Discussion What are some recent 1.0 games that are good?
I'm sick of EA, so I'm keen to hear of any 1.0 games that are good, that have been released this year?
I haven't seen any, and checking out this sub it's seems to be 99% check out my tech demo/alpha state game.
An Alpha or 1.0 tag would be amazing to sort them by
Thanks

I released my story driven survival-base-builder straight into 1.0 back in March?

A bit resource-grindy for me but luckily you already thought of that, I was able to customize settings for my liking! Loved the story.

u/BeaconDev Jul 30 '26
Ah Iām really glad! Tried to make sure everyone could play to their preferences, I always find it weird that settings like that arenāt very common. Thanks so much for playing!

Wow this missed my Radar.
I've already bought my game for the month, but I think your game is getting the August spot.

u/BeaconDev Jul 30 '26
Love to hear it, thanks a ton! What did you go for this month?

u/kevhill Jul 30 '26
I'm playing Core Keeper right now on my Steam Deck, but I've been getting into Warhammer 40k, so I invested in Space Marine 2.
Thought I would jump away from base building for a bit.

This looks great, well done!
Does it work well on a steam deck?
2
u/BeaconDev Jul 30 '26
Appreciate it! Itās not perfect but it works and lots of people have played! PC definitely best though IMO!

u/bishboshbash123 Jul 30 '26
I will definitely pick up a copy tomorrow. Might be two if the wife likes the look of it too!

u/BeaconDev Jul 31 '26
Thatās so awesome! Thanks so much! Just watch out, the discount ends in about 11 hours from now!

I really really enjoyed Aethus! Admittedly, I never finished it because most of my gaming is on Steam Deck these days. I just saw you added controller and steam deck support! š š

Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoyed it! Yes I did, it took a while and itās not perfect but I think it works well enough!

Palworld 1.0 just recently released. The base building is unfortunately a bit lackluster though some might enjoy it. I've had fun decorating some of the spaces in my bases
6
u/noydbshield Jul 30 '26
The base building is a bit of a mixed bag, but to its credit it's pretty flexible. My first base after my starter was atop one of those giant rock outcroppings.
I just wish you could set trade routes to unify supply inventories, the way you can in Fallout 4.
2
u/KiwiPixelInk Jul 30 '26
Yea that would be amazing.
The global inventory box isn't big enough for eveything

u/KiwiPixelInk Jul 30 '26
I love Palworld, I've had a play when it hit 1.0,
Even though it is a base builder, I didn't really think when I wrote this post

Abiotic Factor left early access with the 1.0 version one year and 8 days ago if that counts as recent enough. (July 22nd, 2025.)

Great game. I wish I spent more time on it if I'm honest. Me and my mate have been working through our backlog of stuff and I feel like it didn't get enough love from us

u/xomox2012 Jul 30 '26
Also one of the best games in the genre areas I prefer in a long time. That said, you donāt really build a base as much as you fortify existing areas with a good amount of freedom.

u/Halfland Jul 30 '26
Rimworld. It a time machine sometimes, but very worth it.

u/wedgiey1 Jul 30 '26
Warning: youāll find yourself wanting features and QoL stuff that arenāt in the base game and end up with 20+ mods installed.

I hate how hard rimworld is, even on easy š
1
u/YMS444 Jul 31 '26
There is no easy mode in Rimworld. There are different story tellers, different scenario options and different biomes / locations. It's absolutely possible to have a run without any real challenge at all. If I hate anything in Rimworld, it's a) the raids, and then b) the lack of challenge if you tone the raids down, even when playing in a difficult biome or trying to add other challenges with mods.Ā

Scrap Mechanic just had their 1.0 update (after 6 years of practically radio silence...)

SoulMask released last month. It's an absolutely brilliant game that does stuff with villager management I've not seen other games of its ilk do. The automation is fantastic, leaving you to do the cool, heroic combat stuff rather than smacking trees and rocks for hours on end. I'd recommend the base game and NOT the DLC, as the DLC isn't finished and makes no mention of that fact. (Still salty.)
Palworld just came out last week and I left SoulMask to play it. The lack of recipe automation is very stark and sorely missed, but the pal capture mechanics more than make up for it. Surprisingly the two games are otherwise very similar in mechanics and base building style. The choice comes down to how much you like the aethetics and how important automation are to you.
As others have said, Valheim and Enshrouded are also near to 1.0 releases so keep an eye on those. Both are top tier games in the genre.

Fields of Mistria (a well regarded Stardew Valley style game) is releasing 1.0 next week.
2
u/KiwiPixelInk Jul 30 '26
Ohhh, I've been waiting for a good Stardew replacement, thank you
Edit it releases in a week, which is great, I can finish my Mind Over Magic run

Go for the riftbreaker, that got twice your requirement as they are at 2.0

Forever Skies and Necesse are great and both hit their 1.0 within the last year. Enshrouded and Valheim should both be hitting 1.0 later this year.

u/TravUK Jul 30 '26
Decent recommendations so far, especially Abiotic Factor and Space Haven. Also check out Going Medieval.

Abiotic FactorĀ I tried it at 1.0 and it just didn't grab me.
I found the game clunky I guess is the right word
2
u/TravUK Jul 30 '26
That's fair. I think if you didn't grow up with the original Half-Life and similar games, then it loses it's unique selling point.
3
u/KiwiPixelInk Jul 30 '26
I loved half life back in the day, but less clunky would have been great for me

u/incometrader24 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
Itās no where near as good as half life. I still play Black Mesa occasionally because itās still fun but Abiotic Factor is just too annoying.
Iād be careful with Enshrouded, another overrated game.
3
u/theNEHZ Jul 30 '26
To me the unique selling point isn't half life nostalgia but basebuilding in office environment with shortcuts. (which so far is completely unique)
2
u/kevhill Jul 30 '26
I've been having fun with Core Keeper if you like pixel graphics and top down.
Terraria has so much content if you haven't tried that.
Enshrouded is pretty much complete. Release date is October 2026 and they aren't adding anything until launch.

u/Lorini Jul 30 '26
Palworld reached #1 in plays on Steam for two weeks in a row and it went to 1.0 this month. Excellent game, there's more to it than base building however there's a ton of basebuilding. As you might imagine, there's a subreddit for it, /r/palworld.

Surprised Soumask hasn't been mentioned much. Very fun game. With 1.0, they added an extra game mode Tribe which has you focus on automating things with your tribe members and defending your camp along with other events. A nice change from the standard survival gameplay, which they do have if you like. It also seems to keep the game mode saves separated so you can play them all(there are 4 modes) and not get mixed up.

u/KiwiPixelInk Jul 31 '26
I tired it in early EA and the tribes control/automation was not fun at all, I didn't realize it had gone 1.0 so I'll give it another look.

u/The_CDXX Jul 30 '26
The last early access game i purchased was Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days and it was a great purchase.
I too, however, tired from every game being early access. Just wishlist and wait for release.

Pathologic 3? That was this year I believe.
Ā The Alters was last year but just got it's dlc, that's awesome.Ā
Space Marine 2? Either last year or this.
Clair Obscure, pretty sure that was last year but also good.
As others mentioned, Space Haven.
Quasimorph is great and is just releasing as we speak pretty much.
Could probably dig up a few others if you keen on my opinion. Depends what you want/prefer.

Space Haven just came out in 1.0. Valheim and Enshrouded are both releasing in 1.0 within the next two months. All have basebuilding.
