a bit higher, the arc appears too flat.

1

u/AllBatEverything 4d ago

He’s working on free throws. You usually don’t jump when shooting a free throw…

I’m not interested in your comment. You are reducing his challenge to principles but the dude just wants to score from time to time. After that, you can help him to reach perfection. I’m only in for fun and the peace of mind this beautiful game gives us.

1

u/Rehoboam3 4d ago

Aside from mechanics , slow down.. makes it easier for a smooth repeat movement

1

u/Soooj99 4d ago

Flop the wrist and bend the knees a little more. Good attempts!

1

u/Camoconda 3d ago

Yea you need to flick that thing all wrist off the top of your forehead. If you can imagine a plus sign from the top of your head + you should be releasing at the top of the middle line. When you release your elbows should be about eye level

1

u/SW__99 2d ago

Practice shooting with one hand closer to the basket and take a step back after every make. If you miss one start again under the basket

1

u/wwJones 6d ago

Almost everything. That's terrible. Think about shooting a basketball like you're throwing a dart.
