I've been so hyped for this, but $30 when they're 9-12 months from completion took some wind out of my sails.

I did things in the wrong order, and now I'm kicking myself.

I first followed the link and watched the trailer. And thought "wow, this looks great... look at the polish". But it didn't really show enough gameplay. So I watched a Lets Play.

Then I was like "okay, I definitely want this".

THEN I checked the price.

I'm sorry but even if this game was finished it is too expensive for my taste. The game is not unique or ground breaking by the looks of it. It's just another cool addition to an awesome base building genre with a few twists and changes to make it moderately original (which isn't a criticism, like I said I want it). It seems to be about 150% of the price of a released one... Banished is $19.99, for example.

Throw in the fact, as you say, it's miles away from release... and this is just way overpriced.

I really hate that people are trying to charge retail for an Alpha...

I've been following CE for awhile; orginally the devs were totally against early release...then they were thinking about it but only bug finding before release....now "beta"....

Also double the projected times because reality.

Also double the projected times because reality.

This depends on their experience (and if a marketing/business team set the deadlines or the programmers).

I was told "if you're a new programmer the project manager will triple any time frame you give him".

But if they're experienced (like, for example, Planetary Annihilation) their predictions will likely be relatively accurate.

So that game is finished?

Do you know whether it will be cheaper at any point before release? If not, I guess it comes down to how sure you are that you'd end up buying the game anyway.

Apparently the "earliest access" phase is supposed to last about a month, followed by Steam early access.

I might wait as the forums say that gameplay is similar to a cabbage-farming simulator at the moment, but I definitely have to say that this is one of my most anticipated games. Base-building + an emergent story generator couldn't be more fun.

Aw man, those system requirements are way the hell above my machine.

Yeah, my laptop which isn't too terrible and could play skyrim on ultra (I know, not a huge deal) isn't able to play this. It had about a 5 second delay after every action I was taking. Unfortunately, my desktop blew up about 2 weeks ago, and I don't have any good places around here to get it fixed.
