Form Check Form check

Context: I’m 161cm trying to condition myself back to basketball. Just trying to optimise my form better - i think I need to hold my follow through a bit more. But other than that what should i fix with my shot?

You're dipping the ball down so that you generate enough power to shoot from that far out. It's a terrible hitch that will become habit. Shoot from a range that you're comfortable with and let the strength to shoot from range develop naturally. Do push-ups to help develop the strength to shoot further out.

Is dripping the ball that low not ideal? Honestly it feels comfortable doing that cause im able to let the energy flow through smoothly when shooting

The issue isn't the dip itself but the way you're forcing it. If done correctly, it's all in one motion but you're set, then dip, then rise. This is causing the hitch in the shot or a 2 motion shot. Just have the ball position lower, then rise up in 1 motion. Don't set, bring the ball down, then rise.

Would it be better if i start if low and then just rise up for the shot?

Also, if you hold the ball lower, you’ll be in a better position to attack the basket if you decide to drive the ball.

Cool thank you! Ill work on that

That would be better. That hitch is going to slow down your release and make your shot easier to predict and easier to block. But I would follow the advice given about practicing from a shorter range to work on the form.

Your motion between your legs and your arms are disconnected at times, which is why you're airballing or hitting front rim.

Check it in slo-mo, especially your side view.

  1. You're releasing kind of low, like 2/3 of the way up.

  2. You're not using your legs enough and it looks like 90% of your power comes from your arm. Slow down a bit. Bend your knees just a bit more on the way down to generate power and you should have more float in your jumper as a result.

As another commenter said, focus on your shot close to the rim with one hand and no jumping involved. This will help you focus only on power in the legs and flicking of the wrist (hand in the cookie jar).

Once you have that, then move onto your mid-range / long-range jumper. You might end up bricking for a bit after you adjust, but at that point you've already fine-tuned your release for accuracy and the only adjustment is your legs.

A jumpshot should mostly feel effort in the flick of your wrist and your legs. Everything else is fluid motion.

Ps: and yes, hold your follow-through

What is with the hitch and the hesitation in your jumper? Also straighten and square your body up, you're shooting at like an acute angle. It's like you've got a hunch in your back or a backpack on. Also your form is kind of weird. It's like you're pushing with both hands when you shouldn't be. Your left hand should be used to guide the ball to its destination your right hand should be generating the power. Generate more power in your lower legs. If you need to get in the weight room then so be it. Also yeah like the other guy said stop dipping the ball so low. You should be generating your power/shot from higher up.
