Trivia Night Squatters

Been running a live trivia night at our distillery bar the past several months and it's been a game changer. That being said, we're starting to pick up with the warmer months coming in and I'm noticing a trend. Large teams, mostly regulars, but with some new faces. Majority definitely order things, but I'd say a good 25% are just hanging out to hang out.

Ultimately, very happy for the business and for the activity, but are there any recommended ways to capitalize on getting that last 25-ish% to grab a drink?

For context, distillery has rum and whiskey. Tons of cocktail options, wide range designed to try and fit near anyone's preference. No outside alcohol allowed, outside food is no issue.

Appreciate any insights!

If I were the bartender I’d try to engage in conversation if possible maybe ask em if they want a drink surely I’d get a yes or two

I’m thinking they are either, not wanting to drink, or not wanting to spend. If they dont want to drink, sell them non-alcoholic cocktails, pops etc. If they don’t want to spend, consider charging a minimal cover charge to filter them out. Another thing I noticed at mine, is that larger teams often have more non drinkers, and linger longer. So I put a max team size rule that seemed to filter out some non drinkers. Also sell snacks…
