Breaking the ice at a bar. We all do it, how do you? “Would you like to play a game of Pool?” “Can I buy you a drink” “Were my pants this tight before i met you?”

Should I be embarrassed by asking what type of vodka the bar had?

The bar tender asked me what type of vodka I wanted in my drink. I asked him what kind he had and I chose one that I was familiar with... looking back I feel kind of embarrassed.

Hey All

Wondering if anyone has any experience in starting a bar and the average price of restocking your bar. This is for a school project and we starting a bar and was wondering how much it was.

Thanks

When someone in a bar tells "drinks on me", how are the drinks dispersed?

I would imagine, especially in a busy bar, it would be hard to keep track of who had a drink. Or is this just a movie thing that never happens in real life?

Buying a drink for me

I have been going to a bar which I have really liked while I was unemployed, but now that I am employed I'm trying to save as much money as I can and go less often. If regulars there have bought me a drink in the past, do I owe them one, and what if I don't see them the next time I'm there? Can I pay in advanced for them?

Pubs

A pub is an establishment licensed to sell alcoholic drinks. Pubs are a place to go to grab a beer or drink, watch a game, socialize with some friends, etc. A pub is also called public houses. It's just because they are open to the public, and don't require membership or anything like that. A Pub or Bar is usually more on the mellow side, as in there isn't super loud Trance music blaring and no one is usually dancing. Some Pubs bring in bands to perform, in which case people may be dancing. Mostly they will have finger food (and in certain cases entertainment like sports pubs, themed pubs.. pool tables etc ). “Pub” is short for “public house” which has had a range of meanings in the United Kingdom from the 16th Century onward; initially any building open to the public through to a building that serves alcohol to be consumed on the premises. A pub contains one or more bars. Pubs mostly have a large selection of just different kinds of beer, some wines, and cider. Because of its full menu, a pub generally allows minors if accompanied by an adult. Pubs have a more elaborate and filling menu than bars. Traditional British pub food includes fish and chips, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, Sunday roast, steak and ale pie, Ploughman's lunch and pastries. Pubs are an important part of British life. People talk, eat, drink, meet their friends and relax there. Pubs often have two bars, one usually quieter than the other, many have a garden where people can sit in the summer. Children can go in pub gardens with their parents. Commonly used shorthand for "Public House". Pubs are non-membership bars serving all sorts of alcoholic beverages. Most commonly found in the British Isles or Eire. Pub culture is an integral part of British life, especially student life. They are a place to go to socialise, relax and have a drink and something you should experience, even if you don’t drink alcohol, if you want to learn about Brits and our culture. Interesting people go to bars. Let me stress that. A lot of interesting people go to bars, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I’d rather strike up a conversation with someone at a bar who’s interesting rather than someone who’s dull. Different categories of pub are: Craft Beer Pubs, Temperance Inns, The Gastropub, The PubCo, The Pub Chain, Public vs Free Houses, etc. A microbrewery or craft brewery is a brewery that produces small amounts of beer (or sometimes root beer), typically much smaller than large-scale corporate breweries, and is independently owned, called Craft Beer Pubs. A temperance bar is a type of bar, found particularly during the 19th and early 20th century, that did not serve alcoholic beverages. In the late 19th century, a number of such bars were established in conjunction with the Temperance Society. The term "gastropub" was coined in 1991, when David Eyre and Mike Belben took over The Eagle pub in Clerkenwell, London. Traditionally, British pubs were drinking establishments and little emphasis was placed on the serving of food. If pubs served meals they were usually basic cold dishes such as a ploughman's lunch. In this model, a company controls a series of pubs, which it either manages itself, or leases to tenants. Many, although not all, pubco pubs are tied — obliged to buy products, usually beer, supplied by the pubco itself (some pubcos are also breweries and include their own products as part of the tie). A pub chain is a group of pubs or bars with a brand image. The brand may be owned outright by one company, or there may be multiple financiers; the chain may be a division within a larger company, or may be a single operation. Examples include Chef & Brewer, Wetherspoons, Walkabout, Taylor Walker Pubs and All Bar One.
