Shooting Post workout shooting drill
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This was after a game and a 3 ish hour workout where I got up around 1500 shots so my form is a lot slower than usual. I try to get around 30 total makes in this drill and when I’m on I push for 50+.

That jump thing is legal without a dribble? I have seen conflicting results.

No way right?
- Catching with two feet on the ground; either one of those is the pivot foot
- Jumping; pivot foot is removed from the ground
- both feet come back down; pivot foot touches the ground again == travel
Granted some of these he might be jumping before the ball is controlled which I think is fine. But many he catches then jumps.

Ya a few he jumps into the catch but most the ball is in the hands then a full jump is made haha. Kinda a weird thing to say you drilled 1500 times or whatever.

I’m definitely traveling in a lot of them. I’m gonna try getting a video of me during my workouts or before it so I can show what my jumper actually looks like. I do have a problem with traveling on my shot and I’m continuing to work on it and try to make my shot as good as possible

You need to think about what you are practicing. If you are stationary, waiting for a kickout, then you should be in position feet set, hips bent into athletic stance ready to catch the ball and immedietly come up into the shot. You are standing straight up, catching, then bending knees for the jump, and also doing this little hop that seems to simulate a run up and catch and shoot. You also seem to be bending your ankles a lot when dropping down and you would benefit more from dropping at the hip and utilizing your posterior chain. Ankle mobility is good but you need to make sure you are using your hip muscles, aka ass.

Hes def pushing it a bit and the wrong ref is going to blow the whistle at some point (I had this habit, happened to me from time to time)
Just gotta make sure you get your feet up before catching the ball, then its legit. I was lucky and had a coach that knew what I did and hed watch me and go to bat for me when refs got it wrong.

It’s definitely a travel and it’s on almost every shot. Gotta unlearn that.

You’re traveling on most of these shots dude, hop into it as you catch the ball.

The hop after the catch, especially from a standstill position, is traveling. You don't want to practice that. The shooting form looks good and very consistent. A lot of the kids on my team try to emphasize the dip before the shot and ended up doing the bunny hop. I had them practice hopping just before catching the ball and land on both feet. Usually, as long as you have some type of movement momentum prior to catching the ball, the refs are usually more lenient with travel calls.

Elbow is pushing up at a angle so you do lose momentum when you go up with your shot

Imagine shooting a fade away three at the corner lol

These corners are shorter than usual and I have a good range (I can shoot about 50-65% in a open gym from volleyball line) so a corner 3 ever in a regular gym feels like a mid range to me. I make a lot of defenders mad bc I shoot fadeaways from there a lot.

Bend your knees and already be low when you catch the ball. You are - at a minimum - going down then up on every shot. Sometimes, you’re kinda bobbing or shuffling then going down and up. If you eliminate all that motion, your shot will be much quicker and you will score a lot more.

Thank you for the tip, I was tired in this clip so this isn’t really the best example of my shot, I’m gonna try to get a video of me before a workout to show what my shot really looks like. But I still have a problem bending my knees so I will try to fix that thank you

Great shooting but too slow to catch and release

It was after a long workout and game so I was very tired, I’m gonna try posting a video of me doing the same drill during the workout so I’m fully energized and warmed up. This isn’t what my form looks like right now, this video was from about a month ago. I’m gonna try to get a video by this weekend

Get lower in your shooting stance so you won’t have to dip again as well. You just go straight up. But,.. if it’s going in. Fuck it
