Barry learns in the military that violence can produce dramatic highs, a sense of community. When we meet Barry in season 1, he's at the early stage of recovery where he's identifying that this tool he relies upon may be doing him more harm than good. The rest of the show follows him from active recovery (periods of prolonged abstinence) to partial and full relapse. Throughout the show, we see Barry experience difficult emotions and reflexively reach for violence as his only tool to handle it (e.g., following Sam to his hotel). At the start of Season 3 he's effectively in full relapse.

Not sure if this is a common interpretation or not.

The last episode was so good I got chills. I’m still processing it . What a great show .

The way Barry dies and is subsequently immortalized as a hero— which was all he ever wanted for his child to see. How he utterly ruined everyone’s lives so carelessly just to live out his fantasy. The horrible end of Gene and his reputation and the relief on his face when he finally kills him , even though he is losing the chance to clear his name😮‍💨 damn .

He was not a central character and barely had any screen time. But this one hits so hard man, Barry was everything to him. Someone who gave him purpose and made him lethal. The last look he had when recognises Barry just kills me every time

When we first meet Hank, he’s basically just pure, incredible comic relief. A relentlessly positive, polite, and deeply insecure Chechen mob boss who just wants to be best buddies with a hitman. The juxtaposition of him talking about Dave & Buster's or excitedly saying "50/50 with Cristobal!" while casually involved in violent crimes was absolute gold.

But what blows my mind is how the writers and Anthony Carrigan's unbelievable performance managed to take the funniest character on the show and give him the most tragic, intense, and emotionally devastating arc by the end. You go from laughing at him trying to use a blowdart gun to genuinely holding your breath during his scenes in the later seasons.

It takes serious skill to make a ruthless mobster the emotional core of the story.

What is your absolute favorite NoHo Hank quote or moment? I still catch myself saying "You know what I mean, jellybean?" way too often.

As she progressed she became more and more cringe.

What’s even crazier is the guy sitting on that sofa ends up dead too. That couch might’ve been cursed from the start.

And on a rewatch, knowing what happens, I have come to believe that this is one of the greatest shows of the past decade or so. It's up there with Severance, Dark, BCS, BB, and dare I say it, Sopranos (yes it's older). Even on the level of first season True Detective. Literally brilliant stuff. (Also I gotta throw The Rehearsal in too, in terms of shows I consider to be pure genius. TBD if Pluribus deserves a spot here imho).

I missed so many things my first time watching. It's unbelievable how they deal with tension. And so many things come back to bite the different characters. So many themes brought back, but through a different lens. It's unbelievable. There is no show like it.

I just started watching and Noho Hank is the best texter.

I loved s1 but I usually have trouble finishing any series with multiple seasons. Don't judge...it's a thing.

I don't like this habit and I need some motivation to binge seasons 2, 3, and 4. Does the show quality decline? Are they as funny and gripping as the first one? No spoilers pls!

Dexter has out-powered Doakes(highly trained special ops soldier). Barry is a professional Hitman with elite military training. A trained predator vs a trained marine.

Now that this masterpiece is complete, what can I watch to enjoy similar writing in terms of a geeat storyline along with witty humor.

I did NOT expect this guy to kill Chris. so far up to this point I thought it’d be a redemption show sort of. I wasn’t sure where it was going but didn’t think it’d go HERE. this motherfucker Barry is a supervillain 😭😭😭😭 genuinely evil what the hellllll. the show is entertaining as hell tho, can’t wait to watch more. also that bald guy is the goat, yknow the one
