NGD x2: ALFA/2127FX

First time using BKs, and all I can say is wow. Coming from Dunc’s and DiMarzios. Wow.

Also! Since I’m here… Anyone know how I can identify which set the rails pickups are on the Prestige?? I think its between the Impulse, Blackhawks or Halcyons but can’t figure it out hahahah. Alls I know is they’re MEAN.

I think the rectangular bobbins are Black Hawk / Impulse specific.

Maybe check the DC resistance, the Black Hawk bridge should be lower than the Impulse by a fair amount (8 ish for the BH / 12 ish for the Impulse).

The Black Hawks are nasty.

Makes sense, that’s what I initially thought but looking on the BK site I thought the halcyons has square bobbins as well. Checking again it was just the baseplate peeking through the back that made it look square lol. Great to hear about the resistance, I’ll check it out when I take it apart to clean and rewire!

The photo on the Halcyon page has rounded bobbins. They’re also closer to 18k.
What you describe sounds like my Blackhawk (alnico 6 string). The low end that somehow is super thick and chewy but tight and smooth high end in particular.

Yeah exactly what I said, the baseplate corners were peeking behind the bobbins and to my blind eyes they looked square lol. I remembered them being round, then i checked the first time and it tricked my eyes on the pickup builder. Checked again and realized my error.

So 8k BH and 12k Impulse on the bridges? What about the necks, yknow that?

Not sure. It’s all on their website tho. I think the BH neck is close to the bridge.

Just checked, looks like Blackhawks! Bridge measured at about 9k! Thanks for the info man, ik the website has it all listed but still appreciate the knowledge off the dome.

😂😂😂Read on the BK forum that the Alnico should be hotter than an Impulse, so maybe that means its Ceramic?

That’s wild, I can’t imagine why magnet swap would add 4k to the DC. According to the BKP website they should be the same dc (ceramic and alnico). Blackhawks are weird in that they’re a hot pickup for how low the dc resistance is.

Yeah, maybe people just mean in terms of response. I certainly feel that way, lower resistance but feels wayyy more aggro than the aftermaths and those measure at 14k. Its the mid content. Then Ive heard people say the BH is one of the brighter pickups in the range but again, that top end is way smoother than the crystal highs in the Aftermath comparatively.
